Fast Writing...Chart Action...Fun Duet

BILL BLOG

Friday January 3, 2025

Friday morning and here comes the first weekend of the New Year. 42 for the high today but the forecast is showing we might get some rain and snow on Sunday. Nobody round here need that.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Thomm Jutz out at his house studio east of Nashville. Good stuff always seems to happen when I write with him. And yesterday was no exception. I brought a start to a song he liked, and we were finished in an hour I’d say and then recorded the song. Tom is such a tasty guitarist and he always makes anything I have mucho better.

And Thomm and I share the fact that we are both fast writers. As I packed up my guitar and walked out of the studio he joking said, “the only problem writing with you is that it takes SOOOO long.”

 Good day of rhyming.

CHART

Glad to see our song “God Never Made A Mountain” by Kristy Cox, written with Andrea Pearson and Josh Shilling is still hanging in some charts like this RadioMusicDJ.com chart. Thank you to the folks who make up this chart for showing this song of inspiration some love and giving it some spins.

NEW SHOW

My friend Jim Parker from Huntsville called yesterday to book our “Hits & Grins” trio for a return performance for his wonderful Jim Parker Songwriter Series that he’s hosted at the Von Braun Playhouse Theater for many years. It’s truly one of the best songwriters series in the entire country. So myself, Victoria Venier and Steve Dean are happy to announce we will be there on November 7 of this year…a Friday night. There’s a GREAT buffet dinner before each show as well.

I think this might be my 5th time or so for playing the series with different folks. The last time I was there the filmed this version of me singing “Face For Radio.  Looking forward to going back and singing it again.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing “She Always Danced Alone” written with Australian artist Alan Mackey…a fairly noted country music artist down under. Another Aussie friend set this writing session up. That would be Angus Gill who produced the song and the album that it went on. It’s got a great Spanish flavor to this Mexican story of love and heartbreak…and it’s one of my favorite arrangement for any song of mine. Check it out.

 SONG TEASE

Here’s fun “tease” of a new duet I wrote with these two young country stars Alex Miller & Emily Ann Roberts that will be released later this month. “Little More Country Than You” that Alex posted on his Facebook page yesterday. This is a really fun song with the two of them arguing over which of them is more country.

HEALTH NOTES

Plenty of folks sick right now…flu…COVID…colds, RSV…you name it. An alternative health care expert suggests taking the Flu Bomb…a mixture of 7 ingredients designed to bring you back to healthy when you’re dealing with any of that stuff.

1 clove garlic, crushed

¼ teaspoon ginger, grated

1 drop eucalyptus oil or tree oil

Cayenne pepper

Juice of a lemon

1 teaspoon honey

½ cup of hot water

Walmart has recalled broccoli in 20 states over life threatening listeria concerns.

A Women’s Health article claims that eating large meals later in the day could raise your risk of diabetes.

HERE’S YOUR CHURCH SIGN

DON’T EAVESDROP

Apple will have to pay 95 million dollars after a lawsuit claims that Siri has been eavesdropping on our conversations. Be careful what you say around your iPhone.

Although…I have to confess that when Siri listened to my conversations…I heard her snoring.

YOUR DOOR

A real estate expert says the best color for the front door on your home to make it inviting and easier to sell is the color blue. Who knew?

Pink and Green?  Not so much.

I’ve colored my front door “camo” so salesmen and Jehovah Witnesses can’t find it.

NUGGETS

MSN just rated the Top 6 Fast Food Chicken Nuggets. #1 might be a surprise.

6…Burger King

5…Wendy’s

4…KFC

3…McDonald’s

2…Chik fil A (my favorite…but…)

1…Taco Bell Chicken Nuggets (I’ve not tried those yet)

THINGS A MAN SHOULD NOT KNOW

A fun article included these things.

How many likes he gets on anything…ever.

What Roseanne Barr has to say about anything.

His teenage son’s girlfriend’s opinion on the Middle East.

You can probably think of some other things on your own. And it was those kinds of things that Brent Burns and I were thinking about when we wrote the song “Man Card” that Brent recorded. Check out this funny "live" performance of the song at Lulu's in Gulf Shores.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Girl Who Lost Her Memory Falls In Love With The Same Boyfriend. (True love…twice)

TODAY

Not much of anything important today. A little catching up on stuff before a lazy weekend ahead. And I’m getting better and better at being lazy these days.

It gets a little busier for the rest of January as these shows are coming up.

Jan 11…Private House Concert with Lauren Mascitti and Wil Nance in Nashville.

Jan 18…Kill Devils Hill, North Carolina with Linda Davis and Lang Scott.

Jan 19…North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with Linda Davis, Lang Scott and Darin & Brooke Aldridge.

Jan 28…The Bluebird Café in Nashville with Steve Dean, Victoria Venier and Brent Burns.

So…yea…feet up this weekend.

Have a great weekend!

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
