Snow...Elfs To Hide...Rockin' Round The Christmas Tree

BILL BLOG

Tuesday December 3, 2024

Tuesday morning and I’m waking up with a dusting of SNOW on the back deck. Geez. And we have school closings and delays in Nashville today. It just takes a dusting here for that to happen. Just 33 for the high today and down to a chilly 22 tonight.

YESTERDAY

It was a nothing big kind of Monday which gave me a little time to catch up on things, and so some online Christmas shopping. Didn’t buy anything…but it’s a start. Again, if anyone has any idea what to get for my hard to buy for wife? Please send a note and have Santa drop it down the chimney for me.

SONG OF THE DAY

Speaking of Christmas. Today I’m choosing this great bluegrass Christmas song that Terry Baucom and the Dukes of Drive recorded and released last year “Christmas At The Old Homeplace” that I wrote with my east coast friend Rick Lang. Rick had the idea, we wrote it together online one morning, and he sent it to the group. So thank you Rick Lang for that.

Terry Baucom has long been one of the best five-string banjo players in the world. And I say has been as we lost him last year. My condolences’ this Christmas season to his wife Cindy who is the lead singer here on our Christmas song.

HEALTH NOTES

Alcohol deaths have more than doubled in recent years, especially among women.

After a 2-year investigation a report claims that COVID social distancing is not based on science.

The EPA released a statement saying that formaldehyde increases your cancer risk no matter where you live.

HERE’S YOUR QUOTE

I’m smiling right now.

ELF ON A SHELF HIDING PLACES

For those who hide the ole elf every year it becomes a challenge to find creative places to hide him. Try this.

 Or...maybe this.

And it you have a clog...

BEST USE OF CARDBOARD EVER

MORE CHRISTMAS STUFF

Someone REALLY loves Taylor Swift. Enough so that they did an all Taylor-Christmas thing with their house.

Uh huh.

And before I throw Christmas cookies at that idea…I have to admit…I kind of liked it when a homeowner in Florida liked a song that Brent Burns and I wrote for his Christmas album many years ago to sync up with his Christmas lights on the house. Check out “Santa’s Gone NASCAR” blaring while the lights blink.

JOKE OF THE DAY

Working at the unemployment office has to be a tense job. If you get fired, you still have to come in the next day.

MEGA

The Mega-Millions jackpot is over 500 million dollars now. So once again the odds have gotten so long that I’ll be buying a ticket.

What’s that old lottery joke?  Oh yea.

What is the difference between a man buying a lottery ticket and a man arguing with his wife?

Answer: The man buying the lottery ticket actually has a chance to win.

ROCKIN’ ROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE

That iconic Christmas song was recorded by Brenda Lee back in 1958. She was only 13 years old at the time. Yesterday at the state capitol here in Nashville it was named the State Christmas Song. And Miss Brenda was visibly moved by the presentation.

Good for her. David Powelson played guitar in one of my early bands back in Missouri “The Shortline Express”. David went on to play for Crystal Gayle, Barbara Mandrell and yes…Brenda Lee. I saw him play in a couple of her Christmas shows…and even went backstage once in Milwaukee and ate with the band and crew and Brenda. Everyone who’s been around her says the nicest things about her…me too. Congrats to her.

SO…

Is it fair to say that President Biden pardoned TWO turkeys this year?  Hey…don’t throw things! I’m just asking here.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

24-year old woman swept out to sea while doing yoga. (careful where you roll out your yoga mat)

TODAY

I have a rare double-header day of songwriting today starting this morning with Alex Miller and Wil Nance. First time the three of us will sit down together.

And then this evening I’m online writing with my North Carolina friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge. So the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend is truly over.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...
