Here comes another Hump Day. 59 and sunny in Nashville today but it’s getting ready to get a lot cooler over the next few days.
YESTERDAY
I wrote with my buddy Troy Engle yesterday up in Pennsylvania…a great bluegrass player, singer, and writer. Troy is from a hometown about the size of mine back in Missouri. 1100 or so folks maybe. One stoplight. And yesterday’s song was all about some of those old hometown memories, and especially the memories of those small town stores. The IGA, the Dairy Queen, the one screen cinema, the little diner that are mostly gone these days.
So the song turned to be titled “Hometown Memories”.
Some of the lines were true life for me.
“That Western Auto store where Daddy bought me my first baseball glove”…true real stuff.
I think we are both please with the way the song turned out.
GREAT NEWS
The Kristy Cox album “Let It Burn” is nominated for two big Golden Guitar Awards in Australia which is the equivalent of a CMA Award. I’m more than a little pleased with that news because I have 3 songs on this project nominate for “Best Traditional Album of the Year” and “Best Overall Album of the Year”.
Those three songs are:
Some Things Don’t Go Together written with Lisa Shaffer & Wil Nance.
God Never Made A Mountain written with Josh Shilling & Andrea Pearson.
How Lucky Am I written with Jimmy Fortune & Sydni
Perry that features Jimmy Fortune singing on it. Kristy has said she thinks it's the best song on the album. The song was inspire by the passing of my longtime manager and second Mom Dean Raymer so it has special meaning.
Congrats to my friends Kristy Cox and producer Jerry Salley and Billy Blue Records who Kristy records for and who I write for.
SONG OF THE DAY
So glad to be able to share this song “Where You Choose To Go” from Mark Houser
that was released on Mark’s new album out today “Gospel Train.” This is an idea
Mark brought into the writing room last year that I loved and it just turned
out great. Word is that it might be a single release somewhere down the line
which would be even more good news. But check out the song we wrote at the link
above.
HEALTH NOTES
Bird flu continues to surge in several states now with reports of new outbreaks and health officials claiming it’s getting worse.
A new study says that being aerobically fit in middle age can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
An expert claims that chronic pain is straining the health care system.
POSTER
Ain’t that the truth?
MOVING OUT
The little village Ollolai on the island of Sardinia needs more people to live there. So…they’re offering up one dollar houses for any American who was upset with the Trump win if they move there.
So they might wind up renaming it “Celebrity Island” then…I’m guessing.
FIGHT AT THE NET
It had to happen. Some guy gets upset in a pickleball game and kicks his opponent in the face. Pickle-Brawl should now be the name of the sport. Look for Jake Paul to buy a racket and challenge Mike Tyson again.
FLYING WITH A BURGER
Delta is now going to offer up a Shake Shack burger to those that fly on Delta. Catch is…you have to fly first class to get one. I love a good burger…but I can’t imagine buying a first class ticket just to get one. Nope. I stick with the free rubber chicken offering.
SPEAKING OF FLYING
41% of those who fly would love to ban reclining seats on planes. Count me as one of those. Planes are full and CRAMPED…and then some guy leans his seat back and takes up even more of your small space. Geez.
I can’t wait until Lazy Boy buys an airline.
CHRISTMAS
It’s sneaking up. Our tree is in the stand…we’ve yet to decorate it. Right after Turkey Day we’ll get to it. Now…we don’t put up any outside Christmas decorations like a lot of folks do. In fact, if you ever drive by the Whyte House and see a Christmas decoration on the lawn…it would be this.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
China May Be Using Sea To Hide It’s Submarines. (And I would have sworn they were hiding them in the ball pit at Chuck E Cheese)
TODAY
I’m writing with the very talented Andrea Pearson, an on demand studio singer
here in town, for the first time in a while. For good reason. Andrea just had
her second little girl! So we’ll talk about that some and celebrate the fact
that the song we wrote “God Never Made A Mountain” is on that album from Kristy
Cox I mentioned above that’s nominated for a Golden Guitar Award in Australia.
Looking forward to rhyming with Andrea today.
TONIGHT
The CMA Awards show are on hosted by Peyton Manning, Luke Bryan and Lainey Wilson on ABC. The nominees for Entertainer of the Year are Luke Combs, Jellyroll, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson.
I’ll be posting my thoughts as I’ve done for several years on my Facebook and Twitter accounts if you’d like to follow along tonight for some of that commentary.
Have a great Wednesday.
