Gulf Shores Festival...Redneck Bottle Opener...New Seals & Crofts2 Single

BILL BLOG

Friday November 8, 2024

And a good Friday morning from beautiful Gulf Shores, Alabama home of the 40th Annual Frank Brown Songwriters Festival.

YESTERDAY

Songwriters Bill DiLugi and Steve Dean jumped in a car with me and we made the 7 hour or so trip down to Gulf Shores for the songwriters festival. By the time we checked into our condo the sun had gone down, but this morning even with clouds you can see we have a beautiful view.

And we’ll be able to soak in the ocean views until Tuesday morning of next week when we return home.

So we unloaded our stuff in the condo and then went to dinner at one of my favorite places down here.

My brother Gary years ago had me try the whitefish basket instead of the shrimp basket that I would normally order…so I owe him a favor. Delish.

REDNECK BEER GUYS

After that it was a run to the grocery store and Steve and I grabbed a couple of six packs of beer to celebrate arriving last night. Then we found out we had a major CRISIS on our hand. The beer we bought did not have twist off caps. And the condo unit had no church key or bottle opener. What to do!?

And once again we found out there’s nothing you can’t fix from a You Tube video.

Yep…we popped it with a tablespoon. And all the world was right. An appropriate technique considering we’re hanging out for a few days on the Redneck Riviera.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’m excited to share this new single “Running To The Sun” that was released today from Seals & Crofts 2…Brady Seals and Lua Crofts…kin to the originals. I’ve loved this song ever since I wrote with Brady several years ago…and these two just slayed the song. So glad folks are going to get to hear this. Click the link and listen to our song with the lyrics scrolling about running away to the sunshine in California.

HEALTH NOTES

Heart defects affect 40 thousand babies every year, but cutting edge stem cell and AI will save lives and even cure them in the womb according to researchers in Australia.

The US Food and Drug Administration has proposed to remove oral phenylephrine, widely used in cold and cough syrups, as an active ingredient in over-the-counter drugs for nasal congestion, stating it is not effective.

A wave of doctors are already using AI assistant to take notes during their Zoom calls with patients.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

My favorite destination.

MORE DRONING

Now there’s a company that will airborne a drone for you in exotic places like over Africa and the wildlife or fly over a volcano for example and YOU get to fly the drone on your computer. You take a 10 minute lesson on line, they airborne the drone, and you can control the direction and fly the danged thing.

How about fly over of the Grand Canyon?  Pretty cool technology.

NASHVILLE TO FLORIDA

Our airport BNA keeps getting bigger. And with that comes a new cheap airline Avelo.

Which means we can fly to Florida for as low as $49 one way. Cool. The bad news is the seats are on the wings…but hey…it’s cheap!

MAY THE FORCE

Good news for Star Wars fans. A new trilogy is being planned and developed. I’m not sure another film made my jaw drop more than the first Star Wars film I watched in a theater. I’ve got my light saber lit up and I’m ready to watch.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Arrest made in connection to British cheese heist of 48,000 pounds of cheddar. (My guess is the criminal was “bound up”…and carted off to jail.)

TODAY
I have two shows today at the songwriters festival.

5 pm at the Woodside Restaurant…outdoors…with my longtime friend Brent Burns.

And then an 8:15 show with songwriter Wil Nance at the Warrior Beer Company in Pensacola. Incidentally…big time congrats to Wil who is one of the writers on this great new Chris Janson single just released “Cheap”.

THE WEEKEND

Saturday I have a show at the Perdido Beach Resort at 7 pm with Steve Dean & Rhonda Hart. First time meeting and playing with Rhonda who plays a lot down here on the Gulf Coast.

And then Sunday a 7 pm show at the Main Listening Room at the world famous roadhouse that is the Flora-Bama with Steve Dean and Brent Burns.

Fun to be back at this great music festival.

Have a great weekend!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
