BILL BLOG
Friday October 11, 2024
We’re headed for the weekend. It do be Friday. And our high in Twang Town is only 70 today with sunshine. And…it’s getting darker earlier. Hate that!
MILTON
It certainly could be worse. Imagine if folks had gathered in the emergency location of the Tampa Bay Baseball stadium and had the ceiling come crashing down on them. Lord.
My brother and his wife live near Orlando. I was worried about them big time. They lost power, but it came back on without a really long delay and they escaped damage. Heck, he’s probably out playing golf right now.
I have a niece who hunkered down in the Tampa area. A tree fell in their yard, something hit their house hard and they had some frightful moments for sure. Their generator given to them as a gift from their Mom is up and running and they’ll be fine.
The
theme parks look to be opening back up today in Orlando and some beaches may be open.
These are always surprising pictures to me. Vehicles stranded in the flood. Did they not know it was coming?
Yes there are tragedies. As many as 17 Floridians may have died from hurricane Milton at this point. And there will always be storms this size with that much power coming in the future. But for right now at least, it feels like Florida could have been MUCH unluckier.
YESTERDAY
I wrote with my beach bum buddy Brent Burns for the first time in a while. Those are always sessions filled with laughs. We got online to write a title that came out of conversation just a couple of weeks ago when I saw Brent at our Freedom Sings USA event in Orange Beach at our veteran’s concert.
Somehow the words “naked and unafraid” came out one of our mouths and had my writing ears on and thought…maybe a song? And that’s what we wrote yesterday. And it’s not what you think! It’s about being brave enough to fight a battle when you have to and being fearless. It’s probably one that will land on Brent’s next project when he gets around to coming up here to Nashville to start recording.
More than happy with the way the song turned out.
SPEAKING OF BRENT
I’ll be playing at the “Meeting of the Minds” down in Gulf Shores coming up October 22-26. I’ll be presenting an award at the Trop Rock Awards Music show, and I’ll be playing a couple of times. Brent is working to see if we can’t do a show together on Tuesday evening October 22…so stay tuned. Those are always crazy fun shows.
SONG OF THE DAY
And here’s the song from my friend Kristen Leigh Bearfield “Country Faith" that’s available everywhere today that I wrote with Kristen and Bob Minner that also features gospel great Karen Peck.
Remember some of the proceeds will go towards hurricane relief from Helene that damaged west North Carolina where Kristen comes from. A LOT of devastation. I’m proud of her for doing that…and certainly proud of the song.
HEALTH NOTES
9.9 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat, and poultry have been recalled over listeria concerns.
Fewer than 1 in 5 large companies’ health plans cover weight loss drugs.
A new health study claims that COVID infection could increase your risk of deadly health problems.
NON-HEALTH NOTES
Uh…unhealthy. But you KNOW you want one of these!
LIT UP
The Northern Lights were everywhere last night…all across the country. This picture was taken here in Tennessee.
Did I see them? Ummm…the baseball playoffs were on and I had forgotten there was a possibility of seeing them. I did SEE the Yankees clinch and saw Cleveland force a game 5 against the Detroit Tigers. So there’s that.
THE FUTURE
Elon Musk rolled out this bad boy yesterday. A self-driving Robovan that seats 20. Coming to pick you and your friends up sometime in the not too distant future according to Mr. Musk.
STATE FUNNY
Readers Digest just listed the 50 funniest jokes about each state. Some are pretty funny. These are the jokes about the states I’ve lived in:
ILLINOIS
This is how Chicago got started. A bunch of people in New York said, “Gee, I’m enjoying the crime and the poverty, but it just isn’t cold enough.”
INDIANA
What is the difference between Indiana sports fans and puppies? Eventually the puppies will grow up and stop whining so much.
MISSOURI (My home state)
A man from Kansas City walks into a bar and asks, “Wanna hear a joke about people from St. Louis”?
The bartender says, “Listen, pal, I’m from St. Louis, and I won’t appreciate it. The man sitting next to you weighs 255 pounds and he’s from St. Louis too. And the bouncer, the huge guy there, is also from St. Louis. So do you still want to tell that joke”?
No,” says the guy from Kansas City. “Not if I have to explain it three times.”
OHIO
How do you know you’re from Ohio? You own only three spices: salt, pepper and ketchup.
TENNESSEE
Do you know what you get when you play a country tune backwards? You get your job back, your house back, your wife back, your dog back…
WISCONSIN
Sven notices his neighbor has a sign in his yard…”Boat for Sale”.
“Ole,” he says, “you don’t own a boat. All you got is your old tractor and your combine.
“Yup,” said Ole. “And they’re boat for sale.”
If your curious about your state joke…here’s the ENTIRE LIST.
PRIME
Yesterday was the last day for Amazon Prime deals online, And you just know that some dog lover got online and ordered a pair of danged Crocs for their dog.
And you just know that the dog LOVES these!
This is why my friend Lang Scott put this line in the song “Some Things That I Won’t Do” that we wrote together. The line is:
“I won’t get a dog then treat it like it’s human”.
LETS GO LEGO
Check out this bad boy.
28 pros used 324,817 Lego Technic pieces to build this drivable McLaren P1 sports car. It took them 8,000 hours to do it. Wow. Wonder if I can do that with a set of Lincoln logs?
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Man Who Cut Off Fingers And Ears To Become An Alien Explains Daily Struggle He Faces Because Of His Looks. (Yep…and walking into work with your dog in Crocs will cause some of that as well.)
TODAY
Nothing big this weekend.
But next weekend Friday October 18 I’ll be in Effingham, Illinois with Linda Davis, and Lang Scott for an “Evening in the Round show at the Performance Art Center.
October 22-26 in Gulf Shores for the Parrot Head gathering “Meeting of the Minds”.
November 8-11 back in Gulf Shores for the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival.
November 16 in Greenville, Ohio at St. Clair Memorial Hall with Linda Davis and Lang Scott.
So a little lull before it gets busy again.
Have a great weekend!
