Effingham Show...Motel 7...New Parrot Head Show

BILL BLOG

Friday October 18, 2024

And a good Friday morning to you from Effingham, Illinois where we’ll have a high of 68 today with sunshine.

YESTERDAY

I had a little six hour trip to Effingham, Illinois with Linda Davis and Lang Scott as we have a 7 pm
“Evening in the Round” show here tonight at the Performance Arts Center.

A few weeks ago we were traveling to Texas for a couple of shows when we stumbled across this motel.

I figured there was no way we could ever upgrade from a 6.5 Motel…but look what we found on the trip up here to Effingham yesterday.

Wow…Lang says he’s pretty sure a Super 8 should be coming up next. Now, I’ve never stayed in the 6.5 nor the 7, but if I were a betting man, I’d bet they have one of these attached to the beds.

I’m still laughing. And the last part of our trip the three of us were in awe of the HUGE full moon that was out last night. Beautiful.

So we rolled in around 7…had a dinner at a local place and then it was lights out and we’ll have a nice lazy day until load in and soundcheck late this afternoon.

PARROT HEADS UNITE

Next Wednesday through Saturday I’ll be in Gulf Shores for the “Meeting of the Minds” gathering of Parrot Heads from all around the world. I’ll be giving out a couple of awards at the Trop Rock Awards Show on Wednesday night…but I’ll also perform a couple of times. One of those will be Friday as a guest on my friend Brent Burns series at 1:30 pm that day at Lulu’s. Always a fun time sitting on a stool on stage with the intercoastal waters within view.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today it’s Jenny Tolman singing “If You Can’t Stand The Heat” (stay out of my kitchen) that I actually wrote with her and her husband Dave Brainard one day IN their kitchen. How’s that for ironic? Jenny’s a great artist…but also loves to cook so I thought she might like that title…and she and Dave both did. Click on the link to check out this fun sexy song.

NEW SHOW

Saturday April 12 of next year our “Evening in the Round” show with Linda Davis, Lang Scott and me will return to south Pittsburg, Tennessee to play the historic Princess Theatre…our second visit there. Pittsburg is close to Chattanooga in case you’re wondering. We all look forward to that…and I’ll be posting more details on my website about that show soon.

FACEBOOK

I’ve got a new Facebook Fan Page that was launched yesterday. I’ll be adding content soon and will be doing most of my posts on the new page. So do FOLLOW the new page if you will. I long ago hit my max of “friends” on Facebook so this will help cure that.

HEALTH NOTES

Experts say eating walnuts before bedtime will help you sleep better.

Colson fire pits sold at Amazon, and Walmart have been recalled because of multiple burn injury reports.

Florida is reporting a spike in flesh-eating bacteria cases following hurricanes.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I bought two of them.

HOT CITIES

Realtor.com listed 3 cities that have skyrocketed in popularity. #1 is Sioux Falls, South Dakota where homes only last 39 days or less on the market which is 14 days less than anywhere else in the country. Median price for a home there is $358,000 and that’s 67,000 less than the US median price of $425,000.

Bloomington, Illinois and Poughkeepsie, New York are second and third in value. Anybody want to move to Sioux Falls?

ANYONE ELSE SEE TRUMP?

Guy fries up a couple of steaks, and folks say they see the “Donald” in the frying pan. He’s everywhere.

THEM AND US

Taylor Swift is getting ready to start the last leg of her Era’s Tour that’s made a fortune. And some tickets are going for nearly $4,000. Per ticket! Call Ticketmaster and order yours today. Or not.

VICTORIA’S SECRET

They had their big lingerie show again. I’m thankful to Victoria’s Secret because it inspired a line that I wrote in a song of mine called “The Question Song”. And the line is, “what the heck do you see exactly in a Victoria Secret HALF-OFF sale???

And with that…I’ll give you this funny Victoria’s Secret Song from my buddy Brent Burns.

NOT SOMETHING YOU SEE EVERYDAY

Yep…dude used his electric scooter to pull his bass boat out of the water. A redneck Macgyver.

THEME PARK

Universal Studios will open its highly anticipated Epic Universe Theme Park on May 22 of 2025. It will be the largest of their 3 theme parks in Orlando. 5 different themes will run through the new park. And if you like theme parks in general?  This one look really cool. Here’s a PREVIEW.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Accidentally Swallows Wedding Ring While Taking Vitamins. (Don’t put your ring in a days of the week pillbox Ethel!)

TONIGHT

Showtime is 7 pm for me, Linda Davis and Lang Scott for our “Evening in the Round” show here at the Effingham Performing Arts Center. Looking very forward to that.

Then back to Nashville early in the morning to unpack and repack for the beach next week.

Have a great weekend!

Freedom Sings USA Event...A Gold Star Mom...An Old Friend Surprise

BILL BLOG Monday September 9, 2024 Monday morning and I’m back home in Nashville from Marion, Illinois. Sunshine and a high of 84 today here in Music City.       THE WEEKEND Thursday I made the three hour trip up to Marion, Illinois for our Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreat with songwriters Bobby Tomberlin , Steve Dean , Irene Kelley, and Don Goodman.   Marion is in southern Illinois…beautiful town and the folks who organized the event were so kind and passionate about honoring their veterans. Friday night they had a “meet and greet” in a beautiful old church where we had a great dinner and then played a show for all of those who attended. The Mayor, the organizers and the veterans.   Each songwriter met the veteran they were going to write with that night. This is mine. His name is Art Fager .   More on Art in a second.   FRIDAY Friday morning we gathered in yet another church for early breakfast and then each songwriter sat down wit

Beach Rhymes...Football Kickoff...Freedom Sings USA Trip

BILL BLOG Thursday September 5, 2024   Thursday arises and I have a day of traveling to Marion, Illinois. More on that at the end of today’s Blog. Back up to 90 with sun today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Darrell Clanton yesterday for the first time. Darrell lives in Lakeland, Florida with his wife and back in the day he was an artist here in Nashville and had a couple of country songs on the charts, and had several folks record his songs.     These days Darrell and his band “Bad Habit” are very active in the Trop Rock genre playing a lot of beach music and beach shows. A couple of years ago Darrell and I played the Jim Parker Songwriter Show in Huntsville, Alabama along with my buddy Brent Burns . And then Darrell and I just played it again a few months ago. Then yesterday I really got to know him and we did write a beach song for him.   We’ll be writing more for sure in the future. And there’s a chance that sometime next year that we’ll do a cruise toget

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f
