9/11 Anniversary...Road Trip To Texas..."Crickets"...

BILL BLOG

Wednesday September 11, 2024

Hump Day Wednesday. Ready to load up and head to Texas.

And today is 9/11. May we never ever forget. I was on the radio that morning on WSM-FM inside the Opryland Hotel. And I will never forget being on the air from 5:30 that morning until about 8 pm that evening trying to make sense of what had just happened like millions of other Americans that day. I remember watching the TV in the back of the studio while my microphone was “hot”. And when the second plane hit the second tower I remember saying “we’re at war”.

I put part of that experience that morning in a song I would later write “Face ForRadio”.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with Jenny Tolman and Dave Brainard yesterday alongside their now almost two year old son Bear. Man do kids grow in a hurry!

Jenny has a couple of exciting things happening in her career. One I can’t mention, but the one I can mention is her festival that she heads in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that’s coming up…back to where they got married in the snow in the Tetons one day! The festival is title “Cowgirls at the Cowboy 2024” that’s held at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar there in Jackson Hole, Wyoming that will feature Jenny with her guests Ashley McBryde, and 3 other great female songwriters on October 3-5.

So it was fun catching up with those two and getting a start on a cool new tune for Jenny. More work to be done at a later date.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today I’m choosing the Joe Nichols song “Crickets” that was the title track of one his albums. That’s a tune I wrote with Lisa Shaffer and Brent Baxter. We thought Luke Bryan was going to record it then they decided not to. That sucked! Then Easton Corbin looked to record it an changed his mind as well. But it ended well as Joe Nichols DID record the song about those awkward moments when all you hear back from the person you’re talking to is “Crickets”.

 FUNNY

But I did groan a little.

HEALTH NOTES

The maker of Ozempic is touting a ‘remarkable,’ more convenient’ new pill that promises to help you shed up to 13% of your weight in 3 months.

On the anniversary of 9/11 comes this grim statistic. Nearly 17 thousand first responders are suffering cancers, diseases linked to 9/11 over two decades later.

Research has found that caffeine MAY cause your blood pressure to rise, especially for those who don’t regularly consume coffee. However, other research shows that moderate, regular consumption of coffee does not have a negative effect on blood pressure. (I like what the second research says)

MEGA RICH

Someone won 800 million dollars last night in the Mega million drawing. Wasn’t me. Sigh. The winner bought his ticket in the Houston area.

What’s the old joke?

They say there’s more chance of dying on the way to play the lottery than actually winning. That’s why I send my wife. Win-Win.

EVERYBODY LOVE JELLO

If I ever do hit on a lottery ticket I think this will be my first purchase.

Where was this when I was in college in a dorm room?  An inflatable Jello chair. Tell me you don’t want to blow one of those bad boys up!

DEER SEASON

Some farmers aren’t taking any chances.

DEBATE

Many bars and restaurants held DEBATE parties last night so folks could have a cold one while watching Donald and Kamala go at it.

I’m waiting to see the count on the number of fights that broke out.

TODAY

Long road trip to Lufkin, Texas (deep east Texas) for an “Evening in the Round” show Thursday night at 7 pm with Linda Davis & Lang Scott. It’s always fun to go to Linda’s home state and play music alongside her and Lang. See you there!

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Trio of Writers...Post CMA...Alligator Bread

BILL BLOG Friday November 22, 2024   Friday…the weekend be here! Little chillier going into the weekend with a high of just 49 today and the low tonight will dip down to 37.   YESTERDAY I rhymed with two friends yesterday Rick Lang and Kristy Cox . Though I have written with both many times, and each of them have recorded songs I’ve written with them, it was the first time the three of us sat down together. And yesterday we wrote a gospel song idea that Rick brought with him…pretty much an entire chorus.      I was able to share with Rick that I heard one of our songs “ Church Bells A Ringin ” that’s on the Blue Collar Gospel Album-Songs of Rick Lang on Sirius-XM on the way to our appointment sung by Danny Paisley and a group of great harmony singers. That was pretty cool.     And we got to celebrate with Kristy for her album “Let It Burn” that’s up for a couple of big Golden Guitar Awards this year including Best Albu...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
