Montana Jealousy...Survivor...Super Bowl Party

BILL BLOG

Thursday, May 21, 2026

Hello Thursday. After a little rain yesterday in Nashville, we are expecting more today and right on through the weekend. And that has cooled us down, as the high will only be 74 today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote a new song with Tim Stafford online, as he lives in Knoxville. Not only did we write a “dark” bluegrass tune, but he also delivered some great news when he told me that two songs we’ve written together will be on his next album.

And young, talented bluegrass artist Ashby Frank is recording one of our songs on his next record as well. Great news.

Tim made me jealous as well when I found out he’ll be out near Bozeman, Montana, for a combined guitar workshop and fly-fishing week. Tim is one of the best guitar players in bluegrass, and a friend has invited him to be one of this year’s teachers, AND he’ll get to do some fly fishing in the mountains.

I’m jealous because I’ve played the Music Ranch where he’ll be with Linda Davis and Lang Scott, and it’s some kind of gorgeous. You can actually see the mountains from the stage you’re playing on.

Yep, I'm jealous.

SURVIVOR

I did watch the finale of Survivor 50 last night. My daughter Heather, who is over in Germany for a couple of more months before moving to Arizona with her hubby Casey, chose Aubrey to win, I chose Rizzo. Here’s who won.

Nope, that ain’t Rizzo. I’m expecting a call from Heather overseas to tell me, “I told you so.”

SONG OF THE DAY

How about a beach song? This is one of my favorites I’ve written with Brent Burns,A Boy, and a Girl, and a Beach."

 HEALTH NOTES

An Air France flight was blocked from entering the US and diverted to Canada over Ebola fears.

There have been 171 deaths and 500 cases of Ebola so far in the Congo, and the WHO is saying it’s “deeply concerned” about the scale and speed of the epidemic.

Research is showing that even "silent" heart attacks can speed up cognitive decline.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Uh huh.

MORE AI

Scott Borchetta, the head of Big Machine Records here in Nashville, and the guy who put Taylor Swift on the map, gave the commencement speech at MTSU. When he brought up using AI, he got booed by the students. He responded by saying, “Deal with it. Like I said, it’s a tool. Make it work for you.”

And on it goes.

FUNNY

This headline this morning from Babylon Bee:

Study Reveals 90% Of Data Centers Just Storing Your Wife’s Pictures Of The Kids.”

THEM AND US

Singer Billy Eilish was gifted a hamster. She named it “Tomato Bisque Soup.” True. And then built it a mini mansion to play in.

Now, I can’t throw stones, because when I was young, I helped name one of our family dog’s “Jaws” during the height of popularity for that movie.

MORE ON THE SUPERBOWL

It’s coming to Nashville in 2030. Jim Nantz, the great announcer, will be here to cover it. He predicted that when it’s over, people will say it’s the greatest sporting event ever. Watch THIS VIDEO PREDICTION. Wow.

Well, this town does know how to party. Here’s what Lower Broadway looked like when they held the NFL Draft here a few years ago.

It turns out that country singers Eric Church and Tim McGraw were instrumental in convincing the NFL to give Nashville a Super Bowl to be held at its new stadium opening next season. Who knew? Both of them were on the committee trying to bring it here…and they succeeded.

GREAT RACE NEWS

The Wienermobile Race will be a part of the Indianapolis 500 again this year, Memorial Day Weekend.

How can you NOT watch a bunch of weenies racing each other? Life is good.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From comedian Dennis Miller:

Just be good and kind to your children. Not only are they the future of the world…they’re the ones who can sign you into a home.”

TODAY

I’ll be at my publishing company writing with Alex Miller & Steve Dean. Though I have written with each of them many times, this will be the first time the three of us will write together. Here’s to some magic happening today.

Have a great Thursday!
