A New Song...A New Cut...Alex Miller Album Release

Bring on the weekend. It’s Friday! 83 will be the high today in Nashville, and we will be up near 90 this weekend.

YESTERDAY

I had a great writing session with my Italian friend Lauren Mascitti at her new publishing company. She recently signed a deal with North Chapel Publishing so that’s where we wrote.

I brought a half-started song with me, she loved it, and we certainly had fun finishing it up together. Lauren is such a terrific singer, as you can hear with this fun tune she wrote by herself, “Childless Cat Lady.”

Lots of good things are going to be happening to this young artist.

SPEAKING OF NORTH CHAPEL

North Chapel Publishing is part of Quartz Records, whose big artist right now is Joe Nichols. I got word yesterday that Joe is recording a new song I wrote with my friend Brian White, along with Nathan Woodard, and Jason Severs.  Now there's some great news. The song is titled, "Keeping It Real," and I hope this is one you'll get to hear on your country radio station someday. Thank you Joe!

This will be the second song of mine that he's recorded. The first one is this song, "Crickets" that was the title track of one his albums that I wrote with Lisa Shaffer & Brent Baxter.

LAST NIGHT

Alex Miller held his album release party at the Texas Troubadour Theater here in Nashville. Grand Ole Opry star Ernest Tubb was nicknamed the “Texas Troubadour”, and Ernest is one of Alex’s musical favorites. So it seemed appropriate for Alex’s release party to be held in this theater named after Ernest.

Alex had a full house to play to with his band. They played every song from the new album, “More Country Than You,” including the title track, which I helped write, and Alex recorded with Emily Ann Roberts. Alex mentioned last night that the song has now had over 2.5 million streams. Wow.

All in all, Alex and his band played three songs that I’m a part of last night. It was fun hanging out with so many friends, and hearing those songs played “live.”

SONG OF THE DAY

And since it was a big night for Alex, here’s another song he recorded that the two of us wrote with Josh Shilling, “Ain’t Ever Saying Never.”

HEALTH NOTES

There’s a new blood test that could show if prostate cancer treatment is failing. Experts believe this discovery could lead to personalized therapies and extend the lives of men with advanced disease.

Researchers have found an experimental obesity drug that outperforms traditional weight-loss treatments.

A study says that surgery may worsen osteoarthritis.

HERE'S YOUR SIGN

I are going to do that.

AI

More and more experts seem to agree that AI is not about to arrive, that it’s already here. And this is an example of that. I read a post yesterday about someone applying for a job. The entire job interview was done with an AI chatbot reviewing her resume. It asked her about her experiences, qualifications, you name it.

Which means, I guess, that in the future, one could be fired by AI as well.

MAKING ENDS MEET

Sometimes it takes having more than one business to pay the bills. Here are some real-life examples.

Jones BBQ & Foot Massage (eat brisket while someone rubs your toes)

Funeral Home & Shark Tank (One might lead to the other)

Gun Store & Tax Preparation. (Sort of an “H&R Glock” kind of thing, I guess.

And then there’s this one.

LIVING IT UP

A survey just revealed the cost of living for every state for your retirement years.

For Tennessee, it’s $38,314. For my home state of Missouri, it’s $34,659.

But if you live in California? $73,387.

If you’re curious about your state, here’s the entire LIST

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Elisabeth Elliot:

Today is mine, tomorrow is none of my business.”

 TODAY

Nothing big today. But I’ll be prepping for a "Freedoms Sings USA" road trip to Marion, Illinois, this Monday morning, where songwriter Bill DiLugi and myself will be singing some songs we have written with veterans for those returning from an Honor Flight to DC. Three veterans that I have written with in that area will be attending, so I’ll be going over those songs to perform Monday evening.

Have a great weekend!
