Thursday morning it is. And the temperature is going back up. 79 for the high today, then into the 80’s again for the rest of the week.
YESTERDAY
Wednesday was a “catch-up” and working-ahead day. Details rolled in for a 3-day Freedom Sings USA event next weekend in the town of Anna, Illinois, where I’ll be joining several other Nashville songwriters to write songs with veterans, which concludes with a free concert honoring those veterans.
I did notice that we will be staying at an old High School that has been converted into an Inn.
Kind of reminds me of Elsberry High School in Missouri where I graduated.
This will be different than the normal hotel rooms we normally stay in for sure.
And, apparently, they kept the gym, so we can shoot some hoops if we want.
Looking forward to this trip.
SONG OF THE DAY
My choice today is the musical story of Marc Rogers, who was a Navy Corpsman when he served our country. This song was written with Marc in Heyworth, Illinois, where he’s from, at a Freedom Sings USA retreat a few years ago up in Heyworth.
When Marc told me that they gave him the name of “Armadillo”, I knew I had found his song title. Always an honor to write with a veteran, and his song is fun and country. Click the link to listen.
I’m looking forward to being back in Heyworth with our group to write with yet another veteran on July 17 & 18 of this year.
HEALTH NOTES
A study suggests that Casein and wheat gluten could be effective in fighting cholera. Human trials need to be conducted according to that same study.
Chocolate, cheese, and yogurt have now been linked to longer life in a detailed study of 3 million people.
A personal trainer and nutritionist claims that muscle loss is one of the most common side effects when using weight loss medications.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Amen.
THE MASTERS
They tee off for the big one today in Augusta. Last year’s champion, Rory McIlroy, was charged with putting together a Champions Dinner, as the winner does every year. Someone asked him why he was not serving Irish dishes, being from Northern Ireland, and Rory answered, “Because I want to enjoy the food as well.”
Funny.
I had a chance to go to the Masters. Back in 2020. All set to go as a guest of my friend Lang Scott, whose daughter, Hillary Scott, was singing for an event at the Masters with her group Lady A. And then COVID hit. Sigh. The entire thing shut down. That close!
HOT
If you thought March was hot…you were correct. It was the hottest March ever, according to those weather folks. And they predict that it’s going to get warmer each year. Global warming, El Niño, whatever. Just hot.
How hot? One guy claimed it was so hot that he pulled a tick off a fish. Hot.
DON’T SEE EVERY DAY
Two women in Mexico got into a fight over the top of a coffin when they found out that both of them had been dating the guy in the coffin.
Gotta be a song in that!
SELF-DRIVING CARS
In Austin, Texas, one of those self-driving cars hit and killed a duck. There’s still some dialing in to be done on these bad boys.
That, however, did not stop Luke Bryan from jumping in one in Texas. Check out Luke’s experience in this VIDEO.
GROCERIES
It ain’t cheap going to the grocery store these days. The items with the largest price increases over the past year are these.
Orange juice up 15.4%
Steak up 21.1%
Ground beef up 31.3%
Lettuce up 38.6 %
And coffee is up a whopping 55.2%
However, some of the staples have dropped in price.
Pasta is down 7.6% from a year ago.
Bread down 7.8%
Tomatoes down 10.8%
Potatoes down 10.8%
And eggs dipped 16.6% after being sky high in price not all that long ago.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From John Paul Sartre:
“If you are lonely when you’re alone, you are in bad company.”
TODAY
I’m writing with young, talented Sonny French today, who makes up a third of the family band The French Family Band.
Here’s a little VIDEO showing you how well Sonny plays…already alongside his Mom and Dad.
Like his father, Stuie, Sonny is a tremendous guitar player at a young age. The family is just off a two-month-long tour, so it will be fun getting to hear how that’s going. And, I’ll get updated on their new album, which includes three songs that I helped them write.
Have a great Thursday!
