Tuesday it is…all day long. Sunshine with a high of 66 in Nashville today.
YESTERDAY
I got a new song started with Kevin Williamson of the family group Williamson Branch yesterday.
Their family band has been busy for the first quarter of this year, which is always a good thing if you’re a musician. We still have work left over on this idea Kevin brought with him. We’ll do that sometime next month when we get back together.
Sometimes songs just fall out, and you complete them quickly; others require more time and patience to get them just right, as this one does.
CHAMPS
Turned out that UConn gave Michigan a run for its money last night in the college basketball championship game, but in the end, Michigan still claimed the trophy. Final score 69-63. Different era of college basketball for sure, as the players are now getting paid. And Michigan was one of the top payers, with its roster making over 10 million dollars.
Somehow, I don’t see my college basketball team, the Central Missouri State University Mules, ever competing with that.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today’s song is “My Last Name,” written with my former hockey player buddy Rob Bellamy.
Rob asked me to write a song for his wedding day, as he was getting ready to say “I do” to another longtime friend and singer, Ayla Brown, who incidentally played basketball for Boston College.
I was happy to do it. He surprised her with the song after their vows, and with her crying, they danced to it. A few days later, Ayla called me, and she was pretty emotional as she thanked me for writing that song. That’s the kind of thing that makes you glad to be a songwriter.
HEALTH NOTES
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has sent a memo directing hospitals to align their meals with the dietary guidelines by reducing ultra-processed foods, sugar-sweetened beverages, refined carbohydrates, and added sugars.
For the first time, Medicare is covering some cannabis products under a pilot program that opens up more of the nearly $30 billion hemp industry to seniors.
Word is that scientists have made a significant breakthrough in understanding Crohn’s disease, identifying what drives the development of debilitating scar tissue in the intestines.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Can I get an Amen?
WATCH IT AGAIN
According to the film folks, the Top 5 Most Rewatchable Movies are:
5…Goodfellas
4…Shawshank Redemption
3…Back to the Future
2…The Dark Knight (Batman)
And their most rewatchable movie is “Pulp Fiction”.
I’m sure all of us have our own list. For me? Field of Dreams, A Few Good Men, Miracle, All The President’s Men, and Smokey and the Bandit would be a few. How about you?
FUNNY
This fake headline from the Babylon Bee:
‘Look Out!’ Shouts Female Astronaut as Orion Gets Within 5,000 Miles of the Moon. (I’m showing this one to my wife, maybe)
KIDS STAYING AT HOME
More and more kids are staying at home. Some are not able to afford housing. The top 5 states experiencing that are Maryland, California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico…57.5% of grown kids are still living with their parents.
And all of that reminds me of this funny song from my friend Brent Burns, who wrote about all of that in “Please Don’t Let That KidMove Back Home.”
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Willie Nelson:
"I have this kind of philosophy that I can't do anything about what happened yesterday, or what's going to happen tomorrow. But I feel in full control of what's going on now. I think worry will make you sick. I've never seen it accomplish anything. I've never seen worrying about anything change it. So I decided not to do it. If you can't do anything about it, why in the hell worry about it? Every negative thought you have releases poison into your system, and will kill you or give you cancer, or tumors, or whatever else you can think of. So if you are thinking negatively about anything, erase that."
TODAY
I’m writing with my Canadian friend Andrea Pearson again this morning, and bluegrass great Jamie Johnson of the highly acclaimed group “The Grascals” will join the two of us.
Jamie and I have been threatening to write for a long time, and it’s finally happening. Should be great fun.
Have a great Tuesday!
