Monday has rolled around again. And it’s bringing some light rain along with a 79-degree high in Nashville today.
THE WEEKEND
Mine started with a great co-write and a very fun co-write with my friend Angus Gill. Angus is from Australia, but now lives in the States. But he still works with a lot of musical artists back home.
Angus knows an artist back home who’s looking for songs right now, so we wrote a “country-drinking” song for him, since Angus knows the artist likes that kind of song. And this one is a little funny as well. We’ll see if he likes it.
I’m proud of Angus, who is starting to make some noise here in Nashville. He is currently working on a project to raise money for the James Burton fund. James played lead guitar for Elvis for many years, and for many other notable folks.
I actually got to see James playing guitar for Elvis when I was young in St. Louis. Amazing concert to say the least.
Angus has run down folks like Uncle Cracker, Rodney Crowell, Marty Stuart, Boz Skaggs, Brian May, the lead guitarist for Queen, and has gotten them to agree to be part of this great project. Pretty danged impressive.
YESTERDAY
I watched some of the Master’s finale in different places, as CBS, which carries the Master’s, is not on my TV, as CBS and my carrier Comcast are fighting over pricing. So, I watched a few holes on Prime, and had to hear the finale on the radio. And it was Rory McIlroy holding on to become a repeat Master’s Champion.
Found that picture on Facebook. It made me smile.
LAST NIGHT
I went to Eric Church’s place on Lower Broadway, “Chiefs”, to see my friend Brady Seals put on a show with a full band.
And he did not disappoint. One of my favorite co-writers in this town is also a great entertainer. It was a treat to hear him perform a song he recorded that we wrote, "Been There, Drunk That."
The highlight of the show may have been when he got two former members of “Little Texas” up to sing “Kick A Little” with him, and then later “God Blessed Texas.” Brady was a part of that group, of course, along with the other two in this picture, Dwayne Propes and Porter Howell. Here’s a little VIDEO clip of that moment.
Fun evening for sure.
ROAD TRIP THIS WEEK
Up ahead this week, Thursday through Saturday, I’ll be in Anna, Illinois, with Freedom Sings USA, along with several other Nashville songwriters, to write songs with our veterans from that region. Thursday, we will give the veterans a songwriter show. Friday, we each will be assigned a veteran to write with, and Friday night, we’ll do one more songwriter show. Then on Saturday evening, we have a free concert where all the songs written with veterans will be performed. It’s always a memorable and amazing event.
SONG OF THE DAY
The new Alex Miller album was released this past Friday, and on that album is this song, “Memories and Gin,” that Alex and I wrote a couple of years ago. I’m making that the choice for the “Song of the Day.”
HEALTH NOTES
A new study in Finland found that 30 minutes in a sauna, paired with a quick, cooling shower halfway through, improved the circulation of white blood cells, which are part of the body’s immune system.
A new study published in the International Journal of Public Health found that moderate wine intake can be a boon for longevity and biological aging.
A sleep expert says that “Clean sheets help signal your brain that it’s time to relax, which improves how quickly and deeply you fall asleep.”
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Appropriate on the heels of the Masters wrapping up this past weekend.
LANDING PLANE
The FAA is reaching out to “gamers” to be air traffic controllers, as they have some of the same skill sets. And they need more air traffic controllers. The promise is that by the third year of employment, new hires will earn $155,000 per year. Not bad.
I used to play a lot of Donkey Kong. Wonder if they’d be interested in my services?
AN ODD HEADLINE
“Driver and Pet Ferret Uninjured in Crash.” Uh huh. And that happened here in Music City. Thank God, both were buckled up.
WHICH ONE?
I’m trying to decide which of these I need least. This whiskey lamp…
Or, an Army Man bottle opener.
If I order either on Amazon, I’m sure I’ll be having a very interesting conversation with my wife when they arrive.
HOUSES GETTING CHEAPER
Redfin says that 34.2% of home sellers dropped their listing prices in February, the most since 2012. The indications are that it could be a buyer’s market for the first time in a long while. Which means this home should be a real bargain right now.
FUNNY
My friend Linda Davis shared a list of funny stuff she found on a Facebook post over the weekend. Here are some that made me laugh.
I remember being able to get up without making sound effects.
If you’re sitting in public and a stranger takes a seat next to you, just stare straight ahead and say, “Did you bring the money?”
When someone asks what I did over the weekend, I squint and ask, “Why, what did you hear?”

Word is that Mark Wahlberg is going to make a movie about the legendary Pete Rose, the all-time hit leader in baseball.
I'm there for that one.
ROLLER COASTER
I do love roller coasters, but I’m not sure if I would climb on the Tormenta Raging Run that just debuted at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.
That drop is as high as the Niagara Falls. 179 feet. Don’t eat lunch before climbing on. Here’s a VIDEO of what being on board would look like.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Oscar Wilde:
“Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back."
TODAY
Nothing major on the calendar today, so catching up on catching up stuff.
Have a great Monday!
