New Songs Coming...Swim Trunks...Shows In May

Here comes the weekend…it’s Friday—some rain, maybe a storm, with a high of 80 today.

Oklahoma had tornadoes touch down yesterday, something that the state is familiar with. But how about three twisters spotted in central California yesterday? You don’t normally associate California with tornadoes.

Is some of that kind of activity headed our way? We’ll see. Hope not.

YESTERDAY

Thursday was not busy around the Whyte House. Did a couple of “have to” things, and watched the NFL Draft last night.

How popular is the NFL? Look at how many people stood in Pittsburgh last evening to watch players be drafted.

Over 320,000!

BEHIND THE SCENES

My friend Katrina Burgoyne is in the studio recording a sexy song that the two of us wrote. Check this out. Here’s a sneak peek of what that looks and sounds like. Love it.

NEW MUSIC

I got to hear 3 songs I’m a writer on for the new French Family Band album that is out in June, with a big listening party at the Station Inn on June 9—looking very forward to that.

And what a treat to hear how great all three of these songs sound!  All three were written with either Stuie, the Father, or his boy Sonny, with one outside writer on the song written with Sonny, Angus Gill.

They are such a great family, as well as being great singers and musicians. I’m just tickled to be part of this.

For those who are curious about the album title, as I was, Huon is a tree or timber in Australia where the family is from. And we have a lot of Hickory in Nashville and Tennessee, which is where the family lives now. I'm pretty sure they are going to get a lot of questions about their album title...but now you know.

SONG OF THE DAY

Here’s a song of mine that I wrote with Jerry Salley that was recorded by a real-deal cowboy in Australia, Roo Arcus. Sounds like a George Strait record, “If That’s What Love Was” The song went to #2 on the Australian Country Music Charts, so that was cool!

HEALTH NOTES

A new review by researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz suggests that fructose alone may drive metabolic disease via sugar consumption.

A recent study shows that Moringa oleifera, an ancient herbal plant known as the “tree of life,” can remove microplastics from water.

Ringo Starr is 85. And the former Beatle’s drummer still runs and lifts weights. He says to all of us, “Get in the gym. (Gosh, if I were Ringo with his money? I’d pay someone to run and lift weights for me)

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Yep, something for the parents.

SAFE PLACES

Wide Open Spaces just listed the 5 safest states to live in.

5…Utah

4…Massachussetts

3…Maine

2…New Hampshire

And the safest state? That would be Vermont.

So you can sit on a porch in Vermont and eat this, and not worry about someone stealing your pint.

SWIMMING

It’s that time of the year. Pools are opening, and folks are hitting their favorite beaches. Hopefully, no man is wearing any of these when they hit the sand.

Or…

And I’m pretty sure you will never see me wearing these when I’m on the diving board.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Comedian Emo Phillips:

When I was a kid, I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. I realized that the Lord doesn’t work that way, so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.”

TODAY

I was supposed to be writing with the husband-wife team that is Jenny Tolman and her husband, Dave Brainard, but I got cancelled last night. At least it was for a pretty good reason!

Jenny is working on her new album with Dave producing. And today, Gretchen Wilson is going to sing on one of her songs. So I got ditched for the “Redneck Woman.”

Jenny was on “The Road” TV show competition last year, and Gretchen was the “mentor” on the show.

I’m glad to hear that kind of good news for Jenny and her project. And I’m certainly glad that Jenny sang not one, but two songs we wrote together on that Taylor Sheridan-produced show, including “I Know Some Cowboys.

And then I’m kind of keeping my eyes on the weather this weekend into Monday as they’re thinking we could see some more severe stuff. Yuk.

Have a great weekend.
