Tuesday, and it’s the last day of March…already. We will hit 84 degrees for our high today in Nashville.
YESTERDAY
I had a whole lot of nothing on my Monday plate, so I spent some of my time working ahead on upcoming tour dates and songwriting appointments. And I spent some time looking at my song list for tomorrow night when I’ll be a guest of the great songwriter Larry Cordle at the Station Inn, alongside my buddy Bobby Tomberlin.
Bobby has 3 of his songs on the new Willie Nelson album, so I’m sure I’ll get to hear some of that tomorrow evening, and Larry always slays the room when he sings his Diamond Rio hit “Mama, Don’t Forget to Pray For Me.” I’m looking forward to hearing those songs as well as many others.
SONG OF THE DAY
My friend Troy Engle, who now plays multiple instruments for Ricky Skaggs in Ricky’s great band Kentucky Thunder, put up a “live” version of a song we wrote together titled “Back Home.” This was a single for Troy and the title track for his last album. Always fun to hear a “live” version of the song.
HEALTH NOTES
We sit, on average, 9.5 hours a day, whether at home or work. Experts say that if we “mentally sit,” meaning we keep our minds active when sitting, we can lower dementia risk by 7%.
Experts say we need to walk for an average of 45 minutes a day to see any weight loss.
According to health experts, happier, healthier people do these six things every day. Follow a healthy diet, exercise, don’t smoke or drink, never stop learning, become skilled problem solvers, and they love.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep, that usually does not work out well for those trying.
SPRING BREAK
It got out of hand in Gulf Shores, Alabama, my favorite beach destination, yesterday. Police broke up a huge party at two different house rentals on the beach. Over 100 were underage drinking, and one threw their drink on a police officer.
And in Daytona, police were dealing with fights, shootings, and a dangerous stampede. You know it’s not a good thing when you see a Spring Breaker wearing this T-Shirt.
I’ve posted this before, but it seems appropriate to post this funny song about Spring Break that I wrote with Brent Burns, in Gulf Shores, about what he thinks about Spring Breakers invading Gulf Shores every year. Check out, “GET OFF MY BEACH”!!!!
AND IF YOU’RE GOING TO THE BEACH
The cost of getting there has gone up. Gas is now $4 a gallon on average, the highest since 2022. I still have an old COVID mask that I use to cover my eyes when I’m at the gas pump so that I don’t have to see how much it costs.
ALSO EXPENSIVE
That would be homes in Nashville. A Vanderbilt poll reveals that 82% say they can’t afford to buy a home in Music City. No wonder we have so many rental condos being built.
WHAT DID HE HIT?!
You don’t see this every day. A windsurfer COLLIDING with a whale in San Francisco Bay. Wow. The windsurfer and the whale are both okay.
AND THEN THERE’S THIS GUY
His name is Johnny Cruz Buckingham, and he just broke the Guinness record for fastest asphalt skiing, hitting 70 mph behind the car pulling him. Uh huh.
Wonder if this will be part of the summer Olympic Games in LA?
I always wonder what makes a person wake up one day and think, “You know what I’m going to try?
THINK I’LL DRINK WATER
They just sold a bottle of wine at auction in New York at a record-breaking price of $812,500.
That’s a 1945 Domain de la Romanee-Conti. Like I would know. It could be a bottle of Boone’s Farm, and I wouldn’t know the difference.
BAD NEWS
Someone stole a truck transporting 12 tons of Kit Kats from a truck headed from the Kit Kat factory in Italy to Poland.
GOOD NEWS
Kit Kat officials assure us they still have plenty for Easter. And all is well with the world.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Terry Pratchett:
“Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of a lack of wisdom.”
TODAY
My buddy Brady Seals and I will be joining the young Hatcher Brothers for the second time to write together.
That would be Spencer and Connor, with Spencer being the older of the two. Both of them write and play multiple instruments, coming from a bluegrass family. But Spencer has been signed to Quartz Hill Records and has “gone country.” So we’ll be trying to write something in that vein today.
Have a great Tuesday!
