And a good Tuesday morning to you from Missouri. I’m back home to give a eulogy at a dear friend’s funeral at 10 AM this morning. Up in the 80’s here in Missouri today. Come this Monday, though, the high will be just 38 degrees, with a low of just 24 on Monday night. Yikes.

YESTERDAY

I overnighted with my longtime friend Dodge Raymer last night, the husband of the late Dean Raymer, who was my band manager back in the day, and a second Mom to me. The two of us drove up to Bowling Green, Missouri, for a visitation for my friend Joe Lewis, with whom I worked with as a kid at KPCR Radio in Bowling Green. We had a chance to visit with Joe’s wife Rosie and two of his daughters. The one daughter, Lori, wrote this OBITUARY that truly captured who her Dad was. I’m honored that the family chose me to say a few words this morning.

THE RADIO STATION

The radio station that was in a one-bedroom cow pasture where Joe and I worked moved into a barn. I worked in the barn for a few years, too.  When we left the funeral home, Dodge and I drove to the barn, and we got a tour of what it looks like now.

The part owner gave me the nickel tour, and it was a trip down memory lane. Some of it still looked a little familiar. And we shared some great stories about Joe and that radio station.

He told me they STILL play “Mo Mo” the Missouri Monster that was my first record that was co-written by Joe Lewis, and the first owner of KPCR…Paul Salois. Unreal. Still playing it!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY

To my long-time friend Brent Burns down in Gulf Shores, who almost passed out trying to blow out all those candles on his birthday cake. I’ve written a ton of songs with my best friend through the years, and well over 50 of those have been recorded by him. Including “Retired” recorded by Ray Stevens, and “Going Ugly Early Tonight” recorded by Cledus T. Judd.

Here’s a picture of his first birthday, his best-looking birthday shot ever.

I’m blessed to have such a great friend and collaborator, and partner in laughter in my life.

SONG OF THE DAY

Bluegrass singer Lori King just released her new single “Tennessee Breeze” today, and that’s a song I wrote with my friend Adam Pope. Thank you for loving our song, Lori. Let’s make that the “song of the day” today.

HEALTH NOTES

A study says that GLP-1 weight loss drugs are linked to higher fracture risk, osteoporosis, and gout.

There’s some research suggesting that cannabis compounds could reverse a disease affecting one-third of adults, liver disorder.

There are now AI robots moving in with some lonely, elderly folks in New York to keep them company…for free.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Okay, that’s a truly weird one.

CARRY THAT WIFE

In case you missed it, a pair from Finland won the annual “wife-carrying” contest in England over the weekend.

Why this is not an Olympic sport, I will never understand. The winning couple won a barrel of ale. Almost as good as a gold medal.

JOKE

From New York columnist Cindy Adams. “There’s a shortage of water in Hollywood now. Two Perrier trucks collided.”

HARD NOT TO NOTICE

Gas prices have jumped recently due to the Middle East conflict. A week ago, I filled up for something like $2.45 a gallon. On the trip to Missouri yesterday, I paid $3.65 per gallon at a pump in Illinois.

LOUD…REALLY LOUD

A woman was kicked off a flight because she was playing a video on her phone with no headphones on. Loudly. Authorities came and took her off the plane…and then she made more noise than her cell phone speaker did.

BASEBALL FAN?

If you are, like I am, watch these two dazzling plays at shortstop from Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt in last night’s USA vs Mexico game in the World Baseball Classic that was played in Houston last night. How in the world do he do that?!

LONG WAIT

Because of TSA problems, air travelers are being told to arrive at airports 4 hours early. 4 hours. No thanks, I think I’ll rent a car and drive to Hawaii. They rent cars that float…right?

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Will Rogers:

Never miss a good chance to shut up.”

TODAY

I’ll give the eulogy for my friend in a couple of hours, then it’s all the way home to Nashville.

Have a great Tuesday!
