Thursday morning, be here. And it’s bringing sunshine with a 78 degree high to Nashville.
YESTERDAY
With no appointments on my calendar, yesterday was a day of catching up on things. I did a little pre-work for a couple of “Hits & Grins” shows coming up. The first one is this Friday night in Huntsville at the Jim Parker Songwriter Series.
And then the following Saturday at Starstruck Farms in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Looking forward to both of those.
OLD FRIENDS
I caught up with a couple of those yesterday. I got a text from my Grand Canyon Railway Train buddy, John Carpino. It was John who got me on the train two years, singing songs to the tourists as the train rolled to the south rim of the Grand Canyon and back to Williams, Arizona, each day. It was a blast.
Thank you, John, for that!
John let me know that he was interviewing another longtime friend of mine, Roger Naylor, who is an Arizona Travel Hall of Fame Writer with 12 books about hiking, and burgers, and more that are all great reads.
Roger wrote comedy for my radio show in Cincinnati, and we’ve remained lifelong friends. He’s taken me hiking in those beautiful Sedona trails two or three different times.
So I had a chance to spend some time on the phone with both of them, and certainly enjoyed the interview on the Public Radio Station John works at sometimes in Williams, Arizona.
AND
I also spent a little time on the phone with my younger brother, Gary, and his wife, Kay, down in central Florida. Always a good thing.
And both told me and my wife, Kathy, how much they’ve enjoyed reading Kathy’s first book, “Subtle Frequency”. That was good to hear.
So yesterday was really a great day for talking to family and friends, which I need to do more often.
SONG OF THE DAY
Here’s another one I wrote with Brady Seals, and Josh Shilling joined us as a co-writer on this song, “Southernism” as well. It’s all things south in this tune. Brady included this song on his recent album “Misfits”.
HEALTH NOTES
The US is seeing a promising drop in women’s deaths during childbirth after reaching its highest level in 50 years.
Scientists are saying that someday it might be possible that one day coffee might help activate a cancer treatment inside your body.
A new study suggests that 7 hours and 18 minutes of sleep is needed to lower your Type 2 diabetes risk.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Guys, I think we just got put on notice.
A LITTLE GAME
How about the smallest arcade game ever built?
It broke the Guinness World Record for the smallest ever. You can play Space Invaders on it. Apparently, some guy in India got bored one day and went to work on it. I think I’ll wait for one that lets you play Donkey Kong.
A MEDAL’S WORTH
Folks in the auction world were surprised when a silver medal from the first modern Olympic Games sold for $179,920. They thought it might go for somewhere in the $30,000 range.
The first games were played in Athens in 1896. I would have thought it would have sold for even more. Goes to show what I don’t know.
NASHVILLE SPHERE
Word is that Nashville could be one of the next cities to get a Sphere like the one in Las Vegas.
Cool. I’ve had more than one of my friends fly to Vegas to see the Eagles perform in the Sphere. They raved about the experience.
Bring it on.
UNCLAIMED BAGGAGE
Folks leave some weird things on planes that go to unclaimed baggage. Things like a prosthetic leg, a gold bar, lots of clothing. But how does one forget to take THIS off the plane?
Believe it or not, that’s a purse some woman left behind.
Before I throw any stones, I have to admit, I left my laptop computer in the seat pocket on a flight once to Montrose, Colorado. I left it in Denver when I transferred to another plane. When I got to my room, I panicked when I realized it was not with me. I was luckier than some.
I called the Denver airport, and they gave it to a pilot who was coming to Montrose; he hand-delivered it to the Montrose airport with a note saying he knew how he would feel.
Folks, check your seat, take your belongings when you’re getting off a plane.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Unknown:
“I don’t believe in reincarnation, and I didn’t believe it when I was a hamster.”
TODAY
I’m off to write with my buddy Alex Miller today.
Alex will be joining me, Jerry Salley, and Kristy Cox on March 25 at the Station Inn for the Tin Pan South Songwriter Festival. That’s going to be a really fun show.
Have a great Thursday!
