Friday morning, and the weekend is on us.
It’s warming up for a couple of days in Nashville before the temperatures drop again. Today’s high will be 69 with lots of sunshine.
YESTERDAY
I wrote a fun, traditional country song with Alex Miller and Jason Byrd. Both of these artists love the “real” country stuff, and I’m always happy to jump into the middle of a song like that. Jason had the title, and Alex had a great groove going on the idea, and sent it to me the night before. By the time they got to the publishing company, I had a pretty good head start on the lyrics.
Jason comes into town from Tallahassee, Florida, about once a month, and writes for a week with writers in Nashville.
He was already writing with Alex Miller, so Jason asked to pull my friend into this session, and I’m glad he did.
Fun day again at the songwriting table.
DELIVERY BOY
I turned into one yesterday afternoon as I delivered a couple of the books my wife wrote to some musical friends who are going out on tour and will have time to read “Subtle Frequency.”
It really is a page turner of a book, and if you haven’t gotten your copy yet, it’s available on Amazon and anywhere you buy your books. Order yours online so I don’t have to show up at your door as the “delivery boy.”
Thank you.
SONG OF THE DAY
This is a “live” version of my friend Lauren Mascitti singing “Look Who’s Crying Now” at the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival a few years ago. One of my favorite traditional country songs that I’ve been a part of. It surely helps when someone as vocally gifted as Lauren sings one of your songs. If you like your country singers who have a little “cry” in their voice, then check out the performance at the link above.
I’ll be joining Lauren with her full band as a musical guest next Saturday evening, March 21, at the world-famous Station Inn. Come see us if you’re in town.
HEALTH NOTES
The Swiss chocolate company Lindt claims that chocolate sales are rising faster among U.S. users of weight-loss drugs than among the rest of the population.
In a recent clinical drug trial, participants who took the highest daily dose of an epilepsy drug had nearly 50 percent fewer breathing interruptions while sleeping.
Cancer death rates in the UK have fallen to their lowest level on record. Good news there.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
You do the math.
FLYING TAXI
Those are getting closer to reality. Yesterday, one flew over San Francisco in a test flight.
Word is that there will be commercial flights available in Texas, Florida, California, and New York later this year. Electric flying taxis. Wow. Wonder if someday we’ll have Uber electric taxis that we can call?
SPEAKING OF FLYING
There are airplane yoga exercises you can do when you’re flying, according to a yoga expert. True. However, if I’m on a flight and somebody next to me gets down in the aisle doing this yoga pose, I’m going to request another flight.
ONE MORE AIRPLANE THING
They nabbed a bug smuggler trying to get on a flight in Kenya. He was trying to board with over 2,000 ants. Can’t imagine why they arrested the guy.
FRIDAY THE 13TH
That would be today. Someone once wrote, “I’m more scared of the people who are afraid of Friday the 13th than Friday the 13th.” Can I get an amen?
DRIVING MAP
Google Maps is going to give us 3-D images when we drive with their new modifications.
And instead of saying things like, “turn left at the next whatever, it could say, “turn left at the McDonald’s.” Pretty cool. Check out this VIDEO to see what it will look like.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Jerome K Jerome:
“I like work. It fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.”
TODAY
I’m writing with my fiddle-playing, mandolin-playing, guitar-playing, singing friend Addie Levy, who’s a member of the popular California band, the Brothers Comatose.
And she’s bringing her talented fiddle-playing friend, Ella Hennessee, who is out on the road sawing on her fiddle for Pam Tillis.
This will be the second time we’ve written together.
SATURDAY NIGHT
I’m playing a dinner-show with my “Hits & Grins” trio with Steve Dean, and Victoria Venier out at Starstruck Farms inside the Grand Ole Barn. Showtime is 7 pm.
Tickets are still available, so if you can, come join us for the food and fun.
Have a great weekend!
