Thursday morning it is. We had a little storm roll through yesterday, enough to knock our power off…again. This time it was just a couple of hours instead of over 6 days like it did a few weeks ago during the ice storm. I kind of think if you have no power for over 6 days, that should be your quota for the year.
Temperatures dropped after the storm. So much so that I plugged a space heater back in this morning. The high will get up to 54 today. But come Monday, the high will only be 36 with a low of 23 Monday evening. Spring hasn’t quite arrived yet.
YESTERDAY
I rewrote a song with Victoria Camp and Kennedy Scott at my publishing company.
A few months ago, we wrote a really “out there” fun tune titled “Music Row”. Kennedy loves the song, but thought we should write it completely differently this time to try and make it more commercial.
Turned out to be a great idea. Now, we have a version that would be great fun to sing in a “live” concert, but we now have one that we can pitch to other musical artists. A productive day at the publishing company for sure.
RELEASE DAY
Today is the official release day for the song “Tennessee Breeze” from bluegrass singer Lori King, from Iowa, that I had the pleasure of writing with Adam Pope. Pretty cool tune. Check it out. And thank you Lori for recording it.
NEW SHOW
This will be an honor. On May 18, I’ll travel to Marion, Illinois, with my songwriter-friend Bill DiLuigi, and the two of us will do a little mini-concert for 85 veterans who will be returning from taking the Honor Flight to DC. And we should be with others at the airport to welcome them home, before our show that Monday night.
The two of us will certainly be doing a couple of the songs we’ve written during our Freedom Sings USA retreats that we’ve been to in Marion. The last time I was in Marion, Art Fager presented me with a U.S. flag that flew over his compound in Baghdad when he was a captain over 151 young men from that part of Illinois. All but one young soldier made it home
I’ll certainly be performing Art’s song, which is titled “151”.
I’m looking very forward to this event.
SONG OF THE DAY
Kristy Cox will be part of our musical 4-some of songwriters performing at the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival on March 25 at the Station Inn.
So, here’s a song I wrote with Jimmy Fortune and Sydni Perry that Kristy recorded, “So Many Rainy Days.”

GIFT BAGS
At the Oscars this year, coming up this Sunday, celebrities will receive a gift bag worth $350,000. For free! Luggage, trips, beauty products, and more are all stuffed in the bags.
I got to do this one time in my life, and here’s that story.
I was covering the CMA Awards in Nashville one year for radio station WUBE in Cincinnati, where I was hosting the morning show at the time. We set up at Emerald Studios on Music Row, with several other country radio stations, and broadcast for 3 days. The organizers brought country stars by to be interviewed. Fun.
One evening, the organizers put up a tent with tables full of stuff, and each broadcaster who was there could pick up one item and take it home. I honestly can’t remember what I chose, but I remember that my on-air partner at the time, Amanda Orlando, chose this.
It’s a Chinese instrument called an “Erhu”. Two strings and a bow. And unless you really know how to play it? It’s pretty annoying. I’m sure Amanda annoyed her family with it when she got home.
FUNNY HEADLINE
From the Babylon Bee folks again.
In Honor Of Women’s History Month, The Nation’s Thermostats Set To 80 Degrees.
BIG FOOT
He’s everywhere. Since last Friday, folks in northeast Ohio have reportedly seen 7 Big Foots taking a stroll. Some residents say that their dogs have been shaking in fear. Uh huh.
I don’t know, I tend to be a little skeptical about Bigfoot existing myself.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Jerry Seinfeld:
“A two-year-old is kind of like having a blender, but it doesn’t have a top for it.”
TODAY
I’m in the writing room today with Jason Byrd for the first time. Jason grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, and was a third-generation firefighter before deciding to chase his dreams in Nashville.
And my buddy Alex Miller is going to join us. A Florida boy, a Kentucky kid, and a Missouri guy are all in the same writing room today. Should be fun…and COUNTRY.
Have a great Thursday!
