Hump Day…Wednesday arises, and we’ll have sunshine with a high of 76 to look forward to today in Music City.
YESTERDAY
I was online yesterday with bluegrass great Tim Stafford, who was at home in Knoxville, and instead of writing a bluegrass song as we normally do, we wrote a song that’s more of a country ballad.
Tim is a member of the often-rewarded and highly acclaimed bluegrass band that is “Blue Highway”, and they’ve been together since 1994. That’s a long time for any band.
The band just released its latest album, which is a collection of some of its favorites over the years.
One of those is the band’s new single, “Tears Fell On Missouri”, my home state! Tim also confirmed to me yesterday that he will be recording more than one of our co-writes on his own solo album that he’s getting ready to record. Some great news there.
Always, always fun creating with Tim.
DAILEY AND VINCENT
I’m pretty darned excited to be a writer with Laura Leigh Jones on the next single to be released on the upcoming Dailey & Vincent album. “Moon Shines On The Still” will be released to radio on April 10. And yesterday, a press release-articles came out about the new album.
Wait until you hear. You won’t believe how amazingly fast the musicians play on this song. Can’t wait for everyone to hear this.
ALSO ON APRIL 10
Alex Miller will release the song “Memories & Gin” that we wrote together as his next single off his upcoming new album that I also have the title track on.
And here’s a little VIDEO tease of that new country song. I’ll be seeing Alex tonight at the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.
AND…
I also found out that my friend and independent country artist Scott Southworth just released a new “live” album, and included a song we wrote together that was a single for him a few years ago, titled "Less to Break". This one was recorded in a great club up in Louisville with Scott and his Honkytonk Anonymous Band. Thank you for putting our song on a SECOND album, Scott.
So, let’s make Scott’s song our “Song of the Day”. Here’s “Less To Break.”
HEALTH NOTES
Wegovy is promising greater weight loss with a higher-dose shot they now have, which has been approved by the FDA.
A trial found that eating just one cup of black beans or chickpeas a day for 12 weeks led to meaningful improvements in cholesterol and inflammation, two key markers of cardiometabolic health.
Health folks are saying a new COVID strain is spreading that may be able to evade protection from current vaccines.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Makes sense, doesn’t it? Push!
PLAY BALL!
Opening Day for my Reds is tomorrow. I’m hoping they’ll let me pitch a game again this year!
It ain’t cheap going to the ballpark anymore. Get this. The Dodgers have won back-to-back World Series, and with their expensive roster of stars, most are picking them to win it again. Here’s what it will cost a family of 4 to go see a game at Dodger Stadium this year. $413.36. Yikes.
That includes parking ($45 just for that), four tickets, two beers, two sodas, and 4 hot dogs. I’m not sure how families afford that. Go see my Reds. For a family of 4, it’s $215.20. About half of what it costs to see the Dodgers.
If you’re curious, you can check out the cost for every baseball stadium in this ARTICLE from the New York Times.
YUCK…SPIDERS
Spiders the size of a human hand are spreading across the US, according to those who know about all things spider. This one is the Joro spider, and one of the states it has inhabited is Tennessee. Good grief.
FUNNY HEADLINE

“Airport Wait Times Eliminated After TSA Checkpoints Taken Over By Chick-Fil-A.”
A DIFFERENT WORLD
When you read the news, sometimes you end up shaking your head, thinking just that, it’s a different world. Like the story about how Pope Leo just held an “Exorcist Summit” over fears of worldwide satanism. Different world.
THRILLER
Jaffar Jackson is playing his famous Uncle Michael Jackson in a new movie about Michael that will hit theaters on April 24. Here’s a peek at what that will look like in this TRAILER.
LATE NIGHT TV
Actor Vince Vaughn is saying what many think when he said that “people stopped watching late-night shows because they traded comedy for a political lecture.”
Nope, it’s not a Johnny Carson late night show anymore where the goal was to be entertaining.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From former Yankee manager Joe Girard:
“The elevator to success is out of order. You’ll have to use the stairs, one step at a time.”
TODAY
It’s all about getting ready to play at the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival this evening. I have a 9 pm show at the world-famous Station Inn here in Nashville with my good friends and co-writers, Jerry Salley, Kristy Cox, and Alex Miller. If you’re in town, tickets are still available.
Have a great Wednesday!
