It’s another Monday morning. Well, we sprung forward. And with spring upon us, it’s tornado season. Over the weekend, multiple deaths from twisters touched down in places like Michigan and Oklahoma. Scary time of the year.
We are expecting 73 to be our high in Nashville today.
THE WEEKEND
What a great show our “Hits & Grins” trio, with Steve Dean, Victoria Venier, last Friday night in Huntsville, Alabama, at the Jim Parker Songwriter Series.
It’s always fun playing at this great series that songwriter-singer Jim Parker established many years ago. The shows are held in a gorgeous theater.
Jim was under the weather and could not join us on stage. We missed him in our songwriter round, but still had the best time. We had a wonderful crowd who really got into the original songs and stories we shared Friday night.
Thank you, Jim, for having us once again.
NICE TO SEE
“Blue Collar Gospel”, the song that Jerry Salley recorded with the Oak Ridge Boys well over a year ago, is still being played. This is the song I wrote with Jerry and our friend Rick Lang that was the title track for Rick’s last album.
It showed up at #23 this week on the CVM Gospel Bluegrass chart this week.
I’m proud to be part of this song for sure, as it’s the last song Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys ever recorded before he passed.
UP NEXT
This Saturday night, our trio will be in Lebanon, Tennessee, at Starstruck Farms, the estate once owned by Reba McEntire, for a dinner-show.
If you’re in town, come out and join us.
SONG OF THE DAY
This is a “live” unplugged version of the song “Buckaroo Lullaby” from Paul Bogart. Just him and a couple of members of his band sitting on the couch playing part of the tune. Paul asked me to write about his firstborn son, Jett. I LOVE cowboy music, so it was so great helping him write something so personal in a cowboy way.
If you would like to hear the recorded version from his album “Leather”, click HERE.
HEALTH NOTES
A new study claims that brain aging may accelerate after cancer treatment.
Doctors seem to agree that we should not take long, hot showers. They warn that it can compromise the skin-barrier.
Sacramento, California, health officials are warning of a potential viral explosion after more than 100 children were possibly exposed to measles at an educational enrichment program.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
JAWS
Geez. In 2025, there were 125 deadly unprovoked shark attacks around the globe. Nobody seems to know why. I don’t know why the sharks are so upset, but it’s enough to make me think about dipping my toes in the pool instead of the ocean.
JOKE
A recent study finds that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.
MR. BUNNY
The numbers are in. Despite all the noise, the controversial Bad Bunny Super Bowl Halftime Show this year was the most-watched…ever.
That’s it, I’m changing my stage name to Silly Squirrel.
EXPENSIVE PETRO
That happened in California over the weekend. Save up to fill up if you live on the West Coast.
CAMELS
Get this. At this year’s Camel Beauty Contest in Oman (yes, it exists), 20 camels were kicked out of the competition for using fillers and Botox. On camels! Unreal. And to tell ya the truth, even after adding collagen to a camel’s lips? They are still not all that attractive, y’all.
STILL LOST
It’s been 89 years since Amelia Earhart disappeared with her plane, and they are still trying to find her. One of the great mysteries ever. With the technology that exists today, they would have found her. Still hard to imagine that to this day, she’s still lost.
RETIREMENT
Get this. A survey revealed that most Americans believe they need 1.4 million dollars to retire comfortably. Of course, most do not have anywhere near that amount. But data also shows that those who work with a financial advisor more than DOUBLE their retirement savings compared to those who don’t use one. Big difference.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Oscar Wilde:
“Be yourself, everyone else is taken.”
TODAY
I’m on the way back home to Missouri today to give the eulogy at a dear friend’s funeral. Joe Lewis was the morning guy at KPCR Radio in Bowling Green, Missouri, where I also worked. It was my first radio job at the age of 18. He had a gift for bringing joy and laughter to his listeners every morning on his radio show. I think a lot of him rubbed off on me.
Have a great Monday.
