A Music Gift...Real Cowboy Stuff...Great Speech

BILL BLOG

It’s Tuesday! And there’s a spring-like day ahead with the temperature getting up to 73 degrees with sunshine today.

YESTERDAY

Mutt Cooper came to town from Georgia. Mutt served in the Army, and these days he’s a therapist for veterans who need help down at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. And he’s one of the songwriters who sometimes joins our Freedom Sings USA organization that writes songs with our veterans.

And…he’s a songwriter and guitar picker, and pretty good “finger picker” at that.

Yesterday, the two of us wrote an up-tempo bluegrass-gospel song that was fun. It was good to see him.

A MUSICAL GIFT

I opened my email yesterday and found a musical gift. It was the duo Dailey & Vincent singing a song I wrote with my friend Laura Leigh Jones that will be included on the new Dailey & Vincent album that will be out in a few months. And the boys just absolutely slayed our song. So good. I played it over and over again yesterday after receiving it.

I’m a big fan of this duo, and to have them record a song I helped write is just way cool. I can’t share it yet, but soon. Thank you, Dailey & Vincent, for choosing this song I wrote with Laura, and to my friend Robert Filhart for pitching it to the boys!

SONG OF THE DAY

Congratulations to my cowboy buddy and co-writer Paul Bogart.

The boy can flat-out ride and rope.

I love cowboy music, and Paul sings a lot of those kinds of songs with his band. And this is one that we wrote together with another talented musician, Zach Runquist, one day on Music Row, “All That Cowboy Jazz”. Click the link, listen to the song, and watch the video that’s all “cowboy” stuff.

HEALTH NOTES

According to research, adults 65 and older who consumed about three tablespoonfuls of peanut butter for six months improved their performance on a key lower-body function test compared to a control group.

Nearly half of colorectal cancer diagnoses are now in people younger than 65.

New research suggests that people who eat a lot of fiber spend more time in deep sleep.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Good thing, because golfers have to play it where it lies.

SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE

An AI search reveals some common traits of successful people.

Goal-oriented, strong work ethic and discipline, calculated risk-taking, integrity, and emotional intelligence all make that list.

Another AI search looking for traits of UNSUCCESSFUL people reveals these traits.

Making constant excuses, avoiding accountability, and resisting change.  And then there's this.

HERE’S TO MORE OF THIS

I did not watch any of the SAG awards the other night. But I did find this highlight of actor Harrison Ford’s acceptance speech for the Lifetime Achievement Award. He did not mention politics. He was humble, and thankful, and entertaining all at the same time. I think if more actors followed his example, folks might start watching the awards show more than they do now. If you’ve not seen it, here’s the VIDEO.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Rodney Dangerfield:

I told my Doctor I broke my arm in two places. He said, " Stay out of those places.”

TODAY

I’ll be rhyming with one of my favorite writer-singers today. That would be Andrea Pearson. The writing with her is great, but getting to hear her sing the songs we write?  Bonus.

Have a great Monday!
