Wednesday, the first “Hump Day” in March. A spring-like day on tap for sure with sunshine and a high of 76 in Nashville.
YESTERDAY
I had the pleasure of writing something really fun yesterday with Andrea Pearson. A relationship idea that Andrea brought with her, and we had a blast chasing that idea into a new song.
Andrea is a busy girl. Raising two young girls, constantly in the recording studio as she’s an in-demand background vocal singer in Nashville, writing songs, and performing. AND…she’s a heck of a painter as well, and is regularly commissioned to paint something like this.
It occurred to us that, as long as we’ve been writing together, we have yet to do a show together, so she’s going to work on that. Stay tuned.
Fun rhyming with her yesterday.
A LOSS
I lost a dear friend yesterday in Joe Lewis, who was the morning radio announcer in Bowling Green, Missouri, at the radio station in a cow pasture, where I had my very first radio job at KPCR.
Joe was more than just an influence; he remained one of my dearest friends through all of these years. While my radio career took me all over the country, Joe stayed in Bowling Green and was beloved by all who listened to him and or knew him. And that’s a lot of folks.
He was a master of telling tall tales. He would combine his strawberry crop every Spring. (So he said) He constantly picked on his wife, and now, his widow Rosie, when he was on the radio. And he, and the station owner, Paul Salois, were responsible for the “Mo Mo The Missouri Monster" song you’ve read about on this blog that took me to Nashville the first time to record that record. Joe and Paul wrote the poem that turned into this.
A few years ago, I went back to the area to perform “Mo Mo” on its 50th Anniversary. And though he was not in the greatest health, Joe was there, and I got him on stage, and he made folks laugh once again…and me too.
His wife and daughter both shared the sad news with me yesterday. My heart goes out to them, the rest of his family, and the MANY who loved this man, as I did.
SONG OF THE DAY
If you need a dose of “wholesome,” check out this song, “I Am Thankful,” that I co-wrote with Kevin Williamson a few months ago. The link will take you to a live performance of this song that features Kevin’s talented family, known as Williamson Branch. Three daughters, Mom, and Kevin are all singing on this one. This one will probably be on the family’s new album that they are currently working on.
HEALTH NOTES
A new study concludes that older adults who avoid meat in their golden years may be less likely to reach the age of 100 than their meat-eating counterparts.
A study from Japan found that babies born to moms who were physically active before and during pregnancy were more likely to reach developmental milestones early, especially in their first year of life.
Another study reports that Erythritol, a widely used low-calorie sweetener, is linked to an increased chance of having a stroke.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Some big-time gravel there.
PETRO
Gas prices just had the biggest jump in price in a single day in 3 years. Tied to the war going on. Hard not to notice the difference when you fill up at the pump.
I’m back to doing what I did during 2020 when COVID hit. I take the mask they made us wear and put it up over my eyes, so I can’t see the price at the pump.
BIG OLE EASTER BUNNY
Oh, you need one of these. Costco is selling a 10-pound chocolate easter bunny for $140.
The instructions read, “Wrap in a towel and hit it with a hammer to enjoy.”
Now, I don’t really NEED a 10-pound chocolate bunny, but…I might buy one just so I can have fun whacking it with a hammer.
SPRING BREAK
It’s already broken out early in some beach locations as beach communities brace themselves for that.
The first time I remember leaving my home state of Missouri was on a Senior Trip at Spring Break time. Our bus full of Elsberry High Seniors went to Daytona Beach. It was my first time seeing the ocean. And, it was my first taste of beer.
We had a couple of very cool chaperones who stopped, I want to say in Georgia, where the drinking age was 18. Several of the seniors got their first taste. I remember thinking it tasted like soap, and I really didn’t care for it. It doesn’t taste like soap anymore.
There were some fun sunburns; it got a little loud in the motel rooms at night, but other than that, everyone had a great time.
To the kids going on spring break this year, is…take some SPF.
WHO WANTS THIS STUFF?
TAKE YOUR HEADPHONES
United Airlines can boot any passenger who doesn’t use headphones when playing music or making noise. Dang. I guess that means I can’t take this onboard with me any longer.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Pablo Picasso:
“I’d like to live like a poor man…only with money.”
TODAY
Nothing big on the calendar. That means with the beautiful weather, some yard work is on tap as we have lots of clean-up work to do after that ice storm that downed so many limbs and trees in our yard.
Have a great Wednesday!
