Friday morning, and we’re headed for the weekend.
It was balmy in Nashville yesterday with the temperatures up in the 70’s. 62 will be the high today, and come Monday morning, the high will be a cold 31. Yo-Yo weather. Could be worse.
Illinois had a tornado touch down last evening, the Midwest saw a lot of severe weather, and Florida is getting hit with a “bomb cyclone” that will drop temperatures in the Sunshine State into the 20’s and 30’s. Don’t let one of these hit you in the head.
On the positive side, Spring Training baseball is about to happen, and in a couple of weeks, we Spring forward.
YESTERDAY
Another day of rest and recovery from the flu. So many folks I know are down with it, and it seems to be a strain that drags on way too long, at least for me. Getting a bit better, though.
I did watch the U.S. Women’s Hockey team beat Canada in some kind of exciting overtime game to win the Gold. I texted back and forth a bit during the game with my friend Rob Bellamy out east, whose sister won a gold medal on the U.S. team when they beat Canada in Korea. That was fun. Congrats to those girls for not giving up, as they scored a tying goal with just a couple of minutes left in regulation, and then got the winner in 3 on 3 play in overtime. It was a good way ease some of the flu symptoms yesterday afternoon.
SONG OF THE DAY
Spring Break is just around the corner, starting in a few weeks. A lot of beach towns, including Gulf Shores, Alabama, where my friend Brent Burns lives, prohibit alcohol on the beach during Spring Break time.
And a lot of full-time beach town residents are not happy when the kids invade their towns, like my friend Brent Burns. And that’s the reason we wrote “Get Off Of My Beach,” which is today’s Song of the Day.
As fun as it was to write this song, we had even more fun recording it in Nashville. Listen and you’ll hear me and my friend Lang Scott singing, or shouting “get off of my (bleep) beach” in the song.
HEALTH NOTES
Los Angeles has the measles, too. LA County reported its 4th case yesterday. Meanwhile, South Carolina now has 962 cases.
According to new data, the median monthly cost for assisted living has decreased from $5,419 to $5,190 per month.
Here’s an example of how high-priced drugs can be in the country. An American woman visiting Italy found that her asthma drugs, which cost her $600 in the States, cost just $35 in Italy.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Pretty much true, isn’t it?
CRUISING
Those who like to cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines are upset because one now has to dress up for dinner in their restaurants when it has always been “casual” dining. No shorts or flip flops allowed.
So the Kenny Chesney hit, “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem,” is no longer accurate on a Norwegian ship.
My wife and I have cruised a few times. The first time was when I won a free cruise after being a winner on the old Fandango TV Show on TNN hosted by Bill Anderson. It was a country music trivia show, and I somehow won, competing against other radio broadcasters at the time.
There was always a “dress up” night, one night during any cruise I’ve been on. But given a choice? I’d always choose “informal”. In fact, the last time I put on a tie may have been on some cruise.
That’s why I love beach towns. And Nashville. No matter where you go here in Music City, or in a beach town, you rarely have to put on any kind of formal wear. For the most part, you can walk into a 4-star fancy schmancy place here in Nashville and see someone wearing jeans and boots.
THEY’RE OUT THERE
President Trump says he will release UFO and Alien files. Former President Barack Obama has already said the UFOs exist. Should be interesting.
Heck, I was in Roswell, New Mexico, once and didn’t see any aliens in the alien capital of the world, so I don’t know.
I do believe we are living in an age of “release the files,” though.
COST OF GAS
It’s still REALLY high in some states. AAA just released the top 5 states with the highest gas prices.
Nevada…$3.63 per gallon.
Oregon…$3.69
Washington…$4.15
Hawaii…$4.40
And in California, it’s $4.58 per gallon, on average.
The CHEAPEST 5 states to fill up in would be Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. In Oklahoma, it’s $2.29 per gallon.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Unknown:
“Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience”.
TODAY
A little more rest with this flu, mixed with some pre-work for my wife Kathy’s first book signing a week from tomorrow here in Nashville. We’re expecting a big turnout of friends and book fans.
Hope y’all have a great weekend!
