Trop Rock Songs...Funny Towns...Big Cave

BILL BLOG

Tuesday, February 24, 2026

Hello Tuesday morning. It’s just 22 degrees as I begin this blog this morning, but we’ll reach a high of 49 degrees and then continue to warm up for the rest of the week, eventually hitting 70-degree highs by the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Northeast is buried with record snow in some places. 350,000 folks without power, and we know that feeling here in Music City after the ice storm that rolled through here a couple of weeks ago.

YESTERDAY

I had to reschedule a writing appointment yesterday on short notice due to unforeseen circumstances. That opened up my day, and I spent some time producing some AI Trop Rock songs for my co-writer, Rick Lang, who wants these songs to be put on a CD that he can give to family and friends this Christmas. Pretty cool gift, and I’m happy he chose me to produce these. Fun.

SONG OF THE DAY

I’ve written my share of Trop Rock songs over the past several years. A whole bunch of those have been with my longtime beach buddy, Brent Burns, down in Gulf Shores.

This Trop Rock song was written with and recorded by Jesse Ritter, who lives just up the coast from Brent in Pensacola. An idea Jesse had that I loved that we wrote in her Grandma’s beach cabana in Pensacola one afternoon. Check out “My Favorite Color”. In this case, her favorite color is the sunset. Here's a "Live" VERSION of the song, just Jesse and her guitar, telling the story of how we wrote the song that day in beautiful Pensacola.

HEALTH NOTES

With the huge, heavy snowfall in the east, experts are warning that the heavy snow is a recipe for serious heart attack risk, for all the reasons you can think of.

New research shows that those who are dealing with cancer (40% of us will have cancer) that meditation twice a day could keep chronic stress in check and reduce the risk of the illness growing and spreading.

The numbers are in. 45% of us are drinking less these days.

 HERE’S YOUR SIGN

 Amen to that.

ODDLY NAMED CITIES

There are some. Like this one.

 And this one.

 One more.

Oh, and this one for sure.

STATE OF THE UNION

Last year, President Trump’s State of the Union address went on for 1 hour, 39 minutes, and 32 seconds. That set a record for the longest address in history. So, if you’re one to watch tonight? Make PLENTY of popcorn. And maybe keep some No Doze handy in case.

BIG CAVE

Son Doong Cave is the biggest cave in the world. It’s in Vietnam. It’s so big it has it’s own climate, fog, and drifting clouds.

And the cave goes on for 5.6 miles. That’s a big cave y’all.

I’m not a big “let’s go see a cave” guy. But, growing up back in Missouri on one property we lived on for a while, there was a small cave. And my two brothers and I were down in it a lot. Made me feel like Tom Sawyer.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From good ole Anonymous:

Life is a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap”.

TODAY

I’m off to write with Jenny Tolman and Dave Brainard this morning. One of my very favorite musical couples to write songs with.

And then I'm going to  get a nap.

Have a great Tuesday!
