Friday morning is here with Super Bowl weekend in front of us. 54 degree high in Music City today.
YESTERDAY
It was all about the Bluebird Café last night, and my songwriter show with three talented friends.
There was a packed house, as always, as every show at this incredible listening room is always sold out. Folks from all over the country were there.
The hour-and-a-half show always flies by because everyone is having so much fun. My “Hits and Grins” buddy Victoria Venier opened our show with a song titled “In Memphis” that we wrote with our trio partner Steve Dean, and we were off and running.
I went second and opened with a song about our power company, and I explained how a lot of Nashvillians feel about them after the ice storm that STILL has some without electricity two weeks later. Here are the lyrics.
Dear NES
What the heck?
My power left, my feet turned blue
Here’s to the linemen
And the line women too
But dear NES…FU
I was afraid after singing that, that my power would be shut off again, but it was on when I got home.
Lauren Mascitti followed me and did a couple of songs we wrote together, and as always, her personality and voice just slayed the crowd.
And then Brady Seals closed us out last night with his huge hit “God Blessed Texas” from his days with the Little Texas Band.
My wife Kathy came last night, and wound up selling a couple of her books!
Just an incredible evening full of highlights and memories. My friend and former publisher Joe Dan Cornett was in the crowd with his wife Emily and caught this little MOMENT of Brady Seals closing out the evening with God Blessed Texas. Thank you, Joe Dan. And thank you to the Bluebird, and its staff for creating such a wonderful place for songwriters to show off what they do
SONG OF THE DAY
Since Brady Seals was in my musical round last night at the Bluebird, here’s another one he and I wrote, along with our friend Josh Shilling, that he put on his “Misfits” album titled “Southernism”. A song about all the things folks in the south do and like.
HEALTH NOTES
Some of the women’s Olympic hockey games in Italy were cancelled yesterday due to a flu outbreak.
Japanese scientists say they’ve created a drug that can “reset” the internal clock forward, dramatically shortening jet lag recovery time in mice, and perhaps eventually, in humans.
The United Health Group just released its list of the healthiest states. Those are: Utah, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, and the number 1 for health is the state of New Hampshire. Not so healthy here in Tennessee, as we rank #44.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Gotcha, Mom, we’ll leave you alone for a bit.
SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL
Check this one out from Jeep. Billy Bass meets a Grizzly Bear. WATCH.
SPEAKING OF THE OLYMPICS
Now THIS should be an official Olympic sport. Skillet curling!
The cast-iron skillet competition takes place every year in Chattanooga, Tennessee. And I love some of the team names like Cornbread and Butterbeans, and the team named Wu Tang Pans.
My kind of sporting event for sure.
A DANGED FOOT
How about this Michelangelo painting of a foot?
That drawing just fetched 27 million dollars at auction. For a foot. Or as one person pointed out, that’s 5.4 million per toe. It brought 20 times more than experts thought it would. I don’t understand high-priced art…never will. But I’m going draw a picture of my hand today and put it up on eBay to see what it brings.
MORE ON AI
Fake AI videos are everywhere on our socials. It’s such a big deal that you can find articles that try to help you recognize a fake one. One expert says to look for blurred images, infrequent or unusual blinking, and to look for and unnatural hair and teeth.
Heck, there are even AI-generated preachers these days. Here’s a short CLIP of one of those.
And be on the lookout for an AI-generated Super Bowl ad that will air this Sunday.
Guess I need to figure out a way to AI generate this Blog.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From actress Carrie Fisher…who actually said…
“Instant gratification takes too long.”
TODAY
My wife and I are making a trip over to Gatlinburg to see our friends Linda Davis and Lang Scott play at Dolly’s DreamMore Hotel in a Winter Concert Series at the hotel, where we will stay for a couple of nights. I played the resort a few years ago, some kind of place Dolly built.
They are doing two shows, tonight and tomorrow, and I have a feeling I might sit in as they said, “bring your guitar” when they extended the invitation last night.
And then Sunday, we’ll be home, and I’ll be on the couch watching the Super Bowl like most of the rest of the country.
Have a great weekend!
