My Pilot...New Shows...Mardi Gras

BILL BLOG

Tuesday, February 17, 2026

Tuesday morning arises. Cloudy and 63 today in Nashville. Meanwhile, those weather folks are saying the Midwest could see a 15-inch snowstorm. And they were just getting over a big one.

YESTERDAY

I did a little catch-up work yesterday, AND I received this nice picture of me and Commander Tom Sullivan, a 27-year Air Force pilot, 5 years flying in battle in Vietnam. I wrote Tom’s story into a song last week in Indiana, where he and his wife Cathy live.

What a story. I mentioned this in the Blog on Friday. His song is titled “All I Wanted To Do”.

He went to Ball State College, heard the ROTC program offered flying lessons, and “all he wanted to do was learn to fly”. And he did. 27 years for our country.

Thanks for this picture, and for your service, Commander!

BONUS

I also spent a little time with my Doctor who gave me some stuff for the crud I’ve got right now. She told me it was exactly a year ago that I had seen her and got a shot for the same thing. Geez. I might as well set an appointment for next year.

The good news is…I did get a free sucker.

NEW SHOWS

My talented friend Lauren Mascitti called and asked if I would be her special guest on March 21 at the Station Inn here in Nashville. Yes, I will. About once a month, Lauren plays with a full band at the iconic venues, so I have to figure out what songs to sing with a band. Most of the time, I just play solo, so this will be a little different, and I’m sure great fun. It’s a late show that starts at 9 pm, so I’ll bring a coffee maker.

MORE STATION INN

I’ll be playing the Tin Pan South Songwriter Festival this year at the world-famous Station Inn along with my friends Jerry Salley, Kristy Cox, and Alex Miller at 9 pm.

It will be an all-Billy Blue night, as all of us either write or record for Billy Blue Records. This is a great songwriter festival that spans several nights and venues throughout town. If you’re in town, please join us for our show. More information to come later.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since both Kristy Cox and Jerry Salley will be part of that show I just mentioned, here’s a song that Kristy recorded that she wrote with me and Jerry Salley, “Dirt Road”.

HEALTH NOTES

In a survey, people who take GLP-1 drugs say the side effects, gastrointestinal issues like nausea and constipation, are “worth it” for the weight loss.

A massive study says that moderate cannabis use may protect the aging brain.

The FDA recalled some farm-raised salmon sold at BJ’s Wholesale stores out east because of listeria concerns.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Say what?

I LOVE THE SMELL OF NAPALM IN THE MORNING

I was sorry to see that one of my favorite actors, Robert Duvall, passed away at the age of 95. He was always worth the price of the tickets to go see whatever movie he was in. He excelled in Western movies like “Open Range” and “Lonesome Dove”, but he was outstanding in “The Godfather” and was fun to watch in lighter fare movies like “Days of Thunder” with Tom Cruise.

And he once said, “We either accept weaknesses in good people, or we have to tear the pages out of the Bible.”

RIP.

Celebrity deaths often come in 2’s and 3’s sometimes.

Former Presidential candidate and civil rights leader Jesse Jackson also passed away at the age of 84. I always thought he sounded like a revival preacher when he spoke.

I’LL WEAR ONE
I’ll take one of these T-shirts. I’d be wearing the truth if I put this bad boy on!

TRAVELING

It’s getting a lot more expensive to travel these days. And here’s an example of why. Hotel rooms have increased their rates by 57% between 2020 & 2025. That means the cost of a hotel room went from about $103 to $162 per night.

Heck, even Motel 6 upped their price a bit!

POKEMON

How about boxer Logan Paul selling his rare Pokémon card at auction yesterday for a record 16.5 MILLION dollars?  Geez. He bought the card in 1990 for 5.275 million. That’s a pretty decent profit.

I have some Beanie Baby dolls if anyone is interested in making a bid.

WILD TURKEYS

So, a UPS driver in Connecticut gets out of his truck to deliver a package and is then attacked by a pack of wild turkeys. True story.

My favorite part of this story is when the driver said, “I’m 40 years old, I can’t be dealing with this.”

Yep, I’m pretty sure that’s not in the job description.

MARDIS GRAS

It’s going on in the south. I went to one Mardi Gras dinner party once with my wife Kathy, Brent Burns, and his late wife Pam at Lulu’s in Gulf Shores at Lulu’s, complete with a fun Mardi Gras Band.

My friend Brent is MUCH more into Mardi Gras than I am. So much so that last year, Gulf Shores chose Brent to be the Grand Marshall of the Mardi Gras Parade in Gulf Shores. And the theme of his float came from one of our songs, “Trailer Park Sexy”.

That’s Lulu Buffett with him in that picture, Jimmy’s sister, and owner of Lulu’s. Too funny.

“Let The Good Times Roll.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From actress Sandra Bullock

Whoever established the high road should be fired.

TODAY

A little rest and recuperation is the order of the day.

Have a great Tuesday!
