Wednesday, Hump Day, all day long.
YESTERDAY
I spent some time adding new shows to my calendar yesterday, between trying to rest to get over the flu that’s been spreading around. Happy to say I feel a little improvement this morning.
Four new Freedom Sings USA songwriter retreats went on the calendar, adding to two more events at the Station Inn here in Nashville.
The four Freedom events take place in Anna, Elmhurst, and Heyworth, Illinois. One other is in Durham, North Carolina.
There are several “Evening in the Round” shows with me, Linda Davis, and Lang Scott that will be added soon as well. As many as 10 to 15 all across the country.
It's shaping up to be another busy year. You can find all the show dates on the TOUR section of the the website.
SPEAKING OF FREEDOM SINGS
I just got this picture of our songwriter group that was in Greensburg last week, writing with veterans. Look at this crazy ride we rode to our show this past Thursday night.
And you can get one if you got $750,000 or so lying around. I bought two myself.
Left to right in front of this beast is Steve Dean, Bobby Tomberlin, me, Wil Nance, and Bill DiLuigi. Now that’s a way to pull up to a songwriter show!
GOOD NEWS
The new Alex Miller album, out April 10, will have two songs on it I helped write, including the title track, which is also the name of the album, “More Country Than You.” Love that. That song was a pretty big "fun" duet hit that I wrote with him and Emily Ann Roberts.
The second song is titled “Memories and Gin”, and this is what Music Row Magazine had to say about this song.
“Memories And Gin” sparks with tasty guitar licks, and lilting fiddle and steel, cementing Miller’s love of twang.”
Alex and I wrote this new song, and it does have some “twang” in it…just like he does. Happy to be part of his new album on Billy Jam Records.
ANOTHER NEW RELEASE
Here’s a clip of Payton Howie singing a part of a new song, “Truck Bed,” that
Brady Seals and I co-wrote with the young Texas artist a few weeks ago when she
was in Nashville. We found out this will be her next single to be released in a
few weeks. Check out the song at the link above.
ONE MORE NEW SHOW
Our “Evening in the Round” trio with Linda Davis, Lang Scott, and me will return to Stephens City, Virginia, again this year on December 5 for another “Faith, Love, and Laughter” concert at the Valley Bible Church. I think this will be the fourth time we’ve had the pleasure of doing this show in Virginia. And one of my favorite parts of this series is that one of the organizers, Rhonda DeHaven, always makes sure that there is mac and cheese at the pre-show meal!
Make plans to join us if you can.
SUBTLE FREQUENCY
I also spent some time sending out invitations to my wife Kathy’s first book signing, a private event that will be in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, on Saturday, February 28. So happy for her.
Remember, you can order one online right now, anywhere you buy books. And thanks to all who have already gotten their copy!
SONG OF THE DAY
I got word last week that Lori King, a bluegrass artist from Iowa, will be releasing a new song, “Tennessee Breeze,” as her next single to radio in a couple of weeks. It will be streaming everywhere on March 9. This is a song I wrote with my friend Adam Pope sometime last year. Good news there.
I can’t share that song yet, but this was another song of mine that she recorded that I wrote with Becky Buller, titled “Mercy of aTrain,” that will serve as our “song of the day”.
HEALTH NOTES
Minnesota has confirmed they have an outbreak of a sexually transmitted fungal infection. Experts are urging caution. Health officials there confirm 14 cases and 27 suspected cases.
A study warns that your bedroom temperature could be putting your heart in serious danger. Heat forces the cardiovascular system to work hard to circulate blood for cooling, according to experts. The temperature at which the heart began to show signs of disruption in the study is 75 degrees.
Here’s some great news. Cancer survival rates have reached new heights, with 70% of patients diagnosed hitting the five-year survival mark. And a new study reveals that a regular exercise program can help extend that life a few more years.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I don’t think I want a bowl.
KUNG FU
Guess whose kung-fu fighting these days?
Yep, Chinese robots. Take a look at this EXHIBITION.
I’m betting we’re going to see humanoid boxing and MMA fights in the Octagon sooner than later.
HARD TO BELIEVE
The Eagles’ “Greatest Hits” album is 50 years old! It is still the most successful album of all time. 10X platinum. Hard to imagine.
I’ll admit, they are my favorite all-time band. Their harmonies and arrangements slay me. I saw them “live” in Milwaukee once, when Glen Frey was still alive. I’ve seen a lot of concerts. That one is still by far my favorite concert experience.
DO-OVER
A plastic surgeon says that at least half of his work is revisions. Something too big is made smaller on the second visit, or something too small is made bigger. I guess. I’m pretty sure Mrs. Potato Head went back a second time to remove a little filling from her lips.
OLYMPICS
I have been on the couch in the evenings, watching the Winter Olympics from Italy as I recover from the flu. It’s been a nice tonic.
Every 4 years, I think I probably won’t watch much of the Olympic Games, but then I get hooked. So far this year, the oddest thing I’ve seen about the event is either Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart hanging out together at the Opera House.
Or, the pants the Norwegian men’s curling team wore during their event.
Now, if Snoop had worn THOSE pants into the Opera House, we’d have quite the TV moment.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Will Rogers:
“Even if you’re on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.”
TODAY
Another day of resting up and trying to kick what’s left of the crud I came down with this past Sunday.
Have a great Wednesday!
