Monday morning! And boy is it warming up. 68 for the high today, and up to 73 tomorrow!

Almost every resident in Nashville has their power back on now after that ice storm, and the warm temperatures are certainly welcomed by those that went day without heat and electricity.

THE WEEKEND

And what a great musical weekend it was.

After a great show at the Bluebird Café on Thursday…

My wife and I made our way over to Gatlinburg and Dolly’s beautiful DreamMore resort.

Our friends Linda Davis and Lang Scott were playing the winter concert series at the resort for the third or 4th year in a row, which is held in a heated tent just outside the hotel. And the heaters were working!

They asked me to bring my guitar, and I did, and they got me up at the end of each show on Friday and Saturday night, and we gave the crowd a little of our “Evening in the Round” show.

Two wonderful nights in one of Dolly’s beautiful hotels. If you plan on going to Pigeon Forge-Gatinburg-The Smokies, check out the DreamMore Hotel.

HALL OF FAME SHOW

On Sunday morning, my wife and I returned to the house just in time to reset and then visit our friends, Linda and Lang, at the beautiful Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

This time, their daughters, Hillary Scott and Rylee Jean, joined the family for a wonderful concert at the Ford Theater inside the Hall of Fame, which I’ve had the pleasure of playing a few times. It’s a terrific theater

And the place was packed with friends of theirs and tourists. Ricky Skaggs and his wife, Sharon White, sat right in front of my wife and me. Ricky produced the “Love Remains” album that won two Grammy Awards for the Scott Family.

The family did a couple of Lady A songs, the group Hillary is in, a couple of country classics, and yes, a couple of songs off the “Love Remains” album, including the stunning “Thy Will” that Hillary wrote.

So yes, we had quite the entertaining, musical weekend with dear and talented friends. And here’s a little “slide show” of pictures that my wife put together that give you another LOOK.

SUPER BOWL

I did watch the Super Bowl, or as one person put it, “The Borefest”. Seattle won, it was a “defensive” game, and the Seattle KICKER racked up 17 points. It’s going to be a boring game when a kicker racks up 17. I think the Charlie Puth version of the “National Anthem” may have been my favorite moment as he knocked that out of the ballpark.

How many days til baseball?

MORE TELLURIDE NEWS

This was great to see. The Caroline Owens hit “Telluride” is now #5 on the Bluegrass Today Grassicana Chart! Andrea Pearson and I wrote that song, and it’s been getting a lot of bluegrass airplay. So glad to be part of this one.

SONG OF THE DAY

Since I was with the “Scott Family” over the weekend, I’m sharing the song “Safe Haven” that they recorded on their Grammy-winning album “Love Remains”. Hillary is a co-writer on this song along with Jimmy Fortune and Sydni Perry. Hillary is singing the lead on this song, and the song is about her grandfather, whom she and the family lost to cancer. I'm more than blessed to be one of the writers on this song that has touched so many people.

HEALTH NOTES

Cases of autism are on the rise, with diagnoses in the US jumping 175% between 2011 and 2022.

New research suggests that family dinners may keep teenagers off drink and drugs.

A second measles case was reported at Disneyland over the weekend.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I think I’ll check into Tom Bodet’s place instead.

VALENTINE

Pressure guys. Valentine’s Day is just 5 days away. Geez. What to get her? I think I’ll go with this little Oreo Cookie dunker for my wife.

She doesn’t like real milk, doesn’t eat Oreo’s, but at least it won’t go to waste!

THE ECONOMY

Gas is now below 2 bucks a gallon in 9 states, and the Dow Jones has done the unthinkable and gone over 50,000. Wow.

Now if I can just order a normal bill at a restaurant for under $20…all will be well. And if I can find a downtown parking space for less than the $40 I paid yesterday on a Sunday, that would not hurt my feelings either.

SPEAKING OF NASHVILLE

Elon Musk is boring a couple of tunnels in Nashville to help ease the crazy congestion we have in this town.

Our Mayor said this about the project. “Ideal scenario: No one dies.’

Gosh, thank you, Mayor. I think I’ll walk to the airport.

WEDDING CROCS

Yep, they have those. The luxury designer Birkenstock is offering up these for brides.

The wedding crocs will cost you between $1,300 to as much as $3,500 for the “pearly” white crocs. Girls, think about getting married on the beach in your bare feet. Beautiful location, and you’ll save $3,500 by not wearing plastic on your feet.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From rock star Rod Stewart:

Instead of getting married again, I’m going to find a woman I don’t like and give her a house.”

TODAY

Back to the songwriting table. Today I’m with Alex Miller, fresh off a country music cruise. And Caroline Owens, whom I mentioned earlier, is going to join us.  Always fun writing with someone who loves true country music as much as this Kentucky kid does, and as much as Caroline does.

Have a great Monday!
