Tuesday morning it is. And it’s a packing day with a road trip to Indiana tomorrow.
We’re expecting a high of 74 today in Nashville, accompanied by some rain, and then we'll lose 20 degrees tomorrow, with a high temperature predicted to be 54.
YESTERDAY
I got together with a couple of young, talented artists, Alex Miller & Caroline Owens, to write a new song from an idea that Caroline sent ahead of time.
Though I have written with both many times, it was the first occasion we had to write together as a trio, and that pairing turned out to be a good idea, as the new bluegrass ballad we wrote turned out so well.
This also happened. Alex, who was just home from that Country Music Cruise, his first ever, had been keeping up with the ice storm back in Nashville, as my friends Linda Davis and Lang Scott kept him informed about my wife and me living through a week with no electricity. We lived by a gas fireplace and candles, and even learned to cook with candles. And that’s why Alex gifted me this. With a big smile on his face.
Now he thinks he’s a comedian!
THE BOOK
And then Caroline asked me to bring her a copy of my wife Kathy’s first book, “Subtle Frequency,” which is available worldwide online, and soon will be found in book stores worldwide.
So, I got a song and a candle yesterday, and Caroline got a book. A good, fun day at the publishing office.
SONG OF THE DAY
This is a fun song, “Stones,” that former Aussie Katrina Burgoyne recorded. Very sassy, and it was born from a title I brought into the writing room that day that she flipped over. All I had was the line, “You can’t be my rock, if you ain’t got the stones.” You can hear how that turned out by clicking the link above.
HEALTH NOTES
Researchers from Cambridge, Massachusetts, have found that coffee is beneficial for cognitive health. 130,000 people were in the study that revealed people drinking the most caffeinated coffee had an 18% lower risk of dementia than those who regularly drank little or no caffeine.
A new study suggests that intermittent eating could help ease Crohn’s disease symptoms.
Dr. Oz is now recommending that Americans to get the measles vaccine.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
I know both kinds, how about you?
OLYMPICS
Well, we’ve done it. The Americans have won their first gold ever in mixed doubles curling.
Go team USA. It does occur to me that men use a broom just as much as women do in the sport of curling. So there’s that.
And if “Curling” is an Olympic event, why can’t ice fishing be one as well? C’mon.
FUNNY SUPERBOWL POKE
The Babylon Bee folks wrote this headline about this year’s Super Bowl that the Seattle Seahawks dominated.
“Patriots Offensive Line Surprised To Learn Super Bowl Was Yesterday.”
Ouch, but kind of true.
Me? I’m wondering if, when you meet Bad Bunny, does anyone refer to him as “Mr. Bunny”?
BEST BEACH
Conde Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards has just named Pensacola Beach as their favorite beach in the country. You won’t get much argument from me. Gulf Shores to Pensacola is my favorite stretch of beaches for sure.
Years ago, I interviewed for the morning job at Cat Country Radio in Pensacola. They were just launching that radio station, so I would have been their first on-air morning guy there. I was all set to take that job when a better offer came in to return to Cincinnati and take a morning show position at B105 radio, where I had worked once before.
During my interview in Pensacola, they made sure to take me to lunch at a great restaurant with a view of the beautiful Pensacola Beach. Life works in mysterious ways sometimes. I’m pretty sure I would have been happy had I taken a radio job on the beach!
FOUR DAYS TO VALENTINE’S DAY
I struggle trying to find something my wife will like for Valentine’s Day. I know I’m not the only one. But, I DO know what NOT to get her.
Don’t do it, guys. No matter how funny you think that might be…just DON’T do it.
LET’S GO RACING BOYS!
The NASCAR season is about to start with the Daytona 500. The sport has lost some fans over the past few years, so NASCAR put together a pretty dang exciting trailer featuring actor Scott Eastwood to entice fans back to the tracks. And the trailer just might do it. Watch THIS.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From Wendell Johnson:
“Always and never are two words you should always remember to never use.”
TODAY
It’s a packing day, stuff in a suitcase, a guitar in a bag, as I head to Greensburg, Indiana, with Freedom Sings USA.
Our group of songwriters will be writing with veterans from that area near Cincinnati tomorrow night and Thursday at a beautiful place, Jawacdah Farms.
I always look forward to listening to a veteran tell me his story, and then turning that into a song. Never gets old.
Have a great Wednesday!
