BILL BLOG
Thursday January 15, 2026
And now it’s Thursday. 30 degrees will be the high here today. Then it drops back into the 30’s tomorrow, and then it remains there for the rest of the week. Up and down we go.
YESTERDAY
I hooked up with my long-time friend, former Little Texas member Brady Seals, yesterday to write with a newcomer from Texas named Payton Howie.
Payton lives just north of Houston, but comes to Nashville every couple of weeks to write, record, and chase the dream. It was great getting to know her, create with her, and listen to her sing. We co-wrote a very fun up-tempo song with a little lyrical edge to it from a title Brady had in his back pocket.
We laid it down in Brady’s little studio, and a couple of hours after Payton got to where she’s staying, she texted to say how much she loves it, and that this would be a song she would record.
So Brady and I are going to hold her to that!
Pretty good songwriting day when the artist gives you good news like that.
BLUEBIRD
Brady Seals will be joining me at the Bluebird Café on Thursday evening, January 5, alongside Victoria Venier and Lauren Mascitti. Should be a heck of a songwriters’ round that night, and it’s always a treat to sit in the circle at the Bluebird.
Remember, every show sells out instantly at the Bluebird. They go on sale one week before the show itself. So keep your phone close and call quickly, and often if you want a table. The ticket link and information for this show are here at this LINK.
KATHY BOOK
Gosh, if you’re not looking for my wife’s first book, “Subtle Frequency”, you’re just not looking. The book is seemingly everywhere worldwide and showing up in new places, new cities, and new book stores around the world every day, it seems.
Yesterday, my wife Kathy found that the book is in Mexico, the UK, India, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Spain, and France, and of course in a ton of book stores and online sites here in the States. Amazing.
And while the official release date is not until February 3rd, you can pre-order a copy in most any shape or form everywhere right now. And we sure hope you will. And share the news if you would!
INTERVIEW
I did an online interview for the Singing News Publication “Faith, Country & Bluegrass” series. My friend Kristen Bearfield, who recorded “Country Faith” that I wrote with her and Tim McGraw’s guitar player Bob Minner, sent me questions about songwriting, early influences, radio, and more. The article should be out sometime next month. I’ll let you know when and post a link when it comes out.
Hopefully, something I said in the interview helps a young songwriter.
SONG OF THE DAY
How about something that will make you laugh? That would be this Brent Burns recording titled “Resistible.”
The two of us laughed pretty hard the day we wrote this song. And then it REALLY got funny when my friend and musical road partner, Linda Davis, added her talent to this song. Listen for her trying hard not to throw up in the middle of this song. You heard me right. She was emphasizing the fact that my friend is pretty danged resistible.
HEALTH NOTES
Experts say that eating leftover pasta may be better for your blood sugar than consuming a fresh bowl. Apparently, cooling and reheating pasta creates resistant starch that acts like fiber in the gut.
Good news on the cancer front. Survival rates are the highest they’ve ever been. Still work to be done. The three deadliest forms of cancer this year will be lung, colorectal, and pancreatic.
Whole milk is headed back to school cafeterias for the first time in a long while.
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Oh, I do get that.
BEST FRENCH FRIES
An online food publication had their folks go out and eat French fries at a bunch of fast food restaurants, and then had them rank them.
They picked In-N-Out Burgers as the worst of their dozen picks.
Here’s their top 5 choices.
5…Five Guys
4…Chik-fil-A
3…Raising Canes
2…McDonald’s
And their FAVORITE fries are the seasoned ones at Checkers/Rally’s.
I’ve never stopped at a Checkers before. Might have to do that now and check out their French fries.
MONKEYS
Those danged monkeys are still on the loose in St. Louis. Can’t seem to catch them. Maybe the city with the Arch should adopt a Key West attitude and just let them roam around town. Just like Key West does with its roosters.
Maybe.
FUNNY CELEBRITY OBSERVATIONS
Cindy Adams, the NY Post columnist for like forever, attended the “National Board of Review” awards show. Here’s what she noticed in a room full of celebrities.
“Each female’s behind was smaller than a baseball. Only the waiters had stomachs. Bosoms extended to Alabama”.
Made me laugh.
VERIZON
Well, they finally got folks back up and running after a ton of customers lost service for 12 hours or more yesterday. The folks at Krispy Kreme noticed.
Today, from 5-7 p.m., you can get a free glazed donut to help “sweeten” up the pain, according to them. They had some fun with Verizon, saying, “We can hear you now, and we’re serving up.”
QUOTE OF THE DAY
From A.A. Milne:
“People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.”
TODAY
I’m off to write with Wil Nance’s little writing cabin this morning, where the talented Andrea Pearson will be joining us for the first time.
I write a lot with both of them, but this will be the first time writing together. Looking forward to it.
