Lotta Rain...Most Played Song of the Month...The Beatles

BILL BLOG

Friday January 9, 2025

Friday morning, with the weekend right in front of us. And it will be a very wet weekend. Heavy rain is expected today, with more rain forecasted for tomorrow, potentially leading to local flooding. A high of 68 today, and then it will cool down by Sunday after the rain leaves.

YESTERDAY

I had a day off, and took advantage of that. I turned in a couple of new songs to my publisher, set up a few new writing appointments, went to the gym, and then settled in last evening to watch the Miami-Ole Miss football game, which was a thriller won by Miami in a back-and-forth football game that was fun to watch. A lot more football to today and through the weekend.

GREAT MUSIC NEWS

I got a wonderful text from Laura Leigh Jones last night telling me that the song we wrote, “Sun Can’t Stop The Rain”, which is her current single that the two of us wrote a couple of years ago, was the MOST played song on Sirius-XM channel, “Bluegrass Junction” over the last 30 days.

It’s significant, because the “Bluegrass Junction” channel on XM it what makes bluegrass songs monetize the most, and exposes songs to a national audience.

Someone there REALLY loves our song, namely host Joey Black. So thank you, Joey!

Laura Leigh will be releasing a full album sometime soon that will include this song, and a couple of others that we co-wrote.

SONG OF THE DAY

Here’s a little beach song I wrote with Pensacola artist named Jessie Ritter.

It was the first time we had written together. She was in Nashville that day and came to write at my publishing company. I found out Jessie is a fellow Missourian, went to college in Nashville, but she and her husband chose a beautiful place to live on the Redneck Riviera. One of my favorite places.

I had done some background research and knew Jessie wrote some beach songs, so I brought this beach song idea to her, titled “Take Me There.” She loved it and sings it often in her shows. Like this show she did at the Florabama in Perdido Key. Watch this VIDEO and see getting the crowd to sing along with her.

HEALTH NOTES

A survey of 2,000 adults found nearly 23% currently use GLP-1 weight loss jabs, and over half of them say they would rather ditch social media than their medications.

More and more evidence has emerged that tells us exercise is as effective as antidepressants.

Some health experts are saying that popular intermittent fasting diets may not deliver the health benefits that many expect.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

Just a scary little reminder from the church.

UNPLUG

GM reports it will lose 6 billion dollars on electric vehicles. Guess what they will stop making. Uh huh. Gas is starting to dip below $2 in some states, and apparently, we have more gas coming. That doesn’t bode well for the “electric” movement.

Maybe not.

FISHING AROUND

How about this story? Police in Louisiana arrested an intoxicated woman standing in someone’s driveway, screaming. She told police that she was “trying to be a mermaid.

I’m guessing she was getting warmed up for Mardi Gras season down there…maybe.

THE BEATLES

The billionaire owner of the Colts, Jim Irsay, who passed recently, will have his music collection tour the country, and then some items will be put up for auction in New York, like this iconic drum set.

That’s the drum kit The Beatles used the night they played the Ed Sullivan show for the first time. Soon after, a lot of guys were letting their hair grow long, and the Beatles exploded in popularity in the US. I can’t fathom what this will bring at auction.

His collection is truly incredible. If you want to learn more about what is in Mr. Irsay’s musical collection, watch this VIDEO

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Will Rogers:

“I never expected to see a day when the girls would get sunburned in the places they do now.”

TODAY

I was to write with Jenny Tolman today, but “The Road” star has a gig in New York City today that came up, so we will reschedule for some other time.

So I have an extra day for my weekend that will be full of a lot of great playoff football games, including the matchup today between Oregon and the #1 seed Indiana to see who will play the Miami Hurricanes for the College Football Championship this year.

Have a great Friday.
