Winter Bomb Cyclone...Pre-Order The Book...104 Year Old Vet

BILL BLOG

Monday December 29, 2025

The last Monday of December has arrived, and it brought colder weather with it to Nashville. A strong gusty wind blew in last night, and we lost power for about 2 hours. And we went from the 70’s to a 32 high today with a low tonight of just 24 above zero. The good news is, the temperatures will be back in the mid-50’s by Friday.

More good news. We are not under that “Winter Bomb Cyclone Alert” for the northeast and parts of the upper Midwest. I’m not even sure what that is, but it doesn’t sound good.

THE WEEKEND

It was a tranquil weekend here, and will be for a bit as I don’t have any shows on the road until February 11 & 12 up in Greenville, Indiana, with Freedom Sings USA—a writing retreat with veterans in that area, located between Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

I do have a couple of Nashville area shows before that, with the first one being Saturday, January 24, at Starstruck Farms in Lebanon, Tennessee, with “Hits & Grins”. It’s a 7 pm dinner show.

And then the iconic Bluebird Café on Thursday, February 5, with Lauren Mascitti, Brady Seals, and Victoria Venier.

BOWL GAMES

I watched a lot of the College Bowl games over the weekend. It was the first time I ever witnessed a Pop-Tarts sacrifice.

That was at the Pop-Tarts Bowl game.

Meanwhile, at the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl, they held a contest where two contestants tried to toss a football into an empty casket for money.

You get a lot more than just the game when you watch the College Bowls.

SUBTLE FREQUENCY

Just another reminder. My wife’s first book, “Subtle Frequency,” is out everywhere right now for pre-purchase. If you’re a book reader, think about picking up one and letting us know what you think. What is her book about?

Subtle Frequency" by Kathy Whyte is a supernatural thriller where a dead detective's heart keeps beating in a new host, causing bizarre visions and personality shifts for Clark Steele that hold the key to solving the detective's last case—finding a kidnapped child—forcing Clark and the detective's partner, John Baxter, to follow these psychic breadcrumbs to find the girl before it's too late. It blends crime procedural with paranormal elements, focusing on how the deceased's experiences transfer through organ donation to solve the mystery.

It’s a page turner for sure. Get you one!

SONG OF THE DAY

I’m writing with Lauren Mascitti this morning, so I’m going to share the song that the two of us wrote with our friend Kristen Bearfield, which Darin & Brooke Aldridge recorded on their last album, “Where I Come From”. And Darin & Brooke asked Lauren to sing harmony with them. You can hear that great blend when they sing together on this chorus.

HEALTH NOTES

The “Super flu” that’s going around has sent NYC flu cases to the highest level in a decade.

A Japanese study concludes that older adults discharged from hospitals on multiple medications are less likely to regain independence during rehabilitation. That would be 6 or more medications.

Researchers in the UK and Poland claim that walking in the snow can have an unexpected effect on your mental health, and even change how you feel when you look in the mirror. (I know. Last time I walked in the snow, I left looking like me and came back looking like Frosty.)

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

So guys, remember this if your wife ever puts you on the REALLY naughty list.

THE SMELL OF DUNKIN’

In Haverhill, Massachusetts, residents are complaining about the smell of fried dough emanating from a Dunkin’ Donuts factory located within their town. The factory churns out a million donuts per day, and residents claim the smell is overpowering.

I’m not sure which got my attention more. The fact that residents are complaining about the smell of donuts, or the fact that a factory can produce a million of them every single day.

NEW YEARS

Some folks are already working on their New Year’s resolution for 2026. Some of them are funny.

Wear less Spanx.

Wear more Spanx.

Actually, put on a full outfit for Zoom calls.

Stop Googling symptoms.

Only eat WHITE snow. (Best advice ever)

BAD DAY…REALLY BAD DAY

In Slidell, Louisiana, over the weekend, an illegal immigrant ran a red light and ran into an ICE vehicle. Yep, that ended badly for the driver.

IF YOU MISSED IT

Here’s the VIDEO of 104-year-old World War II veteran Dominic Critelli playing the National Anthem on his saxophone at an NHL hockey game this weekend. He survived both Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge while in the Army. If you’re patriotic in the least, the video should give you goose bumps.

MOVIES OF 2025

Rolling Stone chose its top movies of 2025. Here’s their Top 5.

5…Nouvelle Vague (I know. Never heard of it.)

4…Train Dreams

3…Black Bag

2…Hamnet

1…One Battle After Another with Leo DiCaprio. (That movie is #1 on a lot of lists).

Did you see ANY of those movies? Me neither.

Now the movies that were the MOST WATCHED were.

5…Jurassic World Rebirth

4…Minecraft

3…Lilo & Stitch

2…Zootopia 2

And #1 at the Box Office for 2025 was the movie Ne Zha 2.

Big difference between what the critics like and what families pay money to see.

LATEST AI NEWS

Andrew Ng is one of the pioneers of AI. He’s now saying that AI technology is limited and will not replace humans.

At the same time, home shopper is Florida are starting to use an AI program to help them search for a house, make offers, and draft a contract for the sale, bypassing a real estate agent.

The “yin and the yang” of AI, I suppose.

NEW BATTERY

Word is there is a new car battery for luxury cars that will take you 600 miles before you have to charge the vehicle. Will that convince more of us to buy an electric car?  Dunno.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Jerry Seinfeld:

If a book about failures doesn’t sell, is it a success?”

TODAY

Off to write with Lauren Mascitti and Caroline Owens this morning. Lauren just signed her first publishing deal, so we’ll take a second to toast that before writing a new song.

Have a great Monday!
