The Book...New York...Burgers

BILL BLOG

Friday December 12, 2025

Friday morning and the weekend has arrived. We will hit 56 for a high today in Nashville, which will be nice, but it will also be short-lived. We have a possible record-breaking cold snap on the way that will bring a high of just 26 on Sunday, with the low hitting just 11 above Sunday evening.

YESTERDAY

It was a pretty laid-back Thursday around the Whyte House yesterday. Ran some errands, and my wife and I then tried to figure out whose package arrived from Amazon, as we are both ordering Christmas gifts and have no idea if the package that comes is for her, or for me, or for others. Sigh. Yesterday, a box arrived that had something I got her, but also something she ordered. It’s like Christmas roulette here, folks.

MEANWHILE

Our daughter Heather, over in Germany, caught quite the carriage ride a couple of days ago.

We’ll be missing her and her husband one more Christmas this year. When they do come back stateside, I don’t know if she knows yet that she can’t ride in that from Germany to the US.

These days, she’s staying busy designing clothing, like the dress you see her in here.

Nope, I have no idea how she does that either.

THE BOOK

It looks like my wife Kathy’s first-ever book will be released sometime in February of 2026.

All the tweaks, all the editing is done, so it’s ready for print, and then book signings, and encouraging folks to pick up a copy wherever books are sold. It’s such a great book (fiction) if I do say so myself, and we can’t wait for others to start turning the pages on “Subtle Frequency”.

So tentatively, February is the date we’re looking at right now.

SONG OF THE DAY

My friend Lauren Mascitti cancelled our writing appointment for a good reason yesterday, as she had an unexpected meeting with a record label and publisher. I can only figure they, too, have heard what a great singer-writer she is. And here’s some proof of that. This is Lauren singing a song we wrote, “Look Who’s Crying Now,” for our Song of the Day.

Don’t forget that Lauren will join me at the Bluebird Café on February 5, a Thursday evening, for a great songwriter show with Victoria Venier from my “Hits & Grins” trio, and former Little Texas and Hot Apple Pie member Brady Seals. Just in case you’re going to be here in Music City at that time.

HEALTH NOTES

It’s cold and flu season, and some health experts are reminding us that there are certain foods to avoid when we are sick. Spicy foods, alcohol, fried, greasy foods, and sugary drinks.

A study from Stanford suggests that propane stoves contribute to one-fourth of indoor and outdoor nitrogen dioxide exposure for individuals who cook with them at home.

A new health study points out that there are 7 alarming health concerns linked to low magnesium intake. Those are:

High blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, Osteoporosis, Migraines, Depression and mood, Chronic inflammation, and Sarcopenia & muscle function.

HERE’S YOUR SIGN

I guess she’s happy…right?

EXPENSIVE LIVING

The AVERAGE rent in NYC just went up to $5,686 a month. Wow. I’ve been to the Big Apple a couple of times. I covered the CMA Awards there when it was held in New York City for the first and only time. I remember interviewing the late Larry King while I was there one morning with his wanna be country music singing wife, and actress Shawn Southwick.

It was Larry’s 7th wife, and he was trying to promote her to country radio. The truth is, she surely was a better actress than she was a country singer.  Larry divorced her as well.

The second time I was in New York was to cover the Garth Brooks concert at Central Park where he introduced Billy Joel as his special guest and the two of them teamed up on this Billy Joel HIT.  Billy sang a little better than Larry’s ex-wife.

And the third time I was there was to see a ballgame at Yankee Stadium.

Three trips to New York were enough to make me know I could never live there. Heck, with rent over $5,000 for a little place?  I couldn’t AFFORD to live there. Fun to visit, but I’d be a fish out of water trying to live there.

SPACE STATION HOTEL

But I might rent a room at the Space Station Hotel that they are talking about, which could be open in 2027.

Might be cheaper than New York housing…we’ll have to wait and see. But the views would be something right?

REFUND

The Treasury Secretary is saying we will get a tax refund check of up to $2,000 early next year. Great. That will help pay less than half of one month’s rent if you live in New York.

WEATHER WARNING

Better than a Jim Cantore forecast for sure!

CHRISTMAS

In case you’re wondering what to get me for Christmas…

Thank you.

BURGERS

The first In-N-Out Burger opened in Nashville. And some folks were there all night waiting to be the first in line. For a burger!

I think I’ll wait.

We had the same kind of enthusiasm when What A Burger hit town, and yesterday, they announced they are closing 4 locations.

Me?  I keep wishing they would open one of these in Nashville.

ALSO COMING TO TOWN

That would be the Tiger Woods PopStroke attraction. Sort of like modern-day putt-putt golf, that will feature Tiger Woods-designed holes. And there will be food and drink available. Almost like the “putter” version of Top Golf, which is already here in town.

I’m shining up my putter right now.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Woody Allen:

I’m not afraid of death. I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”

TODAY

I’ll be writing with Bill DiLuigi today, a long-time writer in Nashville, from Pennsylvania originally. Bill is one of the songwriters who goes out every now and then with Freedom Sings USA to write songs with veterans.

Have a great weekend!
