New Shows...A Christmas Movie...Baseball Playoffs

BILL BLOG Tuesday September 30, 2025   And here it is…the last day of September. Tuesday. Warm today in Nashville with a high of 86.   YESTERDAY I had the day off. Which is funny, because I don’t consider what I do work. In reality, it’s kind of like I have every day off. And now that I think about it, I highly recommend it. It’s good non-work if you can get it.   SHOWS I did add a couple of new shows to my calendar yesterday. The first of those will be with my long-time beach-bum buddy, Brent Burns . He and I will play a show at Lulu’s down in Gulf Shores as part of his songwriter’s week that he’s hosted several years for MOTM…”Meeting of the Minds.” That’s the big Parrot Head party that I’m the co-emcee of again this year.   That 45-minute show will be on Friday, October 24. And those are always really fun shows. Come see us if you can.    ON THE RADIO Thursday evening, October 9, I’ll be a guest of my friend...

October Baseball...October Schedule...Get Off My Beach!

BILL BLOG Monday September 29, 2025    Monday morning. September is almost gone…already. Warming back up in Nashville with a high of 86 predicted for today. Meanwhile, there are a couple of hurricanes out there, Imelda being the new one that’s threatening to come ashore in Florida.   It is National Coffee Day. I’m doing my part as I’m on my second cup of black right now. The way my Dad taught me to drink it. He caught me sipping some at the table one morning when I was a young teenager, and he told me basically that if I was going to drink it, I had to drink it black. That stuck. Still black coffee, every morning.   THE WEEKEND Pretty lazy weekend around the Whyte House this weekend. The highlight was watching my Cincinnati Reds get into the playoffs yesterday. They lost their last game of the season to the Brewers, but the New York Mets lost to the Miami Marlins, and that gave the last wild card playoff spot to Cincinnati! So off to LA ...

Reds Win...Sedona Hike...Dog Songs

BILL BLOG Monday September 26, 2025   Friday morning, back in Nashville. 79 with sunshine here. Meanwhile, weather folks are talking about two tropical cyclones that could collide and then come together in a big storm, and then possibly hit the East Coast. That can’t be a good thing.   YESTERDAY I caught one more Reds baseball game in Cincinnati, their last home game of the season. There was a one-and-a-half-hour delay due to rain, but eventually they rolled up the tarp and got the game in.   This time, the Reds beat the Pirates to remain alive for a wild-card spot in the playoffs coming up. It’s pretty exciting when your team is playing meaningful baseball in late September, and it’s been a while since that’s happened for Reds fans.   Now it’s on to Milwaukee or the last three games. Fingers crossed.   It was a fun couple of days being back in the home of Skyline Chili.     SONG OF THE DAY This is a s...

Reds Game...Blast On The Bay Schedule..."151"

BILL BLOG Thursday September 25, 2025    And a good Thursday morning to you from the Queen City…Cincinnati. 75 degrees high in Cincinnati today, with scattered thunderstorms.   YESTERDAY I made the 5-hour trip from Nashville up to Cincinnati to catch a couple of Reds games. But first…   After a 3-way at Skyline Chili, I threw my bags in the hotel room and made my way to Great American Ballpark.   I really thought the game was going to get rained out, delayed, or both, from all the bad forecasts, but I got lucky and the game went on as planned against the Pirates. And my old piano player, Doug Mayo joined me to root on the Reds.   It was an exciting game, as the Reds were trying to sneak into the playoffs, and they rallied to tie the game in the 9 th and 10 th innings, only to lose in the 11 th. Really tough loss, but a heck of a game. Sigh. I’ll catch one more game this afternoon before heading home, hoping for ...

Baby On Board...Double Wide Beauties...Baseball Trip

BILL BLOG Wednesday September 24, 2025   Wednesday morning, and I’m packed for a little baseball trip. 70 with some rain in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY Kevin Williamson , the Dad in the Williamson Branch Family Band , and I wrote on a patriotic idea Kevin brought with him. Kevin had read a true story about a World War II veteran who got a knock at his door one day from an HOA person telling him he could not fly a flag in the neighborhood. You can imagine the backlash that made the news. So we pretty much got that written into a song titled “ I’ll Raise My Flag ” that we’ll polish up and finish the next time we write together.     One of Kevin’s talented daughters, Melody , has recently given birth to her first child. That has not slowed her fiddle playing down one bit.   Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before, Mom fiddling with baby on her back. Tell me that young one won’t grow up to be a musician like the rest of the family. ...
