BILL BLOG
Monday March 3, 2025
Monday morning, and I’m back in Nashville. And we’re into March, which will bring March Madness, Mardis Gras Parades, St.Patrick’s Day, and Daylight Savings Time coming up on March 9.
61 for a high today in Nashville with some wind.
THE WEEKEND
I left Panama City at the crack of dark on Friday morning to make the almost 8-hour trip back to Nashville from the beach.
Thanks again to my publishing company Billy Blue for allowing me to use their condo for the week.
The sun, the sunsets, and the peace and solitude recharged me for a busy schedule on the road playing shows over the next three weekends.
AHEAD
This Friday and Saturday I’m in Texas with Linda Davis and Lang Scott. The following weekend I’ll be in Huntsville, Alabama with Freedom Sings USA writing with veterans. And the weekend after that I hit the Peach State of Georgia with our “Evening in the Round” show with Linda and Lang. All the details for these shows and others are on my website under the TOUR tab.
MORE FREEDOM SINGS USA
And two other Freedom Sing writer retreats have been added to my calendar as well. In May I’ll be in Pensacola, Florida with our group at the Warrior Beer Company owned by a veteran.
Then in July, we fly back to beautiful Colorado for another Freedom Sings Event. Details for both of these events will be added to the website calendar soon.
NEW SHOW NEAR TOWN
On Saturday, May 3 I’ll be back at Star Struck Farms playing the Grand Ole Barn with my “Hits & Grins” trio alongside Steve Dean & Victoria Venier.
This is Reba’s old place out in Lebanon, Tennessee that’s been converted to an events center. It’s dinner plus our show at 7 pm that evening. Earlier in the day they will be holding a bluegrass festival on the grounds and then our show will headline the day and evening. Great place for a show. Come see us if you can.
SONG OF THE DAY
Today it’s a western swing song “All That Cowboy Jazz” that I wrote with Paul Bogart & Zach Runquist. Paul released it as a single and recorded a very fun video on the song as well. But the song was recorded a second time by a female artist from Dallas named Ali Dee. Ali is also seen on TV covering the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys. So check out the girl version of this “swing” song by clicking on the link.
OSCARS
I did see some of the Oscars last night but not a lot. The film Anora was the surprise winner last night. I know zero about the film so I’ll have to Google that today. Conan O’Brien is getting rave reviews as the host last night.
The only Oscar-nominated film I saw this year was “A Complete Unknown”…the Bob Dylan movie and that got shut out of any awards. And “Wicked” that I also saw, won a couple of non-major awards.
These days I just YouTube the highlights I want to see as opposed to sitting through “the Best Makeup and Hair Styling” and “Best Short Subject” sections.
HEALTH NOTES
A New Jersey cat was euthanized after contracting bird flu the first feline known case in that state.
A new study suggests that having kids can fight brain aging…the more the better.
In England, Edith Hall is about to celebrate her 106th birthday. Her secret to a long life she says is chocolate daily, and partying!
HERE’S YOUR SIGN
Yep...and the "Ghostbuster" guys won't answer if you do call.
OFFICIAL
President Trump made English the official language for us Americans. Am I the only one who didn’t know it was our official language? I kind of hate knowing that I’ve been speaking an unofficial language all these years.
When people place their coffee orders at Starbucks, even though they order in English I still don’t understand what their saying. Are those orders part of our official language as well?
PAST TIME
Finally. There’s a chance that Major League Baseball is going to take Pete Rose off the ineligible list giving him a chance to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. What a shame that it’s after his death. I think the game is one thing, the off-field stuff of players is another. And nobody ever played the game harder than Peter Edward Rose. I feel blessed that I got to watch him play, manage, and be around him a couple of times.
He was a great interview…ALWAYS entertaining, funny, and passionate and he knew a TON about the game. Beloved in Cincinnati of course.
In my little baseball opinion, it’s past time the American “Past Time” put him in the Hall.
EXCUSE ME…CAN YOU REPEAT THAT?
Word is that the world’s largest call center is going to use AI to ‘neutralize’ Indian employee accents. Now THAT will be a good use of AI. If they’re not going to hire people you can understand…then at least this is an option. And since it’s MUCH cheaper to use AI…I’m pretty sure we will be talking to AI folks on the phone.
THEM AND US
Paris Hilton admits she bought over 1,000 clothes for her dog Tinkerbell. It set her back $500,000.
My friend Lang Scott heard his nephew say that there would be some things that he would not be doing in his life. That led to me and Lang sitting down and writing a song titled “Some Things That I Won’t Do” which Lang sings often in our “Evening in the Round” shows with Linda Davis. One of the lines Lang came up with for the song is, “I won’t get a dog then treat it like it’s human.” Little did I know it would apply to Paris Hilton one day.
RESEARCH SAYS
That men fall in love twice as fast as women. Not as fast for the men wanting to fall in love with Paris Hilton before realizing she’s going to drop a half-million on dog clothes.
FUNNY TWEET FROM A MOM
Me: Is it too late for an epidural?
Doctor: Ma’am, he is 12 years old.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
She Traveled to Italy to Save Her Marriage and Ended Up Falling for Her Italian Tour Guide. (Well at least she gave it the old college try.)
TODAY
I’m writing online this morning with Tim Stafford over in Knoxville who is one of my favorite bluegrass songwriters. He teaches bluegrass at Eastern Tennessee State University so I feel like I’m in class learning something new every time we co-write. Should be fun again this morning.
Have a great Monday!
