Amish Country...Cheaper Gas...Funny Johnny Cash Story

 BILL BLOG

Thursday December 12, 2024

Thursday morning is arising. A high of 49 in Nashville today. Could be much worse. 11 states ae under a winter storm warning with as much as 18 feet of snow with ice expected in some parts of the U.S.

YESTERDAY

I was to write with my longtime friend Steve Dean and new friend Mutt Cooper who was in town from Georgia but Steve wasn’t feeling well (guessing he may have celebrated his birthday a little too much) so it was just Mutt and me at my publishing company. First time writing together.

Mutt brought a really nice bluegrass-gospel song idea that we jumped on and at the end of a couple of hours we had our first song together.

Besides being a songwriter-singer Mutt, who is former military works in Columbus, Georgia doing therapy with out soldiers. We need more guys like that.

Pleasure writing with Mutt yesterday.

SONG OF THE DAY

Today’s song is from bluegrass artist Carley Arrowood who recorded “Deeper in Love” a song I wrote with Josh Shilling…Josh’s great idea. When we wrote that day Josh had most of the chorus already and I was hooked the minute I heard it. Carley, besides being a great bluegrass singer is also a top notch fiddle player. She played fiddle for my friends Darin & Brooke Aldridge before breaking out and doing her own thing. And you can hear her fiddle expertise on this song when you click on the link to listen.

AN AMISH COUNTRY DUO

Check this VIDEO out. This young Amish couple have gone viral by covering and singing the heck out of an old country classic “Slowly I’m Falling”. It’s just honest, and organic and catchy as heck. Don’t be surprised to see more of this.  Really refreshing. Amish Country y'all!

HEALTH NOTES

More on coffee. Harvard University concludes that moderate coffee intake…two to five cups a day is linked to a lower likelihood of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, liver and endometrial cancers, Parkinson’s disease and depression. Filtered coffee is the healthiest according to them.

The USDA thinks dietary guidelines should emphasize beans and lentils as protein.

Reportedly a record number of kids died from the flu last year. The CDC says that despite that news less than 1/3rd of all kids have gotten a flu shot this year so far, compared to 43% last year.

REAL LIFE CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATING

A husband shared this.

How me and my wife put up a Christmas tree

Drag tree out

Argue

Hang 500 lights

 Argue

Plug in, doesn't work

 Argue

Tighten 500 lights Doesn't work

Start drinking

Throw tree against the wall

Put house up for sale file for divorce

THAT REMINDS ME

Of one of my favorite Christmas funny songs from Bob Rivers who’s a longtime air personality out in Seattle. Makes me last every time I hear it. “The 12 Pains of Christmas”.

THEM AND US

Quarterback and now NFL football analyst Tom Brady is selling some of his persona stuff at auction. He sold a bunch of his luxury watches. The fetched 9 MILLION dollars. Pretty sure my Fossil collection won’t do as well at auction.

SPEAKING OF MILLIONS

The Megamillion jackpot just hit 670 million bucks. First thing I’m going to do when I win is buy a Tom Brady watch…or not.

FUNNY JOHNNY CASH STORY

This one came from Dolly Parton who was good friends with Johnny and his wife June Carter. Dolly got along great with June because they both like to talk…a lot. She shared the story about how someone once asked Johnny “Don’t you ever get tired of hearing June talking”?  And Cash replied, “No, I do some of my best thinking when she’s talking.”

GAS

Gas prices are the lowest they’ve been since 2021. The 5 cheapest states are…right here in Tennessee at #5. And then it’s Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Oklahoma has the cheapest gas at the pump.

Hawaii is the most expensive. It’s $4.56 a gallon there right now.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Stunned LYFT Driver Discovers His Passenger Is Naked In The Back Seat. (I think the driver ripped his mirror off shortly afterwards)

TODAY

I’ll be online writing with Rob Bellamy for the first time in a long while. Rob is out in Boston these days with his wife Ayla Brown who’s a talented singer and former American Idol star. The three of us wrote a lot when the two of them lived here in Music City so it will be fun to catch up their lives today before we start rhyming.

Have a great Thursday!

A Duo Write...Wienermobile Applications...Love Tom

BILL BLOG Thursday December 19, 2024   Thursday morning has arrived and after some heavy rain here in Nashville yesterday it will cool off to a high of just 45 today.   YESTERDAY I had such a fun write with 2/3rds of the “ Three Times A Lady ” trio.   That would be Victoria Camp and a pregnant Kennedy Scott . Kennedy is due about the first of May of next year…and her baby bump is growing. She and the trio will be playing several weeks in a row at Dollywood come next March…so that will be an interesting challenge for her for sure.   And it was Kennedy who brought in a very cool idea that we wrote together after Victoria came up with an almost “swampy” kind of melody to fit under the lyrics. Got a pretty good feeling this one will be on their next album. Yep, a good day.   SONG OF THE DAY I’ve posted this song before but it seems appropriate to make it today’s song of the day after talking about the “Three Times A Lady”. ...

A Bluebird Show...New Album In The Mail...An Interview With An Old Friend

BILL BLOG Tuesday November 26, 2024   Tuesday morning…couple days away from carving the turkey. 50 for the high today here in Music City…bracing for some cold weather on the way.   YESTERDAY I had nothing musical on the calendar yesterday…but had one of those “had to do” things that took up a chunk of my day. Sometimes you can’t control a calendar…the calendar controls you and give you no choice. But there was some good news that came rolling in.   NEW SHOW On Tuesday January 28 I’ll be hosting a songwriter round at the world famous Bluebird Café. And the great part about this news is that I’m going to be able to add my longtime friend Brent Burns to this show…something that’s been a bucket list item for him.   And I’m so glad that I’m the one who will get to make this happen for him. EVERY songwriter wants to play the Bluebird. And somehow, even though my friend lived in Nashville and wrote very seriously for a long while, he ne...

Turkey Day...Road Schedule...No Degree Jobs

BILL BLOG Friday November 29, 2024   Happy Friday! 32 degrees right now with a high in Nashville today of 43 before dipping to a cold 25 later this evening. Time to put the trap door up. YESTERDAY Anyone else still in a turkey coma after yesterday? My wife and I sat at a long Turkey table with the Scott family and some great friends. We could not have been in better company so thank you Chris & Hillary and Lang and Linda for inviting us.   We certainly missed seeing our daughter Heather again this year and her husband Casey who are stationed overseas with the Army right now. But we were surrounded by people we love.  I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day as well.    SONG OF THE DAY Today I’m sharing a song I wrote with Paul Bogart about his youngest daughter Gentry . Paul lives out in Oklahoma…a real deal cowboy George Strait singing son of a gun. The two of us wrote a song for both of his sons that he recorded...
