Saturday Night Dinner Show...The Simpsons...Droning On

BILL BLOG

Wednesday August 28, 2024

The last Hump Day of August has arrived…Wednesday…bringing more heat. 100 degrees here today. The answer to the old weather question, “Is it hot enough for you?” is a resounding YES.

YESTERDAY

I had a bit of an off day for my Monday after a writing session was cancelled so I tried to take advantage of that and crossed some things off my “got behind” on list. Got a few done.

The road schedule ahead is going to get so busy that I’m trying to remind myself to just rest up and get ready when I do get an off day or two on the calendar

NEXT SHOW

The first on is this Saturday evening at Starstruck Farm which was the old Reba McEntire property in Lebanon, Tennessee that’s been converted to an event center.

And her old horse stables have been converted into pretty cool rooms that one can rent for overnight stays.

I play there with my “Hits & Grins” trio that includes Steve Dean & Victoria Venier Saturday night. Dinner and a show with dinner at 7 pm and our show starts at 9:45 pm. Tickets are available, so come join us for the fun if you can!

HEALTH NOTES

The CDC says the highest rates of COVID are in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

A new study reveals virus linked to chickenpox may pose greater health risks than believed.

A new study claims that working the night shift may cause dangerous health conditions, long term risk of disease.

BEER

Sounds like something Homer Simpson wrote or said.

SPEAKING OF THE SIMPSONS

There’s going to be a “live” action version of “The Simpsons” that will star comedian Adam Sandler. What’s that going to look like? Here’s the TRAILER that was released yesterday.

Through my years on radio I interviewed a lot of the actor and actresses that voiced the characters of one of the best written comedic TV shows that’s still going. Nancy Cartwright who voices “Bart Simpson”, Dan Castellaneta the voice of Homer and several other characters and even the producer once Matt Groening. All of them were terrific interviews.

One of my regrets in life is that I did not take up Matt’s offer to fly out to LA and sit in on a “table read” for one of the shows. A table read is where all the actors and producers sit at a table and read through a script of a new episode. I so should have done that.

And to this day I think some of the Homer Simpson lines are just the funniest lines ever.

Why you could wake up dead tomorrow!

Son, if you really want something in this life, you have to work for it. Now quiet! They’re about to announce the lottery numbers.

Every second I’m out of bed I’m burning precious calories.

DRONING ON

The ways folks can use drones is amazing. Now in Scottsdale, Arizona police say they can fly a drone to a crime scene in 85 seconds. Snap a picture of a license plate, lead police wherever they need to be and more.

They can also fly medical devices and supplies to scenes.

Some are now being used to spray crops for farmers, and along the beaches they are flown to look for sharks.

STOP ME IF YOU’VE HEARD THIS BEFORE

A Czech gymnast pretty well known over there tried to take a selfie of herself to near the edge of a mountain and the results were of course tragic…she slipped and fell 262 feet. Folks are addicted to them…to a tragic fault sometimes. Part of the reason that I wrote the song “Get Over Your Selfie” with these lyrics…”Get a little self helpie…and get over your selfie”.

And then there’s this selfie reminder.

AU NATURAL

Once a month at a museum in the southern French city of Marseille visitors can tour the museum wearing nothing but their shoes. Something about celebrating “naturism” in Europe.

Pretty sure this would be Mona Lisa’s reaction to you standing in front of her with no clothes on.

SIGN

Proof that one needs to check their lightbulbs to make sure they’re all working. Sent to me from my funny songwriter friend Randy Brooks.

MILLIONAIRES

Here’s a greenback statistic that’s eye popping. As of June 30, nearly half a million 401K accounts had balances of 1 million dollars or more. The AVERAGE balance hit $1,595,200. And now all I can hear is actress Jennifer Garner asking, “What’s in your wallet”?

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Florida Woman Kills Wild Boar With Mango. Wow. Wonder if I can get my Cincinnati Reds to sign her up as a pitcher?

TODAY

I’m off to write with Wil Nance my old Missouri friend who just keeps writing great songs that I love like this one that George Strait recorded “Where Have I BeenAll My Life”.

And today Trop Rock artist Aubrey Wollett is in town so she’s going to join us a Wil’s little writing cabin on his farm. Guessing we might go to the beach today.

Have a great Wednesday!

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

Fishing Song...Great Album Review...A Promotion

BILL BLOG Friday July 19, 2024   Friday morning and we’re getting ready to jump into the weekend. Sunshine and an 84 high in Music City today.   YESTERDAY I spent yesterday morning writing a fun fishing-love kind of song with bluegrass artist Caroline Owens yesterday. Caroline can bait her own hook which I already knew so I wasn’t too surprised that she loved the song idea. She talked about hooking her ear a few times while fly-fishing, so I knew I had given this idea to the right artist.     And we got to wrap up the day with dinner at a great Mexican restaurant our publisher Joe Dan Cornett took us and the head of the label Jerry Salley and Billy Blue Recording artist Carson Peters out to lunch where we not only shared chips and salsa, but we shared a lot of laughs.   FYI…Carson Peters is an incredibly talented artist at just the age of 19. He appeared on the Jay Leno “Tonight Show” when he was just 8 years old, then played the Grand Ole Opry shortly
