Double Writing Day...Buc-ee Falls...Show Tomorrow Night

BILL BLOG

Friday August 16, 2024

Bring on the weekend. It’s Friday…with a road trip for a show coming up tomorrow morning. More on that at the end of today’s Blog. 92 will be our high in Nashville with some storms on way possibly.

YESTERDAY

It was a double header day for songwriting that started at 10 AM with my Iowa friend and leader of the gospel girl group “High Road” and that would be one Sarah Davison

It’s been a bit…and yesterday the little baby we had talked about that she and her husband were talking about showed up big time. She’s very pregnant and they are hoping to have a healthy Christmas Eve baby this year. And with all of that going on Sarah has been traveling all over the country making music, and that won’t end for a couple more months before she takes time to have her little boy. Happy for her and her hubby for sure.

I brought a start to a gospel song idea that Sarah loved. She sat right down behind the piano and made the song sound so great as it came to life with her playing and singing it. Might be something her girl group records one of these days.

NEXT

Then at 1 pm young Kirsti Kraus popped in to write a fun up-tempo song with me…for her. She too has been busy doing some shows, and she’s been on camera quite a bit for a little TV network here interviewing celebrities for the channel. A natural for her personality. She recently got to tour the UK for an entire month and is not looking to do the same in Germany before too long. Fun to be around and we got out of the publishing company with something that I can see her singing in her shows now.

BACK TO ILLINOIS

This should be a great show coming up in Marion, Illinois the weekend of September 7 as Freedom Sings USA will do a retreat there writing with veterans with a great outdoor show planned on that Saturday evening. I’ve gotten to know the couple who are organizing this event and they are so excited about having us…and being able to honor their local veterans. And so are we!

HEALTH NOTES

27 states are now reporting very high COVID activity and it’s rampant in some states according to an MSN report.

A report says that scientists have discovered protein that eradicates cancer and boosts the body’s immunity.

Cucumbers in 31 states have been recalled. Salmonella scare.

HOW I FEEL ABOUT POLITICS

I may have to buy that.

ALL SHOOK UP

One region in Texas just had 61 earthquakes in 7 days. 61 of those bad boys. California had several as well. What in the world is shaking things up there? We largely never have an earthquake in Tennessee. But we make up for that with danged tornadoes. Not sure which is worse.

At least a tornado inspired this funny song I wrote with Brent Burns Double Wide In TheSky”. So far, I have no earthquake tunes.

WILLIE

How about this. At the young age of 91 Willie Nelson is about to release his 153rd album! The album is titled “Last Leaf On The Tree”.

Here’s the TITLE TRACK to the album. 91 and still going strong…enough to make some say, “I’ll have what he’s smoking”.

THE BEAVER DID FELL

A South Carolina man is suing a Buc-ee’s claiming the big inflatable beaver fell on him causing some injuries.

I can only hope that Judge Judy will preside over this lawsuit.

LEAST STRESSED CITIES

According to a survey the least stressed city in the country is Newton, Massachusetts followed by Sunnyvale, Santa Clarita, and Milpitas all in California with Naperville, Illinois landing at #5 on the least stressed list.

Most stressed?

That would be Flint, Michigan with Detroit, Dayton, Cleveland and Shreveport rounding up that bottom 5 of most stressed cities to dwell in.

Finance, work, health and safety were the reasons listed.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Woman Accidentally Joins Search Party Looking For Herself. (Word is that miraculously she found her)

TODAY

I’m writing with the talented bluegrass artist Caroline Owens today who just signed a new record label and publishing deal with Billy Blue, the same company I write song for. Her star is going to get brighter and brighter with time. Always enjoy spending time and creating with young talent like Caroline.

TOMORROW
I’ll be in Tullahoma, Tennessee for a show tomorrow night with Linda Davis and Lang Scott. Our “Evening in the Round" trio will play at the South Jackson Performing Arts Center starting at 7 pm.

It’s been awhile since we’ve done our show, so I’m really looking forward to sharing the stage with them tomorrow night. If you’re anywhere near Tullahoma…come see us!

Have a great weekend!

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

Fishing Song...Great Album Review...A Promotion

BILL BLOG Friday July 19, 2024   Friday morning and we’re getting ready to jump into the weekend. Sunshine and an 84 high in Music City today.   YESTERDAY I spent yesterday morning writing a fun fishing-love kind of song with bluegrass artist Caroline Owens yesterday. Caroline can bait her own hook which I already knew so I wasn’t too surprised that she loved the song idea. She talked about hooking her ear a few times while fly-fishing, so I knew I had given this idea to the right artist.     And we got to wrap up the day with dinner at a great Mexican restaurant our publisher Joe Dan Cornett took us and the head of the label Jerry Salley and Billy Blue Recording artist Carson Peters out to lunch where we not only shared chips and salsa, but we shared a lot of laughs.   FYI…Carson Peters is an incredibly talented artist at just the age of 19. He appeared on the Jay Leno “Tonight Show” when he was just 8 years old, then played the Grand Ole Opry shortly
