Aussie In Town...Grand Ole Circle...Show Tonight

BILL BLOG

Wednesday August 7, 2024

Middle of the week is on us.  Wednesday…all day. 87 for the high in Nashville.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with my long-time friend and co-writer Steve Dean at my publishing company and he introduced to Suzy J who was in town from Melbourne, Australia. Suzy is an artist down under, a Mom of a couple of teen-aged boys, and she loves performing and writing songs which is kind of a new thing for her. She was great fun, and she brought a great song title with her that we tore into.

She also brought a large pack of an Australian little dessert called Tim Tam that I’d never hear of. Kind of like chocolate on a chocolate wafer cookie. SO good.

It was a pleasure getting to know her and write with her, and tonight I’ll be doing a songwriter show with her and Steve. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.

DARIN AND BROOKE

Worth sharing this song again after Darin and Brooke Aldridge posted a really nice note about the song “Grand Ole Circle” that we wrote together that’s become of a favorite of theirs as well as a favorite of the audience that loves the two of them and their music.

About the song Brooke wrote, “Grand Ole Circle” is our big THANK YOU to the Grand Ole Opry for always keeping a light on the circle, and giving people hope even in the hardest of times. It’s so very special to play the Opry and it is truly the grandest stage. We are always honored to be a part of a tradition that we hold incredibly close to our hearts!”

After we wrote it their publicist sent me the nicest note saying, “Bill, I think you’ve written a “career” type song for them. Pretty good compliment for a hairy-legged tunesmith. Click the link above if for some reason you’ve not heard the song or have not watched the great historical video they produced with the help of the Grand Ole Opry.

SOUTHERNISM

And Brady Seals posted a little tease of song titled “Southernism” that we wrote with Josh Shilling last year that’s now available on a new album from Brady that’s on his WEBSITE. The sound “southern-rocks” for sure and it’s getting a little airplay now and getting even better reactions from folks who have latched onto it. Good to hear!

HEALTH NOTES

Doctors say Ozempic patients may face dangerous risks during surgery and should pause diabetes or weight-loss medications prior to surgery.

A study reveals that 1 in 4 of us are deficient in vitamin D.

A medical article claims that millions in the U.S. risk liver damage from herbal remedies.

YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK… IF YOU POST THIS SIGN

ON THE HORIZON

This flying hybrid car that will have a 3 hour range and be able to fly for 3 hours before needing to refuel. It will get you out of a traffic jam by flying and it can fit in your garage. Check out this VIDEO. Folks, the Jetsons are coming.

HURRICANE DEBBY

Like most hurricanes it brought some wind but the bigger after effect is flooding. And Florida and other states are going through that right now…New York, Georgia, South Carolina and a bunch of the east coast.

And…you don’t normally walk out of your home and find a catfish like this guy did in Pinellas County in Florida.

Hopefully some hush puppies washed up with it.

MATERS

I’m a plain eater. Not a fan of tomatoes for the most part. But this year after being over in Germany to visit our daughter and son-in-law and seeing what they were growing out their back door my wife got inspired and some homegrown tomatoes have showed up in the kitchen. And then Heather sent this picture yesterday from Germany of their crop.

And with that comes the best song about tomatoes ever written from the late Guy Clark, “Homegrown Tomatoes”.

LOTS OF CATS

Folks love their tomatoes…and some folks REALLY love cats. There is actually a CatVideoFest happening in Nashville. You can go see a compilation of cat videos that people have sent in that was turned into a movie!  You can go sit in a movie theater and watch a movie about cats. Here’s a little CLIP.

Make sure you check and remove the cat hair though in your theater seat before you sit down.

GREAT HEALTH ADVICE

You’re welcome. Breathe on.

TODAY

I’m back writing with my friend Irene Kelley. This is just one of the great songs that Irene has written in her great career that Ricky Skaggs recorded with his wife Sharon. "Love Can't Get Any Better".

TONIGHT

I’ll be at McNamara’s Irish Pub & Restaurant with the group of writers you see on the poster below. I got hooked on Guinness when my wife and I were in Ireland so I’m sure I’ll be ordering a pint as will my friend Steve Dean who was in Ireland for the first time a few months ago. Should be a very fun evening.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Seed Song...Happy Birthday...Beanie Babies

BILL BLOG Thursday July 18, 2024   Here it be…Thursday already. We had some needed rain roll in last night…pretty heavy and it’s going to cool things off here in Nashville. Today’s high will only be 83 after being in the high 90’s for several days. That’s going to feel like a breath of fresh air…literally.   YESTERDAY Another free day yesterday so pretty lazy around the Whyte House. I did some voting yesterday as the early round are up for voting in both the CMA Awards and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. So I cast early votes in both…final round voting will come later. Good luck to all and there are so many who deserve to win.   A JINGLE I talked with my northern Missouri friend Becky Denton yesterday as she was in town with her talented husband Will Denton who plays both drums and piano and he was in Nashville prepping for a show with a Tom Petty tribute band that he’s part of. A couple of years ago the three of us wrote a song to pitch to the Merschman

Funny Song...Music Luncheon...Gladiator

BILL BLOG Friday July 26, 2024   Friday morning…rolling into a late July weekend. 82 for the high in Twang Town today with a little rain in the mix.   YESTERDAY I had a very full Wednesday that started with writing a new funny song with young Ethan Phillips who walked into the writing room and said something in conversation that led us to writing what he said about women being compared to a volcano. We may have had WAY too much fun writing that thought. And it could very well turn out to be a song I put on my set list from time to time when I’m out performing.   LUNCH We finished up in time for me to run down south of Nashville to have lunch with my friends Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our mutual friends Richard & Donna Lynch who run a wonderful venue in Waynesville, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati called the “Keep It Country Farm”.   Linda, Lang and myself did a show for them last year and had the best time. They turned part of their f

Fishing Song...Great Album Review...A Promotion

BILL BLOG Friday July 19, 2024   Friday morning and we’re getting ready to jump into the weekend. Sunshine and an 84 high in Music City today.   YESTERDAY I spent yesterday morning writing a fun fishing-love kind of song with bluegrass artist Caroline Owens yesterday. Caroline can bait her own hook which I already knew so I wasn’t too surprised that she loved the song idea. She talked about hooking her ear a few times while fly-fishing, so I knew I had given this idea to the right artist.     And we got to wrap up the day with dinner at a great Mexican restaurant our publisher Joe Dan Cornett took us and the head of the label Jerry Salley and Billy Blue Recording artist Carson Peters out to lunch where we not only shared chips and salsa, but we shared a lot of laughs.   FYI…Carson Peters is an incredibly talented artist at just the age of 19. He appeared on the Jay Leno “Tonight Show” when he was just 8 years old, then played the Grand Ole Opry shortly
