Weather...Parrot Heads...Mom's

BILL BLOG

Wednesday, May 8, 2024

Wednesday the first “hump day” of May and it’ bringing MORE rain with it. Heavy rain. And parts of the Nashville area have closed schools because of severe weather worries coming today as well. A tornado touched down 50 miles or so east of us last night in Smithville, Tennessee.

73 for the high today as the storms have cooled things off.

YESTERDAY

An open day as I had my songwriter appointment cancelled. Finally got the grass cut though. The grass had gotten so tall from all the rain and kid could have gotten lost in it. The guy who mows us told me he was at least two days behind on his mowing jobs because of the rain making it impossible to do his job. He’ll be busy for quite a while just trying to catch up.

MORE DARIN AND BROOKE

The Tennessean newspaper this morning ran a wonderful article about my friends new album “Talk of the Town” that I have two cuts on. Their career just continues to grow and they are getting more notice all the time from not only bluegrass circles but “country” circles as well. Check out the ARTICLE.

Surely proud to have had their last single “Wildflower Too” that’s on this album as well as a new song “Where You’ll Find Me” written with Lauren Mascitti, and Kristen Leigh Bearfield.

LOOKING AHEAD

I slated my first official show at this year’s Meeting of the Minds (MOTM) the week-long celebration of Trop Rock Music with the largest gathering of Parrot Heads one will ever see. Colorful shirts, inflatable things, flip flops, hats you name it.

This year the event is October 22-26 in Gulf Shores, Alabama for the second year in a row after moving from its long time gathering place in Key West. My friend Kelly McGuire, a great Trop Rock artist invited me to play his great event that allows singers and writers like me to get up and do 3 or 4 songs with the great band he puts together each year. So it’s good to get the first gig on the books for this…and there will be more coming. Looking forward to it.

HEALTH NOTES

Not a real surprise here. Most health experts recommend not eating at the salad bar because food is not always maintained at safe temperatures and the fear of contamination from shared surfaces and more.

There’s a cream cheese recall in 8 states because of salmonella concerns. The brand in question is Hyvee.

Long Beach, California has declared a state of emergency after tuberculosis sickens 14.

KIDS ASK THE DARNEST THINGS

There’s no filter on little kids or older folks.

SPEAKING OF THE RUMP

They say (whomever “they” is) that the new cosmetic trend-wagon that GenZers are jumping on is getting “buttox” shots. Not botox…buttox. Firming up the tuckus shots. Uh huh.

File that under things you’ll never hear me say. “Honey, I’m going to go fill up the truck and then get a quick injection”.

WHOMEVER THEY IS
There’s a great song "Who Is They" that my talented friend Eric Erdman wrote and sings at a lot of his Parrot Head shows. Makes me laugh for sure. Check THIS out.

SPEAKING OF MOM’S

Mother’s Day is coming this Sunday. No…don’t get her a vacuum cleaner, fitness equipment, or a self-help book of any kind. That never goes over well.

Mom’s kind of speak the truth as well. One Mom says, “Cleaning with kids in the house is like brushing your teeth with Oreos.”

LAINEY WILSON

I mentioned yesterday that country star Lainey Wilson is taking over the bar that used to belong to Florida Georgia Line in downtown Nashville. We’ve got PLENTY of celebrity bars. But I’m applauding the creative name that Lainey is giving her bar. She’s known of course for her signature look of wearing bell bottoms on stage. So her bar will be named “Bell Bottoms Up”.

Which makes me think it would have been clever for Eric Church to have named his bar “Church Key” instead of “Chiefs”.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Man Who Survived Jumping Off 11th Deck Of A Cruise Ship Admits He “Didn’t Think It Through”. Ya think?

TODAY

My friend Rick Lang is in town from out east so we’ll be writing in person at my publishing company today. Rick is getting a lot of attention for his new album and his new single that I helped him write with Jerry Salley that’s the title track to his album “Blue Collar Gospel” that features Jerry Salley singing with the legendary Oak Ridge Boys. So I’m sure we’ll spend a little time celebrating that before we start rhyming today.

It’s getting really dark and loud outside right now so here’s hoping the severe stuff stays away from us today.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
