New Writer...Pensacola Songwriters...Trailer Park Sexy

Tuesday May 7, 2024

And a good Tuesday morning to you. Storms rolled in again last night and it got loud. A tornado was actually spotted in our county and I did not have a clue until this morning. Nothing like a surprise tornado. 83 and maybe some sunshine today.

I wrote with Kennedy Scott for the first time yesterday at my publishing company. Kennedy grew up in Carolina, where her Dad was and still is a “luthier” (makes guitars) so she grew up around music even though her Dad never played or sang. She’s half of a duo called Carolina Pine that also features young Woody James.

And she’s also one third of the great female trio “Three Times A Lady”.

Kennedy loves traditional music-roots-grass as I do. Emmy Lou is one of her musical heroes. And Kennedy has a great sense of humor so we really hit it off and wrote a song that I know she walked out of the writing room loving. That makes me feel good as I loved the song as well. It was time well spent…and a lot of fun. We’ll certainly be writing more in the future.

I finally got a copy of this yesterday while I was in the record-label publishing company yesterday.

The new Darin & Brooke Aldridge CD that has two songs I helped write on it. I’ll be wearing this out today on my car speakers.

These two are just so good and every song on it is really great. I obviously love the two I’m involved with, but I also love the song “Jordan” that’s old timey in feel and features both Ricky Skaggs and Mo Pitney on the recording that went #1 for several weeks on the gospel-bluegrass charts.

Pick up a copy of three if you like great harmony and music like this.

I'll be in Pensacola Florida October 3-6 this year for their songwriters festival. Those dates were confirmed yesterday. I'll be playing 4 shows at the festival with other songwriters on the beach. Venues, times, and who I'll be playing with will announced closer to festival time. Looking forward to being there.

A nutrition expert says there are 4 foods to avoid helping reduce the chance of cancer. Processed meats, alcohol, red meat, and sugary and fried foods. Positive foods to eat to reduce the risk?  Veggies, fruit, beans, and whole grain.

Amazon fitness equipment has been marked down 40% for May. Or as I like to call it, “equipment to hang your clothes on.”

Cholera cases reportedly are spreading worldwide and officials are sounding the alarm over vaccine shortages.

How about the Texas couple who just delivered identical quadruplet girls?! Wow. Well, they say they do everything bigger in Texas. And she doesn’t even look tired! Heck I got tired just looking at the picture.

Love this picture of this fan of the song “Trailer Park Sexy” that I wrote with Brent Burns that Brent and I both recorded. So shout out to Tony here. You gotta be comfortable in your own skin to wear pink now!

Years ago my friend Wood Newton and I wrote a song called “More Bars In More Places”. Nashville should start using this song as the celebrity honkytonks keep multiplying like Cicadas. The latest star announcing a new bar is Morgan Wallen. AND the first celebrity bar is closing it’s doors. The FGL Bar named after Florida Georgia Line. That duo broke up and so is their bar. BUT…Lainey Wilson is going to take that space for her new bar. So we’ve lost one and gained two more in Nashville.

I can’t wait for the Jellyroll Honkytonk to open that will only let those with tattoos enter.

This observation from comedian Mitch Hedberg who admitted, “I did comedy for a fundraiser once. We were trying to raise money to buy one of those machines that shows how much money has been raised.”

A group of rock climbers got stuck on Yadang Mountain in China because the mountain was overcrowded. So many people were climbing the rock that the line slowed down and some hung to a rope for an hour or more before they could move.

This is why more people should choose Pickleball as opposed to mountain climbing. If the court gets crowded you can always grab your paddle and go home.

I’ll be writing with my friend Jenny Tolman and her husband Dave Brainard today. She’s stacking up songs for her new project so we’ll be trying to write something that might work for that.

I get asked every now and then about the song I wrote with them “Lonely In The Lonestar” that was written about a wife losing her husband at war. That’s the song that the wife of a Kabul veteran who was killed and she found the song and Jenny and Dave flew out to Wyoming for the soldier’s memorial and Fox News covered the story about our song and the soldier’s wife. If you’ve never seen that…here’s the FOX story and the song.

13 soldiers in all were lost that day.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
