Hump Day...Up The Chart...Jerked Chicken

Wednesday May 29, 2024

Wednesday is here and it’s the last “Hump Day” of the month. And it’s going to be really nice in Nashville with sun and a high of just 78.

I had an open day yesterday so Tuesday was spent getting to the gym and doing some work to get ready for the studio and a writing session today. More on that at the end of today’s Blog.

Rick Lang who’s new album “Blue Collar Gospel” is out now with a couple of songs of mine on it. One that you’ve been reading about here, the title track that was written with Rick and Jerry Salley and was recorded by Jerry Salley & the Oak Ridge Boys continues to land on some music charts. Nice to see it at #5 on this one! So proud to be part of this tune. And it’s really fun watching it take hold on a few charts.

So I have this funny tune I perform a lot when I do shows titled “The Question Song”. The song was inspired by the kind of comedy that Steven Wright does.

It poses unanswerable questions (I thought) like “Why do women go to bathrooms in packs”? And then this one, “Who jerked the first chicken? What’s up with that”?

Well, my funny friend and co-writer Brent Burns is on vacation right now in Jamaica and posted a video with the answer to that question. Funny. Check THIS out.

This Friday night I’ll be at the world famous Station Inn here in Nashville for a “live” album release party for my friend Kristy Cox. She’ll be singing every song on this new project with her band including three songs that I helped write, including this one that she posted about yesterday on her socials.

One of the greatest rewards I think for anyone who writes songs is when you get to hear the artist sing them “live”. The album “Let It Burn” will be out this Friday with those songs on it.

The WHO is saying COVID-19 wiped out a decade of life expectancy gains.

A new study is suggesting that Statins can help prevent heart disease in older adults.

Another study suggests that feeding peanuts to babies could prevent allergies through the teen years.

I thought I was growing stronger with age!

The use of AI technology and whether it’s good or bad is being debated back and forth like a bad pickleball match by lots of folks these days. To me, it’s how AI is used. This would certainly be a GOOD application.

An AI generated seeing robot dog for the blind. Check out this VIDEO.

Here’s to more of that kind of use with AI.

Cheese rolling. Downhill. They’ve been doing this for years in England. I mentioned yesterday that they will pass out a gold medal at this year’s summer Olympics in Paris for street dancing. Good Lord. If we can hang a medal around some kid for street dancing, why can’t we do the same for the athlete with cheese rolling skills? C’mon!

Or maybe the event should be called “cheese falling” as a lot of folks tumble with their cheddar rolling downhill.

Actor comedian Jim Carrey just cut the price he wants for his LA home for the third time. It’s a bargain now. You can buy it for just 22 million dollars. 12,704 square feet. Wow. “So you’re saying I got a chance!”

Sometimes you can get everything you need at church in just one day.

A busy Wednesday coming up. First I’m in a recording studio helping lay down a new song I wrote with Wil Nance and Irene Kelley. The musicians did their part a few weeks ago while I was over in Germany. Today Wil is going to sing the vocal and then we’ll have something pretty good that we can pitch to some country artists.

And then I go to my publishing company to write new song with talented Addy Levy who plays mandolin, guitar, and fiddle AND sings and writes. Pretty amazing how so many young kids are gifted like her. We’ll have fun creating something today.

Have a great Wednesday!

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
