Darin & Brooke...Wingsuits...Funny Country

Tuesday May 14, 2024

Tuesday morning…and more rain and thunderstorms are moving in. And it looks like we’ll have rain most of the week. Might be enough to drown the cicadas we’ve got.

I wrote something new with Darin & Brooke Aldridge online last night to add to our little catalog of songs together. Brooke pulled up a song we had not finished and I’m glad she did as I had forgotten about it. Turned out to be well worth revisiting. Those two have been so good for my songwriting career having recorded several of my songs on their albums through the years. Including two on their new CD “Talk of the Town”.

Hard for me to pick a favorite, but one of my favorites was this song my friend Lisa Shaffer and I wrote titled “Trying To Make Clocks Slow Down” that was inspired by Jimmy Buffett talking about getting older.

It’s always time well spent when I’m writing with that great bluegrass couple, and last night was no exception.

A study says weight lifting not only strengthen muscles, but it also strengthens the brain.

According to those food experts there are six foods to eat to improve our mood. Pumpkin seeds, fatty fish, avocados, dark leafy greens, and dark chocolate.

And one more study is revealing that a lack of social connections hurts one’s mental health.

I lived in Wisconsin. Not once did I need to walk in to have anything mounted and need to pick up a wedge of cheddar at the same time.

How about the daredevils who jumped out of a helicopter in wing suits and then flew under the London Tower Bridge?  Wow. I’d have to change my wingsuit after doing that. Truly amazing to watch.

The publication Yardbarker listed what they think is the 20 funniest country songs of all time. The list includes “Boy Named Sue” from Johnny Cash, “She Got The Goldmine, I Got The Shaft from Jerry Reed, “Mississippi Squirrel Revival” from Ray Stevens and this classic “You’re The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly” from Conway and Loretta that was also recorded by my late friend the funny Kacey Jones who sang the duet with Delbert McClinton. You can’t get enough “ugly” songs in country music folks.

Here’s thecomplete list.

Krispy Kreme has teamed up with Dolly Parton and for a limited time you can get a dozen of the “Dolly Southern Sweets Doughnut Collection.” Uh huh.

The Dolly Dazzler, the Peachy Keen Cobbler Doughnut, Banana Puddin’ Pie, and the Chocolate Crème Pie.

AND…get this. On May 18 if you dress up like Dolly and walk into a Krispy Kreme you’ll get a free glazed donut.

Wonder if they’ll give me a free one if I walk in dressed like Porter or Kenny?

Folks in Canada, Alaska and the northern U.S. could have another chance of seeing the sky turn purple tonight as that solar storm has lingered a bit and will bring out the northern lights once again. But this time where they normally are…the north. We don’t have southern lights but we do have Nashville lights from all the neon down on Lower Broadway. Folks spend hours staring at those as well.

Short blog this morning as I have an early call thing to do. Back to normal tomorrow.

Have a great Tuesday!

A Writing Session...A Recording Session...New Shows

BILL BLOG Friday April 5, 2024   Friday morning and a weekend is upon us. Still cool here in Nashville with a high of just 54 today but warming back up into the mid 70’s in a couple of days.   YESTERDAY It was a really busy Wednesday that started with writing a new song with Caroline Owens at my publishing company. Something up-tempo and commercial that was very fun to write. You’re going to be hearing more and more about Caroline who’s young and gifted. Plays great guitar…and piano…and sings a bit like Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton if you will.     But the big news from yesterday was after we finished writing and I left my publishing company and our record label signed her as both an artist and a writer. So welcome to our little musical family Caroline!   A great decision by the label for sure.     INTO THE STUDIO I had to fly out of the publishing and make a 45 minute trip to a recording studio where Freedom Sings USA was recording the latest so

Nice Words...Selfies...Studio Today

BILL BLOG Thursday April 4, 2024 Thursday morning be here and it’s most surely cooler. A high of just 50 today.   YESTERDAY I polished up not one but two songs with Irene Kelly yesterday at my publishing company. She had gone through her songs that we have written together and thought we might be able to make those two songs stronger. And we did…she was right. That’s part of the craft sometimes. Going back and listening again and then making some time a make a good song better. Time well spent.   Irene and her two daughters sometimes do shows together that features great HARMONY. In fact, the three of them are headed to France at the end of the month to do some songs there. Here oldest daughter speaks fluent French, and sometimes performs shows singing songs in that language so I’m sure they are going to have a wonderful and fun time in France amazing some of the folks over there.     KIND WORDS Yesterday Troy Engle’s new song “ Never Too Lost ”

Tornado Month...Music In The Mail...Pearl

BILL BLOG Tuesday April 2, 2024   And a happy Tuesday morning to you. All eyes on the weather here in Nashville today. Storms, hail, and the weather folks are looking out for tornadoes.   A bunch of our schools decided to close because of that. 72 high today, but then that weather moves through and tomorrow’s high is only going to be 54. Fingers crossed that this storm doesn’t get crazy on us. It’s April…part of the deal anymore in middle Tennessee it seems.   YESTERDAY I had a free day to do that catching up thing. Got a few things struck off that list. We’re already doing that pre-packing thing for our trip a week from today to see our daughter and her husband over in Germany that we’re really starting to look forward to. Now if we only could find a Star Trek machine to beamed there in minutes instead of a LOT of hours flying…that would be great. But we’re certainly looking forward to seeing scenery with our kids like this.   MUSIC IN THE MAIL I did ge
