Hump Day again! 69 for a high this Wednesday in Nashville.

YESTERDAY

Well I wrote a very fun duet yesterday with two of those young talented kids Alex Miller from American Idol and Emily Ann Roberts from The Voice from an idea I brought in.  Alex is from Kentucky, Emily for east Tennessee and both are “country” with a capital “C”. So, we wrote something country for the two of them to do as a duet. And they both flipped over the idea which is always a good sign.

Both stay very busy on the road. Emily is getting ready to open a whole bunch of shows for her “Voice” coach out on the road…Blake Shelton which will be great for her.  And Alex is out promoting his current single “Putting Up Hay”. (I told you he was COUNTRY right?)

GOOD NEWS

And then last night Jerry Salley, the head of Billy Blue Records called me at the house to tell me that Alex had sent him the song and that he loved it so much that he is going to record a duet of them for sure on this song. That never happens. You write the song in the morning, and then that evening you find out they’re going to record it?  This is going to be a very fun record. Thank you Jerry and Alex and Emily Ann.

MORE GOOD NEWS

This single from Australian Alan Mackey featuring TC Cassidy will be released in Australia Friday as the new single from Alan. I should be able to share this song here on the Friday or Monday blog about a Senorita who always dances alone. They sent me an advance copy and I absolutely love what they did with this tune that I wrote with Alan and Australian producer-artist Angus Gill. I’m hoping it will get some significant airplay Down Under.

HEALTH NOTES

The CDC says 36 million Americans have received the updated COVID vaccine.

New research says those who want to get vaccinated should get the flu and COVID shots at the same time for maximum benefit.

A new study shows that women are now living 6 years longer than men. That difference has increased over the past few years.

???

I THINK this sign is designed to get people to stop smoking….I think.

DOLLY

How about Dolly Parton? The Tennessee Volunteers have a big game against the #1 powerhouse team Georgia in Knoxville this weekend. Nobody will pick Tennessee…so they need all the help they can get. And that’s where Dolly comes in. She’s going to show up and sing “Rocky Top” to try and fire up the crowd and the team on Saturday.

Rocky Top is the team’s national anthem and was written in nearby Gatlinburg in a room at the Gatlinburg Inn one day by the famed married writing duo Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. How much power does a song have?  I guess we’ll see Saturday.

SPEAKING OF SINGERS

There will be a Taylor Swift themed cruise in October 2024. No, Taylor will not be on board. But I’m pretty sure the ship will fill up quickly with “Swifties”. And maybe Travis Kelce lookalikes. Who knows.

UNDIE FOOTBALL

Quite the revelation from KC Quarterback Patrick Mahomes who told the world that he’s worn the same underwear for every NFL game he’s played in so for. Some kind of good luck charm. Okay then. I’ve checked, I don’t think I have one pair of lucky underwear in my drawer.

PERFUME

Sephora has removed all its perfume bottle from shelves. That’s because it’s a popular item to steal. So now you’ll have to ask a clerk to bring you a bottle. It’s fairly expensive too. I don’t have that worry myself with fragrances because I’m pretty sure now burglar in interested in stealing Old Spice.

HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

A horse got loose on an airplane flying out of New York in Cargo section. They had to turn around, land and secure Flicka. Wouldn’t you have loved to have heard the conversation from the pilot to the tower on why they were turning around?

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Man Accused of Killing Lawyer Receives a New Attorney. (Of course he did)

TODAY

I’m off to write with my Aussie friend Katrina Burgoyne who’s fun new single (that I did not write) is out titled “Hubby In A Honkytonk” that’s great fun and is mostly a true story about how she met her now husband and soon Father to be Steve.

Have a great Wednesday!

BILL BLOG Friday August 25, 2023   The weekend approaches. It’s Friday! A cool 100 degree high expected here in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Irene Kelley yesterday at my publishing company. Irene played at the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival last weekend as did I and while we were there she shared a funny idea for a song she had. So yesterday we tackled that and had great fun with it. Irene is a terrific well know bluegrass artist, was an MCA mainstream artist at one time and has had had several stars record her songs like Alan Jackson did with this great country song “ I’m A Little Bluer Than That .”   But like a lot of artists, she didn’t have a funny song in her catalog. So we solved that problem yesterday for her and laughed while doing it.  Her current bluegrass single is on the charts and doing well right now “ Yellow Brick Highway ”. Good day yesterday.   SPEAKING OF BLUEGRASS On the way back home after my songwriting session I had

Baseball Night...Hot Golf Joke...Pumpkin Already

BILL BLOG Wednesday August 16, 2023   Here comes another Hump Day Wednesday. Cooler today with a high of just 81.   YESTERDAY I came down with a little something apparently during the Little Rock trip last weekend, so yesterday it turned out to be a good thing that my writing appointment had to be rescheduled as I spent the day just resting. And it’s paid off as I’m good to go again today.   In fact I felt well enough to go the ballpark last night and chill out watching our Triple A Brewers affiliated team the “Sounds” play a little baseball.     And what a gorgeous evening to watch baseball as the temps actually dropped into the 70’s last night. Perfect. And getting outdoors made me feel better as well so I’m grateful for that.      UPCOMING SHOWS Here’s the next few shows on my calendar.   This weekend August 18 & 19 it’s the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival.     Saturday August 26 I’m with “Hits & Grins” for the Terry and Wanda Seay House Concert
