Port St. Joe...Christmas Show In Nashville...Country Singers

BILL BLOG

Friday October 20, 2023

And a good Friday morning to you from beautiful Port St. Joe, Florida. 80 degrees and nothing but sun today here on the Forgotten Coast.

 YESTERDAY

I made the drive from Nashville to Port St. Joe for the Blast on the Bay Songwriters festival and was greeted with perfect Florida weather. This is going to be fun. Our “Hits & Grins” trio with Steve Dean, Victoria Venier and myself are headed to the local school for a 30 minute show the kids there and then we play at a great venue on the water this evening The Scallop Republic at 5:30 pm.

LAST NIGHT

The trio got settled into a three bedroom house that the festival set up for us. Thank you. Everyone was tired from the road trip in two separate cars so we skipped the VIP party because of late arrivals and went to dinner at a place we like here called the Krazy Fish Grill which is one of the venues this week at Blast on the Bay.

We’re not playing this venue this week which we hate, but we did see THIS sign outside the Krazy Fish that made us laugh.

Then we stocked up on some groceries and got into bed to get up for the early school appointment we have this morning.

MERCY CHEFS CONCERT

On the drive down I had time to reflect on the amazing evening I was part of Thursday night with some great musical friends hosted by Lang Scott & Linda Davis for the Mercy Chefs organization. Find out more about their amazing work at the link.

All the talent was so great and wonderful to hear. And my friend Lauren Mascitti who sang brought along her Nana who raise here and Nana takes LOTS of pictures and videos which we all appreciate. She sent me this one of the song I wrote with Lauren and Jimmy Fortune titled “Apple On The Tree” that I thought you might enjoy.

Truly a wonderful evening with a lot of big talent and big hearts. You can find out more about that concert in yesterday’s blog if you’d like.

NEW SHOW

Our “Hits & Grins” trio will return to Puckett’s in Franklin for a Christmas show on December 9. We just played there a few weeks ago but Steve Dean could not be there because his Father Frank passed away and songwriter Danny Wells had to fill in. So the entire trio will be there spreading some Christmas cheer. Details are on the Tour part of the website. But plan on joining us and getting into the Christmas spirit.

HEALTH NOTES

A health expert tells us we should pass on complimentary snacks served at a restaurant. (And my first thought after reading this was, which restaurants?)

Meanwhile a major study claims to identify the root cause of obesity. Fructose.

Word is that Pfizer is doubling the cost of Paxlovid.

FUNNY

“Instead of cleaning my house, I just watch an episode of “The Hoarders,” and think, “Wow! My house looks great.”

HAPPINESS

A writer asked his reader to list some simple things that make them happy. Here are a few that caught my eye and made me happy.

Hitting the EXACT number when getting gas.

Hearing your favorite song come on the radio.

Hearing your baby’s first words.

And my favorite…getting constant green lights. Hallelujah!

SPEAKING OF FAVORITE SONGS

An album of frog noises is available to purchase. I can’t make this stuff up folks. And apparently a lot of FOLKS have hopped on line to buy it.

HALLOWEEN

Just so you’ll be able to sleep at night…my wife and I will NOT be trick or treating in this costume. You are so welcome.

BEST COUNTRY SINGERS

The publication Singers Room listed their top 5 country singers of all time. 5. Willie, 4. Garth, 3. George Strait, 2. Hank Williams. And their number one choice was the Man in Black…Johnny Cash.

We’d all pick a different list I’m sure but that’s not bad. I might have included George Jones in my top 5…they had him at #11.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Bride To Be Disinvites Sister Over Fear That She Would Flash Wedding Guests With Racy Dress. (You can pick your friends folks but you can’t pick your sister.)

TODAY
Off to do a 30 minute show at the elementary school here in Port St. Joe. Then this evening at 5:30 pm another show here at Blast on the Bay at the Scallop Republic. Having fun on the beach this.

Tomorrow two more shows and then I have one more on Sunday before I make the trip from here to Gulf Shores for MOTM where over 3,000 Parrot Heads are expected for the week.

Have a great weekend!

Funny Co-Write...Wildflower Too...House Concert Saturday

BILL BLOG Friday August 25, 2023   The weekend approaches. It’s Friday! A cool 100 degree high expected here in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Irene Kelley yesterday at my publishing company. Irene played at the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival last weekend as did I and while we were there she shared a funny idea for a song she had. So yesterday we tackled that and had great fun with it. Irene is a terrific well know bluegrass artist, was an MCA mainstream artist at one time and has had had several stars record her songs like Alan Jackson did with this great country song “ I’m A Little Bluer Than That .”   But like a lot of artists, she didn’t have a funny song in her catalog. So we solved that problem yesterday for her and laughed while doing it.  Her current bluegrass single is on the charts and doing well right now “ Yellow Brick Highway ”. Good day yesterday.   SPEAKING OF BLUEGRASS On the way back home after my songwriting session I had

Baseball Night...Hot Golf Joke...Pumpkin Already

BILL BLOG Wednesday August 16, 2023   Here comes another Hump Day Wednesday. Cooler today with a high of just 81.   YESTERDAY I came down with a little something apparently during the Little Rock trip last weekend, so yesterday it turned out to be a good thing that my writing appointment had to be rescheduled as I spent the day just resting. And it’s paid off as I’m good to go again today.   In fact I felt well enough to go the ballpark last night and chill out watching our Triple A Brewers affiliated team the “Sounds” play a little baseball.     And what a gorgeous evening to watch baseball as the temps actually dropped into the 70’s last night. Perfect. And getting outdoors made me feel better as well so I’m grateful for that.      UPCOMING SHOWS Here’s the next few shows on my calendar.   This weekend August 18 & 19 it’s the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival.     Saturday August 26 I’m with “Hits & Grins” for the Terry and Wanda Seay House Concert
