BILL BLOG
Tuesday October 17, 2023
Tuesday morning has rolled in. Cool again today with a high of just 64.
YESTERDAY
For those of you old enough to remember Mr. Magoo…I did a very Magoo type thing yesterday. I drove about 30 miles for a 7 AM dentist appointment only to get to the front desk to tell me I was there a month too soon! Geez. Although, it doesn’t bother me a bit to postpone sitting in a chair while someone is sticking a metal instrument in my mouth. And so my day opened up.
SHOWS
I did spend some time working on upcoming shows yesterday. I’m playing the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival as I have for years coming up in November. The festival has me slated for three shows, two with “Hits & Grins” and another with Freedom Sings USA where the songwriters there will be performing songs written with veterans to honor Veterans Day.
Those shows will run November 9-11 in Gulf Shores-Orange Beach Alabama.
But Brent Burns and I are close to announcing another date prior to the Festival on November 8. I should be able to announce that venue within the next couple of days.
IN TOWN
And I have a show slated for December 21 at Reba’s old farm that’s now an event venue. I just found out my “Hits and Grins” buddy Steve Dean will also be part of that show as well. It’s open to the public. Ticket price and more info on that one coming soon but the basic info is on my “Tour” section here of the website. So if you’ve ever wanted to see what Reba’s mansion looks like? Here’s your chance.
HEALTH NOTES
A study tells us that Omega-3 helps keep the lungs healthy. If you don’t like swallowing pills then try fatty fish…like salmon.
Paris has had an outbreak of bedbugs. Apparently that has spread worldwide as the danged things are showing up in more and more places around the world.
More research is suggesting if you breathe in orange essential oil it can lower your cortisol levels by 84% and that would counter both stress and carb cravings. (I’m so behind the times. The only essential oil I have is WD-40)
WAIT…WHAT?
GUITARS
Okay…I’m addicted to guitars. I don’t even know how this happened.
But I feel better about those that I own as a read a list of the 12 most popular acoustic guitars. I have 7 of the 12 including a Martin that my friend Darin Aldridge found for me in a guitar shop in North Carolina that’s currently my favorite of those I do own. And to this day I wish I would have held on to the first guitar I played which was an old Sears Silvertone that my Mom bought right out of the Sears and Roebuck catalog back in the day. I’ll bet it didn’t cost 50 bucks back then.
HMMM….DO I NEED ONE OF THESE?
A refrigerator for the car? And you can control the temperature with your phone. Tempting.
TOP 10 HALLOWEEN COSTUMES
According to the Halloween costume folks.
10 Bunny
9 Ninja
8 Cowboy
7 Dinosaur
6 Wednesday Addams
5 Fairy
4 Witch
3 Spiderman
2 Princess
And by far the #1 costume you’ll be seeing at your Trick or Treat door this year will be Barbie.
The bed-sheet with a hole in it for those who want to be ghosts like I was? Didn’t make the list.
WHAT HAPPENED TO?
My Space. They were THE thing before Facebook…then gone. There’s a documentary coming out on My Space that should provide some answers. We miss it about as much as we miss dial up internet don’t we?
ANOTHER LIST
Interesting what kids call their grandparents. To 5 Grandma names in reverse order are Bibi, Gran, Mimi, Nana, and number 1 is Gigi. (Never heard anyone call a granny Gigi)
For Grandpa’s? Again in reverse order. Granddude (love that) G-Pa, Paps, Pops, and number 1 is Poppy.
I have grandcats. And they don’t call me anything.
HEADLINE OF THE DAY
Parents Keep Kids Home To Protest School Closure. (Yep. I’m trying to wrap my head around that one)
TODAY
I’m online writing with a lyricist Brent Baxter who’s from Arkansas, lived in Nashville chasing hits for a long time and is now in Missouri with his wife and several adopted kids still writing songs. Brent is one of the writers on the song “Crickets” that we wrote together with Lisa Shaffer that Joe Nichols recorded.
And Brent is introducing me to a female bluegrass artist today from Arkansas by the name of Casey Penn. So it will be our first time meeting and rhyming together. Looking forward to seeing what we can come up with.
Have a great Tuesday!
