The Voice Kids...Shows Ahead...The Office

BILL BLOG

Tuesday September 26, 2023

Hello Tuesday morning. It’s getting darker sooner, which I really hate. But it’s still warm like summer. 89 the high today.

YESTERDAY

I wrote with The Voice 2020 winner Todd Tilghman for the second time yesterday. Todd’s been busy out on the road is getting ready to open a show for Josh Turner which is a great pairing. Todd has been a preacher, but these days because of the success he had on “The Voice” he’s doing a lot of singing dates, traveling, and writing songs.

So it was kind of cool to write a new song with him called “Preacher Man” which has part of his personal life in it. Fits him pretty well to say the least.

It’s great writing with kids from American Idol and The Voice because I get to hear their stories about their experiences on the show. Todd chose Blake Shelton for his coach after a 4 turn chair but told me he almost changed his mind and picked Kelly Clarkson who loved him. His audition was in Atlanta and he waited behind hundreds and hundreds of other contestants for his 30 seconds to sing before one pre-judge. Worked out pretty well for him I’d say. It was fun being in the room with him again yesterday.

UP AHEAD

This week has been like the lull before the show storm. Starting next week the calendar gets pretty busy with travel dates and shows and festivals. Here’s a look.

October 2nd …a showcase in Maryville, Tennessee with Linda Davis & Lang Scott and our “Evening in the Round” show.

October 7… Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant in Franklin, TN with “Hits & Grins” with Steve Dean & Victoria Venier.

October 18… a private event fundraiser songwriter event with Linda Davis, Lang Scott, Bobby Tomberlin and Lauren Mascitti.

October 20-23…Blast on the Bay Songwriters Festival Port. St. Joe, Florida

October 24-29…MOTM “Meeting of the Minds” Gulf Shores, Alabama.

November 9-11…Frank Brown Songwriters Festival Gulf Shores.

See you on the road somewhere…I hope.

CONGRATS

To my co-writer friend Jordan Rainer who got a 4-chair turnlast night on “The Voice” which was no surprise to me. She’s going to do well on the show. Last night’s audition didn’t even show off her guitar skills which are pretty great. And she made a gutsy move by choosing to sing the Reba hit "Fancy" in front of Reba.  I’ll be rooting for her this season for sure.

HEALTH NOTES

A new study says the blue light from phones, tablets and TV sets may induce early puberty.

Free in home COVID tests are available by mail starting today at COVIDTests.gov

A cardiologist says if you want a heathier heart to avoid these two dinner foods. Hot dogs and canned soups. (I think I’m in trouble as I like to slice a hot dog and put the slices into my canned soup!)

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

The publication “Stasher” put together what they say are the WORST tourist attractions in the world. Their top 4 are Busch Gardens in Florida, the Taj Mahal, the Great Bazaar in Turkey and at number one is the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I might have selected the Mustard Museum in Wisconsin to be on the list as well. How in the world can a condiment be an attraction?

BACK TO WORK

Apparently New Yorkers are going back to the office. It’s been a slow reluctant return since COVID 2020. But the New York subway folks say there are a lot more riders every day…going to offices.

THEY PAID WHAT?

At auction some tickets for the play where Lincoln was assassinated fetched $262,000. Even if I win the Powerball this week which is now worth 835 million bucks, I don’t ever see me paying money for Lincoln assassination tickets. Nope. Just shoot ME if I even think about that.

HELMET HEADS

Middle of summer early Fall I can’t imagine being in a mascot outfit at a sporting event. Nor can I imagine how hot those football helmets must be in hot weather. LSU decided to do something about that and the kids there now have air conditioned helmets. Why did that take so long to come around?

THE OFFICE
One of my favorite comedy sitcoms may be coming back as there is a lot of talk now about a reboot for “The Office” TV show. So funny. The bad news is that Steve Carrell and John Krasinski won’t return, but some of the cast probably will. Replacing Carrell will be a tall order but we’ll see. And would Dwight be coming back with his beet farm?

Now if I can get them to reboot Cheers, Seinfeld, and M*A*S*H?  I’d be a happy TV camper for sure.

SIGNS

I’m pretty sure this sign is not getting the point across.

TODAY

I’m writing with my longtime Missouri pal Wil Nance today out at his place that has chickens, and a pond and cats and dogs and a new house he just built on it. We may have to wet a line before we rhyme.

Have a great Tuesday!

Funny Co-Write...Wildflower Too...House Concert Saturday

BILL BLOG Friday August 25, 2023   The weekend approaches. It’s Friday! A cool 100 degree high expected here in Nashville today.   YESTERDAY I wrote with Irene Kelley yesterday at my publishing company. Irene played at the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival last weekend as did I and while we were there she shared a funny idea for a song she had. So yesterday we tackled that and had great fun with it. Irene is a terrific well know bluegrass artist, was an MCA mainstream artist at one time and has had had several stars record her songs like Alan Jackson did with this great country song “ I’m A Little Bluer Than That .”   But like a lot of artists, she didn’t have a funny song in her catalog. So we solved that problem yesterday for her and laughed while doing it.  Her current bluegrass single is on the charts and doing well right now “ Yellow Brick Highway ”. Good day yesterday.   SPEAKING OF BLUEGRASS On the way back home after my songwriting session I had

Baseball Night...Hot Golf Joke...Pumpkin Already

BILL BLOG Wednesday August 16, 2023   Here comes another Hump Day Wednesday. Cooler today with a high of just 81.   YESTERDAY I came down with a little something apparently during the Little Rock trip last weekend, so yesterday it turned out to be a good thing that my writing appointment had to be rescheduled as I spent the day just resting. And it’s paid off as I’m good to go again today.   In fact I felt well enough to go the ballpark last night and chill out watching our Triple A Brewers affiliated team the “Sounds” play a little baseball.     And what a gorgeous evening to watch baseball as the temps actually dropped into the 70’s last night. Perfect. And getting outdoors made me feel better as well so I’m grateful for that.      UPCOMING SHOWS Here’s the next few shows on my calendar.   This weekend August 18 & 19 it’s the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival.     Saturday August 26 I’m with “Hits & Grins” for the Terry and Wanda Seay House Concert
