Friday morning and here comes the weekend. 80 degree high in Music City today.

YESTERDAY

I had an off day yesterday, another today, in fact the weekend is wide open as well. I’ll be enjoying that as the month of June is going to be very busy with road gigs.

WHY I LIKE BASEBALL

I was in a dinner table conversation Thursday evening with a gentleman from the UK who was visiting Nashville for the first time. Turns out he’s a huge NFL fan, so much so that he came over here once to see a Super Bowl in Miami. Then I told him how many times I had tried to get into their “futbol” game “soccer” and just could not get into it. He then said, “that’s okay…I don’t get baseball”. And that of course is my favorite sport of all. He’s gone home, but I’d love to send him a video of what happened last night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis when the Cardinals played the Dodgers and in one inning hit back to back to back to back homeruns! 4 in a row! I watch a lot of baseball. Don’t know that I’ve ever seen that happen. If I can get my friend this video in might convert him to America’s Pastime.

SIGNS

I’m always looking at funny signs as I sometimes talk about them when I’m on stage. Signs like “Nervous Nellie’s Fireworks and Liquor” that’s just north of Nashville.

Yesterday my friend Steve Dean texted me about one he saw in Panama City where he’s on vacation with his family. The store is called “Sunglasses and Jell-O Shots”. Seems like a beach kind of combo doesn’t it.

And yesterday my neighbor who plays bass guitar for Lee Brice sent me a picture of this business.

I’m not sure how that works exactly. Are they drawing back a Cheshire instead of an arrow?

HEALTH NOTES

A doctors says we should not use hydrogen-peroxide to clean the wax out of our ears. It could irritate or possibly damage the ear. (Now he tells me)

A study suggests that Chia seeds can help with weight loss. They expand in your body making you feel fuller than you are and you have less of an appetite.

The University of Auckland is working on a phone app designed to cure tinnitus.

THINKING OF…

Both Jimmy Buffett and Bonnie Raitt who are dealing with health issues. Bonnie is 73 and has surgery for a medical situation and the word is she’s feeling better every day.

Jimmy just put himself back in a hospital again for a second time over the past few months. The head Coral Reefer canceled a bunch of shows, was ready to hit the stage again and then had to be hospitalized again. I’m sure all of Parrot Head Nation has him in their prayers today. In his statement Jimmy admitted, “growing old is not for sissies.”

MEMORIAL DAY

I know Memorial Day is sneaking up because I can’t stop seeing ads for grills on sale. I gave up my grill years ago. But, ole George Foreman is still on my kitchen counters so I’m good.

And then there’s this grilling joke.

A guy said “My mouth waters when I smell steak on a grill. I wonder if the same happens to vegans when they mow the lawn”?

THE LITTLER BIG APPLE

New York City is indeed losing folks. 5% of their population has moved out since COVID…most headed a south…and most of those wound up in Florida. That’s a half million folks gone from the Big Apple.

I look for them to build their own version of the retirement community “The Villages”. They’ll name their separate villages the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

BAD BOYS

Man, here’s to the men and women in blue. And here’s to this officer who jumped on the hood of a car with gun drawn while the car is moving with the suspect inside in Iowa. Unbelievable. Watch this.

THE WEEKEND

Hard to believe I have a calendar full of nothing on it this weekend. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with my free time, but I’m pretty sure my wife does.

Have a great weekend.

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Record Warmth...A Travel V-Log...No I Do

BILL BLOG Friday February 24, 2023   Friday morning and we’re headed for the last weekend of February already.   YESTERDAY My songwriting appointment cancelled yesterday after my co-writer called and let me know he wasn’t feeling 100% so that gave me the day open and I got out just a bit to enjoy the warm weather. It hit 80 degrees yesterday and that broke a 127-year-old record. The highest temperature on February 23 before yesterday was 74 and that was way back in 1897.    Folks had their AC on here in Music City yesterday. Amazing. It’s starting to feel like baseball weather around here.   Little cooler today with a high on tap of just 51.   And it’s not that long until we do spring forward in time. That’s coming up on March 12…just a couple of weeks away.   MARCH SHOWS With February coming to an end, here’s a look at a couple of shows I have on the books in March.   March 10 and 11 at Dollywood for a festival to celebrate the 50 th Anniver

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,
