Opening Day...Odd Garth Movie...Show In Virginia

BILL BLOG

Friday March 31, 2023

Friday morning, the last day of March, and a road trip to Virginia happens this morning. Got a little rain to deal with along the way.

YESTERDAY

Man, we are having some gorgeous days in middle Tennessee right now. Sunshine and the temperatures have been hanging around 70 degrees. We have a little view of Old Hickory Lake outside our windows and when the sun is out like it is these days it’s truly a serene sight. Good way to start my morning every morning. Cup of coffee, sun coming up over the lake outside my blogging window…hard to beat.

I got to the gym, got completely packed for the 9-hour trip to Virginia that starts in a couple of hours with Linda Davis and Lang Scott for our show in Stephens City VA tomorrow evening. Looking forward to seeing and spending a little time with my sister Vickie over there.

BASEBALL

I did take in a bit of Opening Day baseball yesterday. All is right with the world now!

I caught Cardinal pitcher Adam Wainwright singing the National Anthem at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and that was cool. He did well…as that’s a very tough song to sing. I’ve done that at a hockey game and a baseball game so I know how that feels. Weak knees and you PRAY that you don’t forget the words and that you don’t miss the high note at the end.

The new rules are working too…especially the new pitch clock to help speed games up. Yesterday the Cubs-Brewers game played out in just 2 hours and 21 minutes. That’s the shortest opening day game in 35 years!  It’s working.

My Reds lost their opener but it just felt right to turn the TV on and see real baseball games again.

KENTUCKY GIG

Stay tuned Kentucky. Our “Hits & Grins” trio with Steve Dean and Victoria Venier are working on announcing a date in the “Wildcat” state and a long-standing venue many country music fans will know. Maybe more than one gig there actually. The owners of the venue were at Dollywood a few weekends ago and caught our show and think we’d be a perfect fit for their place. We do too! As soon as we confirm the date, I’ll post the venue name and all the details.

HEALTH NOTES

Well, after so much good news that I could post on this blog about COVID yesterday, today the WHO says it’s keeping a very wary eye on yet another new variant. Here comes XBB.1.5.

Some of those “in the know” folk say that higher magnesium intake is linked to lower dementia risk.

And some medical experts thing by 2069 we could see record lifespans. More folks living to be really old folks because of the advances coming in the medical field.

MARRIAGE JOKE

I’m thinking the husband here is in BIG trouble with his response.

On the first day of our marriage retreat, the instructor talked about the importance of knowing what matters to each other.

“For example,” he began, pointing to my husband David, “do you know your wife’s favorite flower?”

David answered, “Pillsbury All Purpose”.

TRIBUTE ALBUMS

There’s a new album out featuring a lot of your favorite country artists singing the songs of the Rolling Stones like “Paint It Black” by the Zac Brown Band which is cool. The album is titled “Stoned Cold Country”. Fun to listen to. There have been several albums like this. Country stars singing the songs of The Eagles also cool. And there are others. My question is, wonder of the rock acts will ever do a tribute album of George Jones, Merle Haggard, or Hank Williams songs. Although, I don’t think I want to hear Ozzy Osbourne sing “He Stopped Loving Her Today”. So…maybe not.

MORE COUNTRY…AND THIS IS ODD

How about and independent film about Garth Brooks meeting George Jones before the Possum’s head is cryogenically frozen?  Uh huh. There’s some outside of the box thinking. Check out the TRAILER here and see what you think. The movie is titled “Country Gold”. And honestly, as skeptical as I was about it…it’s oddly darkly interesting. Different.

WE LIVE IN A STRANGE TIME

A former President was indicted. First time in our history. With that news demand for Stormy Daniels merchandise has shot through the roof. We live in a strange time.

FOR A TRUCK?

The Ford Electric truck the Lightning is in demand. The price just jumped yet another $4,000. The truck now STARTS at $61,869. For a danged truck that needs a cord.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

Man Accused of Killing Lawyer Receives a New Attorney. (Okay then)

TODAY
Time to hit the road for the show in Virginia. 9 hours over, then the show tomorrow night.

Have a great weekend!

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Record Warmth...A Travel V-Log...No I Do

BILL BLOG Friday February 24, 2023   Friday morning and we’re headed for the last weekend of February already.   YESTERDAY My songwriting appointment cancelled yesterday after my co-writer called and let me know he wasn’t feeling 100% so that gave me the day open and I got out just a bit to enjoy the warm weather. It hit 80 degrees yesterday and that broke a 127-year-old record. The highest temperature on February 23 before yesterday was 74 and that was way back in 1897.    Folks had their AC on here in Music City yesterday. Amazing. It’s starting to feel like baseball weather around here.   Little cooler today with a high on tap of just 51.   And it’s not that long until we do spring forward in time. That’s coming up on March 12…just a couple of weeks away.   MARCH SHOWS With February coming to an end, here’s a look at a couple of shows I have on the books in March.   March 10 and 11 at Dollywood for a festival to celebrate the 50 th Anniver

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,
