Texas-Florida Shows...Dollywood....Jarts

BILL BLOG

Wednesday February 1, 2023

The first day of February!  Wednesday morning and a lot of middle Tennessee is under the threat of icy roads. 41 for a high today so it should be short lived here. 18 million Americans were affected by ice storms yesterday. 1700 flights were cancelled.

YESTERDAY

Boy, it was a bleak, cold day in Nashville yesterday. With no writing appointments I changed guitar strings in preparation for the McAllen Texas show tomorrow night with my “Hits & Grins” trio with Victoria Venier & Steve Dean at their BEAUTIFUL Performing Arts Center.

Then Friday night I have two shows in Boca Grande, Florida. The 5 pm show there is sold out for our “Evening in the Round” shows with Linda Davis, Lang Scott & me. I’ve got a very early bird in the morning to Texas, so there will be a very short blog here tomorrow morning, and maybe none on Friday as I’m up early there for the flight to Florida. And the packing today should be fun trying to mix warm weather with colder weather clothes for this run. And I’m certainly hoping that the weather won’t affect any of the flights.

DOLLY

I got the official logo for a great event our “Hits & Grins” trio will play on both March 10 and 11 at Dollywood. We are very pleased to be the opening act for this great series of songwriters that will help celebrate Dolly’s mega-hit. 50 years ago!

TRACK OF THE DAY

The new Irene Kelley album “Snow White Memories” is getting some wonderful reviews, and the song we wrote together for it “Satan Get BehindMe” is also getting pointed out in a nice way. The album release party will be Thursday night February 9 at the world-famous Station Inn here in town that will feature Irene and a full bluegrass band playing every song off this great new project. I’ll be there for that, and if you’re in town, come by and join us! 9 pm show that evening.

VIRUS NOTES AND HEALTH

Apparently there are a lot of folks that come down with a LINGERING cough after having COVID. Been there. Some coughs can last a year or more. Fortunately, mind didn’t last that long, but long enough that it became an annoyance for sure. An infectious disease expert claims that 17-34% of patients come down with that lingering cough.

Pfizer made 51 BILLION dollars last year. This year they say it will drop to just 21.5 million as everyone has plenty of inventory right now.

The birthrate increased for the first time in the past 7 years. 366 million babies were born in 2021. A COVID rebound happened apparently after a lot of couples decided to wait COVID out before trying.

14 DAYS

Until Valentine Day. What to get for the person you love.

I did read another list of what NOT to give. Money, a vacuum cleaner, and a bathroom scale were all listed. Yep. That would kind of take the “ro” out of romance on that day I would think.

SPEAKING OF ROMANCE

Here’s a marriage joke. “I married my wife for her looks, but not the one’s she’s giving me lately”.

DANGEROUS TOYS

The list I looked at included: Slingshots, Slip N Slides, and those Lawn Jarts. Surely some doctor has had to remove a lawn Jart at one time or another from someone. I do know one never wants to play lawn Jarts when someone who sharpens their Jarts before they start tossing.

SPEAKING OF GAMES

Nashville will soon have its own Monopoly Board Game. You can actually vote as to which locations you want to show up on the board. The Ryman, The Opry, The Parthenon, Tootsies, The Country Music Hall of Fame. Belle Meade Mansion would be some of my guesses.

I wonder if a biscuit will be one of the game tokens?

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

“Man Bites Off Pet Pythons Snake’s Head in Domestic Dispute, Police Say”. Ya know what? There are just some things in this world are just too weird for a funny comeback. I don’t think I’ll sleep well tonight.

TODAY

Packing for the trip. But tonight I’m going to see my friend Lauren Mascitti and her “Trio” friend perform. Lauren and I wrote a song with Kristen Bearfield a couple of months ago from an idea I had that was written to sound like some of those great songs THE TRIO with Emmy Lou, Dolly and Linda Ronstadt recorded back in the day. It must have worked as Lauren and her two friends are going to sing that song tonight. Can’t wait to hear that.

Have a great Wednesday!

Dollywood Shows...A Rocket Gone...In-A-Gadda

BILL BLOG Wednesday January 25, 2023   Another Hump Day to get over. 52 with light rain in Music City today. Rain fits the melancholy I feel as I got word that my daughter and son in law touched down in Germany where they will be stationed with the Army for the next three years. The positive news is that my wife and I will be making trips to Europe to seem them and the beautiful scenery that now surrounds them. I’m going to Google and see if Tom Bodet has a light on for us there.   YESTERDAY I wrote with David Morris at a recording studio my publishing company owns. David signed a deal several months ago with my publishing company as well so we’re sort in the same family. David lives out east but comes to town regularly and stays a week or so to co-write with other folks as he did with me yesterday. He brought with him a true story of a friend who passed away recently and said something that made quite the impact with David. It’s all about not fooling yourself

Record Warmth...A Travel V-Log...No I Do

BILL BLOG Friday February 24, 2023   Friday morning and we’re headed for the last weekend of February already.   YESTERDAY My songwriting appointment cancelled yesterday after my co-writer called and let me know he wasn’t feeling 100% so that gave me the day open and I got out just a bit to enjoy the warm weather. It hit 80 degrees yesterday and that broke a 127-year-old record. The highest temperature on February 23 before yesterday was 74 and that was way back in 1897.    Folks had their AC on here in Music City yesterday. Amazing. It’s starting to feel like baseball weather around here.   Little cooler today with a high on tap of just 51.   And it’s not that long until we do spring forward in time. That’s coming up on March 12…just a couple of weeks away.   MARCH SHOWS With February coming to an end, here’s a look at a couple of shows I have on the books in March.   March 10 and 11 at Dollywood for a festival to celebrate the 50 th Anniver

Blackouts...Christmas...Looking For Audrey

BILL BLOG Monday December 26, 2022 Monday morning and I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! They’re actually calling for a little light snow in Nashville this morning with a high above freezing. Almost 40 degrees for a high today and back up close to 70 by the weekend.   CHRISTMAS WEEKEND Well, we went through the really cold weather too. Down near zero part of the weekend, and e we had a little snow mixed with power outages, cars off the roads   and rolling blackouts… a first in the history of Tennessee. We did not get a notice from our electric company so it was a surprise when the power went out in 15-minute increments four different times early Friday morning. About the time I’d find the flashlight and light a candle or two the power would pop back on and I’d walk around resetting every clock we have. Nashville is not prepared for sub-zero and the power grid here was not capable of the high demand from folks who were cranking up their heaters. I’m not political but,
